  1. How he made it on to the list shouldn't have any bearing on his value as a player 2 years later. And yes, he was the youngest bottom age player drafted that year. That said, I'm not sure there's a long-term spot for him. But I reckon he'll be kept for one more year.
  2. Burgoyne has put all talks on hold until his knee is further assessed, but Rucci has apparently reported that if he comes to Victoria Hawthorn are believed to be his preffered destination.
  3. He does, but interestingly he kicked 19.8 this year and was a very steady set shot. He's a relatively poor kick, but they nearly always seemed to go through. Where I stand in the MCC we often commented on it.
  4. My Father, a Hawthorn supporter, but MCC member who saw many Melb games says that Spencer was one of the best rovers he's seen and in the top few Melb players he's seen. He retired early, but I'd say there's little doubt that he or LaFontaine are the best rovers this club has produced.
  5. You're naive. Visy have 11 AFL ambassadors. Coincidentally all of their ambassadors just happen to play football with Carlton. Any payment they receive for their "work" is outside of Carlton's salary cap. The AFL has ruled all of this as being legitimate. It really makes you wonder wtf the AFL is doing.
  6. I think you and Nasher are about the only two here with whom I agree. Twilight is 30 in my view. The guy is right in his prime and we'd yield 60-80 good games from him. I'd do everything in my power to get him. He's the sort of player that could make the difference between 8 wins and 11 wins in 2010. Btw, I first heard that Andrew McLeod's knees were 'bone on bone' 6 years ago. Needless to say I too am taking these allegations with a very big grain of salt. And if McLeod's knnes have been that bad it just shows how these things can be very effectively managed. Although no doubt there's a large degree of exaggeration when it comes to footy rumours.
  7. Jon Ralph said in the HS recently that they'd be targeting a mid. Morabito ? Of course he may be wrong and there may have been an assumption that we'd take Butcher. I can see Butcher in purple.
  8. I don't know. I'd probably try and package him up with a player/draft pick swap.
  9. What are you offering ?
  10. I'd trade him, but doubt we'd get much for him.
  11. We wouldn't get pick 9 for Rivers. Btw, who else thought he squibbed it on the members wing on Sunday ? Not a big deal as he usualy "goes", but it was pretty poor.
  12. We need to start winning games. I could write a page on developing the list, but at the end of the day we've got to start getting some wins. 7-9 next year. Finals in 2011
  13. They didn't get votes because they only played 9 and 11 games. Those in the votes mostly played around 22. Beams played 16.
  14. I left TD after the Championships with my Brother and independently we both earmarked Scully, Trengove and Morabito as the 3 standout prospects. Later that evening I had other Melb supporters that weren't even at the game picking holes in Morabito. You're wasting your breath even trying to have a view on a player if you haven't seen them live. I started favouring Morabito, then swayed to Trengove as he may have been the safer bet at pick 2 and now I'm on the fence. I'd be happy with either. If Morabito becomes the player I reckon he will then I'd take him. You win Grand Finals with a player like that. I'll wait til after DC to make a final opinion. But Butcher won't be part of my plans. I'll be interested to see how Morabito goes in the new kicking test. I reckon his kicking is far better than suggested around here. But I want to see the results.
  15. Someone with a brain. What Richmond did has no bearing on a draft some years later. It's stating the obvious to say that there will be different players available, but it seems it needs to be said. The 2004 draft was virtually bereft of decent mids. Other than Deledio there is hardly a decent mid to come out of it, in fact other than a couple of guns it is a woeful draft. On the other hand this draft is a midfielders draft. I'd be happy for Butcher to join the MFC, but not at pick 2. There are too many queries about him as a player. I want an out and out deadset gun at pick 2 and whilst there are no guarantees with whomever we choose there are too many doubts for me that Butcher is a sure fire thing. Trengove or Morabito for me. I'd be happy with either. The groupthink doubts on Morabito's kicking is significantly over stated and usually peddled by people that haven't seen him play. I'm very bullish on Morabito as he's born for the modern game. He's a 190cm fast bull with X factor that will rip some games apart in the space of 10 minutes. He has the hallmarks of a star, imo.
  16. And he was also no good at footy.
  17. Exactly. I can't separate Trengove and Morabito. The latter is severely undervalued on here.
  18. I just gave some basic examples. I could have mentioned Simon Black who cried when drafted to Brisbane, but never went back to WA. Or Victorians Luke Power who stayed. Or Victorian, Leppitsch. Or the Victorian, Scott Brothers. Or Lappin. I could go on and on and on and on and on. But you'd probably highlight Des headland, who was the only one to leave. Nearly all players want to be one club players. The go home factor virtually never concerns me. And it certainly doesn't with Trengove.
  19. West Coast now have pick 7 and Sydney pick 6.
  20. If the Moderators had any sense of humour or irony they should do it. The guy is a legend and I'll never forget his contribution to the MFC. The "Jordie McMahon Drafting and Trading Board" It's a must.
  21. I never really understand such a pessimistic stance. We've had Rivers, Walsh, Brown, Bell, Ingerson, and countless other South Australians that have never wanted to go home, but some supporters still get spooked over the 'go home' factor. We even had Darren Kowal who we wanted to ship home to WA and still couldn't get rid of him. An ex-Board member told me that Scott Thompson only went home because he couldn't stand Daniher. Make of that what you will. Also, it's not easy to get back to SA. They're rarely at the bottom of the ladder, so if you refuse to trade them what are they going to do ? Pavlich is from SA and at the biggest basket case club in the AFL and thus far he's remained with the club that drafted him. I have no concerns over the go home factor when it comes to Trengove. None.
  22. You're a pretty negative or 'naturally concerned' type of bloke. I've been tracking young Viney since he was about 11. You can go to the Ashburton Football Club and see his continuous Best & Fairest wins on their honour board. His ex coaches have said how good he is for years. Will he become a good AFL player ? Who knows, but he's better skilled than his Father and tough. Lord knows, it's about time we had a decent F/S. He's 172cms, but not yet 15 and a half. My guess is he'll end up around the 182-184cm mark which is fine. Anyway, I'll assume that he's going to be a gun until it's proven otherwise, and you can have your inbuilt, naturally cautious, and slightly concerned alternative view.
  23. I rate Morabito the equal of Trengove. Have you seen either play ?
