Big talent and after 35 games, made me realise how raw he still is. I think some supporters have some unreasonable expectations on "The Cougar". He is not a KPF and we will see more from him once he has some bigger KPF taking the number 1 & 2 defenders. A lot of defences would struggle to match up on LJ as the 3rd forward

My Coaching strategy for 2012 and beyond
Pennant St Dee replied to Jack7's topic in Melbourne Demons
No way as part of us becoming a strong club, we no longer compromise. The Geelong loss was rock bottom and the sacking of Bailey was the line in the sand. I don't care who Mick is but the sub committee need to make the statement, that Mick you are either with us in 2012 or never -
Once again we are speculating. The club has made him an offer and that is the end of it, no more will be offered to him. We do not know exactly what the offer is what clauses are in it for bonuses relating to on field performance, B&F, AA, Chas etc. I don't believe they would risk long term jeopardy of club or list to keep Scully and furthermore we really don't know what he is thinking or if he is driven by money alone. Please whatever the decision is either way can we ban all threads to do with him from either the he's going or he's staying telling the other "I told you do so". The morning after the decision is made the sun will come up MFC will still be here with a future and a new coach on the Horizon

Does anyone recall how maligned the Hawks were for taking Hodge at Number 1. He spent most of his first 2 seasons on the sidelines. I think he has proved a lot of people wrong although you were never going to go wrong with any of the first 3 (Hodge, Ball & Judd) from 2001. I think the Top 3 from the 2009 draft will all be good players would be nice if Trengove & Scully followed these 3 as Premiership players Scully showed enough last year to suggest he will be able to burn off heavy tags and run them into the ground the longer the game goes on(similar to Cousins) and he also has the quick hands to deal with close attention

Strong rumour I have heard around footy circles here in the west that Andrew Gaff is not happy in WA and desperatley wants to go home. Whilst we here rumours all the time just 5 minutes ago was the first I had heard it reported on radio that 2 Melbourne Clubs are aware of the developments and the topic will grow legs further at seasons end. Not the exact type we need but apart from his good form for West Coast I have seen this kid play WAFL and he is a gun, makes the right decisions, plays the percentages, gut runs and his use of the ball is excellent. I have said on Demonland before the Eagles are very hard to deal with at trade time and if Dees are considering Gaff, they will have to give up something for him as he has another year left on his contract
-
Richo just said it was in a sling as precaution and his season was probably over as Dees wont bother risking him in the last game

You are a glass half empty type aren't you!

Where have all the negative posts gone, the obvious is they are trying something new the vacuum or whatver Viney calls it when kicking out from back. But lets just change this thread from gameday to f%#kin whinge. Any chance of looking at the positives, love the look of Blease, Mcdonald looks all right, also like Jetta he has a hardness about him and just needs some consistent game time into him, Tappy looks better on forward line. Some of you need to review tapes of West Coast last season

I think your arguement suggests we have a poor attitude, we have had everything to play for up until last week as finals was always there for us. I was at the game last night and it was intriguing to watch. Collingwood as much as I hate to say it were awesome. They are big bodies and continually either break tackles or stand tackles and free their arms to dish off handballs. They all play to the structure and 99% of the time they play the percentages, rather than doing the flashy thing. Fremantle are not short on schillachos and pay a fair amount of them on their football department, so it's not just a Collingwood thing with the money, but we have good facilities now and I think with the new sponsorship deal and off field stability we will start seeing more money spent in this area. I have said for a while we have talent just need to see our younger boys develop. The Collingwood, Geelong, Eagles and Hawks kids are no better than ours we just have more and we are not surrounded with quality mature bigger bodies

Malthouse won't be at Collingwood in 2012
Pennant St Dee replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
I recall listening to 6PR Perth in 1999 when George GRJLUSICH and Karl LANGDON broke the news about a secret meeting Mick had with Eddie and he was going to be the Collingwood coach next year. Mick was in for his weekly segment and you could almost hear the steam coming out of his ears as he vehemently denied there was anything untoward with the meeting and as far as he was concerned he was contracted to coach West Coast in 2000 and that was the end of the issue. This all seems to be history repeating itself -

