Yes, and that is how it was perceived (by some) at the time Which is what I've been saying. Maybe people have just forgotten but at the same time (2020) there was another thread about Goodwin (Heavy heart et al) and many were welcoming the addition of Yze upstairs with Goodwin on the bench The supporters here wanted change and in the poll on Goodwin about 85% wanted him sacked around the Sept 20 mark. And that is the truth So I wasn't the only one seeing Goodwin on the bench as a demotion. I just can't be bothered trying to find the appropriate threads back then

Any player of any value except a number of youngsters including Langford, Lindsay & Windsor etc Obviously not Gawn, Kozzie and probably May but anyone else? If the right offer came along for most of the others, the club should look at it And there's at least a dozen NQR's clogging up the list. Many are contracted but some clubs might want them There's a merry-go-round of fringe players that end up at other clubs and that won't change. We've got a number of candidates

The game changed and super-fast ball movement along with precision skills is now required We haven't got a list that can play that style Thus, we need to overhaul the list. It's happened quickly too in the space of a few years So whilst we stuck to what we knew for too long, the game has passed us by I don't watch a lot of footy these days but I've caught a few Bulldogs games. They can be lightning quick and Lord knows how we're going to be able to keep up with them Huge off-season coming up but we'll be playing catch-up regardless of who is involved with the FD

We don't have to overhaul the list But in my view, we do need to overhaul the list. Need speed, skills, marking ability up forward and we need to trade out the deadwood We need picks to get back into the draft as we also need more new young talent We probably need 2 key forwards but trying to even get hold of 1 KPF is a task. We need another goal-kicking small forward who can be relied upon The midfield needs a shake up as the old brigade is stale with poor kicking skills And from an overall perspective we have far too many underperformers on the list. Depth is poor as well The ladder doesn't lie ... we are 6 & 13 this year and 7 & 18 from our last 25 games If we had a decent list we'd be winning a lot more games. The list isn't suddenly going to become a winning list without an injection of real talent Forget about what should be, that ship has sailed

There's a fair chance that the first decision made by Smith, Guerra and the Board is whether Goodwin stays or goes. Welcome to the MFC and should we sack the coach? How's that for an opening gambit? Any decision should be made in the off-season as it's only a month away. Right now would be a poor look and reflect badly on the club But if we want to overhaul the list then Goodwin has to be on board with that direction

Fringe players? I don't see much talent there and there's about 6-8 in the Seniors who are VFL standard as well But I agree that Goodwin has been too loyal to the (so-called) senior players ... but that doesn't give the players an out as they've decided to check out The premiership went to their heads and it didn't help when the club (not Goodwin) decided to offer them long term juicy contracts Chances are we're going to be stuck with a bunch of lame ducks

Just to clarify At the end of 2020 there was enormous pressure on Goodwin to be sacked And we now know that 2 MFC board members met with the AFL to find a way to pay Goodwin out Up until then Goodwin had coached from upstairs calling all the shots So when we went into the 2021 season suddenly Goodwin was coaching from the bench and the newly appointed Adem Yze was upstairs calling the shots and making moves If that's not a demotion I'll go he Now, Dizzle will probably call me a liar again but the above did actually happen Was it broadcast to the World? No. But it did happen

I've mentioned this before on this thread but we looked to have started a rebuild (of sorts) in the 2023 off season and then last year Regardless of the outcomes, moving up to get 2 first round picks in both drafts was an aggressive move So let's hope it pays off But right now, I believe we need to take some short term pain and hit the trade table hard Previously, I mentioned that we could end up with a swathe of picks but we also need some quality experienced, switched on players with pace & skills Not easily attained but if the FD are honest about where they see the list, we need to be pro-active in changing the make-up of the list before Tassie come in to the draft My doubts surround where the FD sees the list and also, our ability to be able to offload players in trades For instance, a player on a long term contract (on good coin) is not easily traded if their form is bog average. We don't want a fire-sale situation
