  1. Sorry to sound picky, but it's Morabito...
  2. QUOTE (DemonDan... @ Aug 29 2009, 02:33 AM) This guy is way ahead of Trengove at the moment and Scully in a lot of ways too. I agree with just about everything you say except the above. They are all very different types of players and Morabito is not ahead of Trengove who is also making his mark against men. I'd be happy with either Trengove or Morabito. I probably just lean to Trengove for the following reasons: reliability, hardness, and leadership qualities. Those that question Morabito's kicking really over state it and don't appreciate the qualities that he does have. I reckon he'll be a star.
  3. Incorrect. Viney decided to move back to Adelaide for Family reasons and his position at the AFC is subsequent to that decision. I believe that he wanted his kids in Adelaide for their final school years.
  4. I'd really love a good out of contract player to want to come to Melb via the PSD. With more retirements we should have plenty of cap room and hopefully prospective recruits can see the blue sky at the MFC.
  5. I would have thought that there are no guarantees with anything, so, assuming that I'm talking to fellow posters that don't need the bleeding obvious stated, I posted my opinion accordingly. It's an opinion based on seeing a player live and is expected to be judged on being an opinion, because clearly there's nothing else to go on, ergo "big call". Have you seen him live ? I thought not.
  6. Exactly, and one that's no certainty to be a gun at AFL level. And on a probability scale there are too many queries.
  7. Too much of a risk. Pick 2 is pure gold and I don't want to risk it on a player that "at worst will be a good ruckman". At worst Trengove will be a 200 game A grade mid. There's time to draft/recruit a marking tall forward over the next few years. This club can't afford to keep drafting for 5 years down the track on 'potentially' good key forwards. We need to start winning in the midfield. And before anyone mentions Watts, he was a one off talent imo who had to be taken. Jolly, Sandilands, Cox, Brogan = Rookie draft ruckman. We wont pick Butcher at 2. There are too many question marks.

Things aren't always as they seem. I'm not sure that his absence is form related.

I knew people would knock Salopek because he's been out of the Port side. He is a very very good player. I don't know what's going on at Port, but it's not a happy place at present. A former Premiership player who works in the media told Tony Shaw that only 3 or 4 current players wanted to play under Williams.
  10. I prefer this youtube of Scully from last year's TAC GF. As others have said, you really need to see a player live to appreciate their attributes. Scully broke his nose in the first minute of play. He couldn't breathe properly with congealed blood and had watery eyes, but went on to gather 29 disposals, even with a heavy tag. His kicking is good on either side, but it's his clearance work and hands that set him apart. His hands are phenomenal and he just keeps getting to contest after contest. He also has excellent pace. He'll be a star.
  11. Good man.
  12. I'm the Father.
  13. Have you seen 'Jenny' play ?

    Bye Mark.
  15. 2013 would be the absolute earliest imo, but more likley our window will be 2014-2018. Geelong won the 2008 flag on the back of draft years 1999-2001; Brisbane assembled their dynasty of 2001-04 from '93 onwards; and if the Saints win it this year it will be because of the 2000-2002 drafts. West Coast won in 06 - Judd's 5th year and Hawthorn were an abberation. When Melbourne win a flag it will be on the back of the 2007-09 drafts. I expect 7-9 victories next year; Finals in 2011/12; a prelim/GF in 2013; and a flag/s in the 2014-18 window.
  16. Not at all, but some realise that he gets burnt on the lead due to a lack of pace, some realise that he can't play on smalls, some realise that he's not the right matchup for the big forwards and some realise that we have players to cover his absence in Warnock, Garland, Frawley, Martin and possibly MacNamara. Any club would do Rivers > Boak in a heartbeat, but as Dr Jekyl asserts, we'd be laughed out the door.
  17. Russell was told that Channel 9 cameras were spotted at Dees training and the speculation was that it was to see Robertson address his teammates to announce his retirement. Nothing confirmed. I hope he retires. PS: you have an excited way of posting.
  18. Clearly we disagree. In fact Rivers isn't in my preferred team for 2012. He's just not quick or athletic enough. Yes, he reads the play well, but I prefer Warnock on the bigger bodied forwards, Garland who's fast and can play tall and small, plus the 195cm Frawley. There's backup with Martin and MacNamara if need be and I have the strong marking Green on one flank and the laser like kick Strauss on the other. Bennell takes a small. Very happy to move Rivers on for a quality draft pick. Unfortunately his currency in the market may not be great despite his somewhat injury free year. He's a good player, but I'm far from wedded to him. You're a fan - fair enough.
  19. I'd trade Rivers for the right deal. As I would have last year and the year before.
  20. They wouldn't do Dangerfield for pick 2, let alone hand over "11".
  21. Todd Viney's Son Jack, Steven Stretch's Son, and apparently Grinter's Son is OK. The first two are highly rated. I'm not completely sure when they're available, but I think Jack Viney would be in the 2012 draft.
  22. Derren Brown.
  23. The team I like: B. Bennell / Warnock / Garland HB. Strauss / Frawley / Green C. Blease / Trengove / Morton HF. Sylvia / Watts / Davey F. Wonaeamirri / Jurrah / Bate R. Meesen* / Grimes / Scully I/C Martin / Moloney / Maric / Jones * I've got no idea who'll be ruck. ** There'll be at least half dozen changes to this team as that's just the evolution of footy sides. *** We'll probably be one big body in the forward line short, but Martin is still an unknown quantity. There are 14 top 21 picks in that team and we need a similar number of players to become A graders to win a flag. It's a very solid foundation.
  24. Grimes was recruited as a mid and will end up there. Strauss has played back flank and midfield in his junior days.