Mick also had a contract to coach West Coast in 2000, Bomber Thompson had a contract to coach the Cats in 2011. Talk will change after the pies season is finished -

Pennant St Dee replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
If and still a big If Malthouse comes it will be interesting to see what happens with the list. I don't think Mick will stick by players no matter how good they are the way Danners and Bailey did. Talent is one thing but you must fit in to Micks structure. Someone honest, defensive minded without to many tricks like Warnock could fit in with Micks plans somewhere. Others to on the list not getting much of a look in could all of a sudden play a big part under Mick, while others who have got regular games may be told conform or there's the door. Will be interesting but it is all speculation till we know who we have -
Jeysus that is a young side, what is the average age of that side. Will be watching with interest this week seeing the AFL's two youngest sides going head to head.

With you absolutley 100% here you are either with us next year or not, This club has to be on the front foot in picking the new coach and moving forward reviewing the list as of final siren round 24. Personally don't care if we get Mick or Lyon just want someone who has players who give everything for them and defend well in every part of the ground, our young defence is going places just needs the right coach. I also believe the selection committee will be well informed now from either Malthouse,Lyon or their managers as to whether they are going to coach elsewhere in 2012, so it's just a matter of if it's Yes decide between the 2 but if its no, pick next best available coach, if it's Viney it can't be only for 2012 it has to be for the long haul -
ENERGY WATCH = $6 Million sponsorship
Pennant St Dee replied to Chicken Deelicious's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think it's fantastic news, well done to those involved. Everyone in the media wants to talk of a crisis at the club and have we improved since 2007. It's a beat up we have cleared debt, membership is up, we have moved from the Junction Oval to state of the art facilities and now record sponsorship deal. The board has brought a lot of stability to the club, looking ahead with a positive perspective new coach and new ideas taking our talented list to where they should be heading. Go Dees! -
Are you going to attend our last home game
Pennant St Dee replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
+ 1 All the above seems to get lost on sow many supporters, who think after the turnover of our list a switch can just be flicked. -
Wish List while I am still alive and kicking Have Children - Done Run a Marathon - Done Complete an Ironman - Done See the Dees win a Premiership - While I still breath and the club is around there is always HOPE!
-
+1 Puts it into perspective winning football is good football
-
He's clearly injured and as of the end of last week finals are not even mathmatically possible. So time for a rest we gain nothing either way by playing him injured. MHO is he will stay
-
Well lets hope we are both proved wrong and Wonna comes back pre season trim and full of desire, plays to his potential and becomes a key crumbing forward in a regular Top 4 contender and hopefully greater things
-
Rhino forget what you may have read on Wickepedia or in the press the incident you are referring to was the final straw in a long list of off field transgressions, incidents and problems he was having, most of which were kept from the media. After this incident WCE and Sampi sought treatment for a condition he actually had no control over. It was a cry for help. To my knowledge he is the better for the help he has received
-
I agree with you on this, I never said we should keep him on the list, I beleive for his personal and injury matters he has not been able to get back onto the park, but on each occassion he has returned out of condition. I would de list him and tell him if he proves he wants it. If he is committed we will see how he comes back pre season as proof and see how he trains over the pre season before offering him a final spot on the rookie list
-
Not unfair analogy in my opinion depending upon what way you perceive it, let me put it this way both very talented forwards who can turn a game. both had bad run with injuries both had to deal with situations off the field which they had no control over both talk about wanting to play AFL Finals -SAMPI was on the ground in 2006 shared the moment with the Eagles and said this only made him more determined to comeback and share in future success. Wonna said 2 weeks ago he wanted to comeback and play well for Casey and try and break into the Dees side should they make finals. What my inference with committment was it is all very well saying something and what you wish to happen but there is a big committment required to make these things happen. Other matters may prevent you realising your potential, not having gone through what either of these two have had to endure nor wishing to I don't fully understand their mindset, but if you are committed why turn up to training pre season so badly out of condition and overweight that you are behind the 8ball. So in closing I will say Sampi's talents have been lost to the game without him reaching the obvious potential he had and I believe Wonna may suffer the same fate.
