  1. Being a dominant and loud personality and pushing your way to the front every time, does not equate to being a good leader. I'll back the captains to put him in his place if they feel they need to.
  2. What if Morton requires / wants more personal attention & feedback than can be provided? The coaches aren't fitness trainers. The fitness guys (Misson's team) have to spread themselves over a list of 45. I don't think it's terribly unreasonable. Btw, I recall an article about Tom Rockliff spending the majority of his offseason in St Kilda training at a gym to reach a new level of fitness prior to his breakout season. Cale's brother Mitch spent weeks in Thailand at a kick boxing camp to seriously boost his fitness levels. These sorts of things are not unheard of.
  3. Just an honest appraisal. Not a close mate, as I said. Poor bloke? He's not a bad person, and we all have faults. As much as I love the guy, the club comes first.
  4. Burnt by the Hun and a boring Geelong article predicated on a soundbite.
  5. Unfortunately, I'm often at work, but I fail to see the point. "contradictarian"? Really? Re: Moloney, I'm fortunate enough to know Moloney personally (I wouldn't claim exceptionally well), and while I love the guy, I love the club more, and that comes first. Beamdoggy is very boisterous and gung-ho, but I question his judgment a lot of the time, and wouldn't be too quick to follow him, as he'd probably lead me into a foxhole. I see him as a follower, who is desperately trying to be a leader, cos being the captain is so appealing to a bloke like him. All the best intentions and desire in the world won't make the difference, if you lack the necessary skills. Unfortunately he's not a great leader, and I'm sorry, but we can't have a captain who leaves something to be desired in terms of intelligence. Harsh but true.
  6. I'm of the same opinion as your brother, but you've swayed me with logic. Ink Bartram in for the back pocket.
  7. Oh, wait... I forgot - he bleeds red & blue.
  8. What makes anyone think Moloney is a good leader? Player, yes, leader, no.
  9. Great photos trenners_09. Will be very appreciative any time you manage to get down to training, considering the quality of your photos.
  10. Trengove was still guaranteed to be the youngest ever captain when he finally captains a game in round 1 (assuming injury or suspension don't get in the way...)
  11. So so sooo misguided. If the deposed players start in-fighting, it will only prove they were never fit for the position in the first place. Rivers - never saw himself as a leader, and is an inferior leader to Garland. Green - worst captain we've had in a long time. Harsh but true. Davey - that's simply not leadership flash. Moloney - covered above. Bartram's Ocean Grove and Barwon heads connection? Really?? Maybe you don't realise that there's actually a fierce rivalry between the 2..? Also, it removes the temptation for the young leaders to defer to their older counterparts. A change was needed, and by god did we get it. And more than anything, it should be remembered that there is no shame in not being a good leader. Plenty of people aren't. It doesn't make any of the players bad people or players, or even that they have a bad character. Just not one conducive to leadership. They simply are not the best leaders we have on the list, and this is an elite level sport. We must have elite leadership.
  12. Really? Moloney who valued the vice captaincy so highly that he went out & got smashed the night after a match? Right decision. Maybe one day people will learn there is a lot more to leadership than being vocal. And the leadership groud is about the best leaders, not the best players. He's simply not a great leader.

    AGM

I'm shocked some supporters seem to be disappointed there was no sponsorship announcement... When has a club ever announced a major sponsor at the AGM??
  14. The RFA window is a way overvalued concept already
  15. I'm all in favour of trading 1 compo pick plus change for Jack Martin. That'd be best case scenario for us, I think.
  16. Kids say it a lot. It's nothing out of ordinary for a teenager.
  17. My opinion = FACT. He's a kid who made a handful of mistakes in a training drill, when it sounds like he was made the main person responsible for delivering the ball out the backline. There's a reason he was chosen for this role, and being "piggy in the middle" gives him more opportunities to make mistakes than anyone else. In this situation, I can forgive him for making a few errors. That's the whole point of training, really.
  18. It's an oxymoron. He can only prove you wrong if you already judged him... but you're saying you will reserve judgment. Anyway, just a quirk I noticed.
  19. How can he prove you wrong, if you're giving him the upcoming season before passing judgment..?
  20. Yeah, thanks for that Steve. This thread was in danger of becoming a Cale Morton love-fest... Of biblical proportions (cos everything was big in the BIBLE). Or even worse - we could've stayed on topic. thanks for the training reports guys.
  21. If we drafted him, there probably would also have been threads about how rubbish he is after not doing much in his 1st season on the list...
  22. Fyfe too, has filled out considerably. I wouldn't compare Morton to either of them. Cam Bruce would be the best comparison.
  23. Not at all - it's been my contention all along. Maybe the problem is with your comprehension..? Not in any way related to Grimes as captain. Plus I believe his past injury history has no real bearing upon injuries he may suffer in the future, unless you can point to evidence of a particular chronic injury that has caused him to miss games. I've said it before, but the concept of a player being "injury-prone" is a simple concept for simple people. Finally- trying to equate Grimes' injuries to Jimmy's condition is not just a stretch, it's pretty weak and misguided, IMO.
  24. Darling and Luke Parker would have been a nice haul, or even Josh Green if he didn't go a pick before Howe. In the end, I'm happier with who we got.
