  1. What the hell do you think you're doing pm24? There's no room on here for people who go about scurrilously making sense in the face of all the clear-thinking naysayers. Be off with you and don't you dare try to enlighten these dull surrounds with that sort of intelligent analysis ever again. It won't be tolerated. Mods - do something about this upstart.
  2. No, Morton hurt his shoulder trying to tag him.
  3. No, we're as bad as it gets. That's why I'm optimistic. We can only get better. It's all just a matter of perception really. I'm choosing to see things in a particular way because to go down the alternative path is far too distressing. I'd rather be delusionally happy than realistically depressed. GO DEES! 84 point victory on Sunday. Dawes kicks 6. Tapscott flattens Ablett at first bounce. Howe takes a screamer standing on top of the right-hand goal post at the Punt Road end. Jack Viney collects 39 possessions to trail Nathan Jones' 47. Aaron Davey comes off the bench as sub and kicks five in the last quarter. Chip Frawley dominates the back 50 and kick two goals. Will I be disappointed if this doesn't happen? No, because we'll still win by 28 at worst. GO DEES! If it all goes pear-shaped and we lose, I'll find something to give me solace. Probably several Cragganmores.
  4. We could be this guy!
  5. Pushing up Daisy's what? He may be well be a part of our future so I wouldn't be pushing anything up him. C'mon OD, whatever happens we are still better off than some. Not sure who but there must be others out there worse off than us!
  6. But if people have stopped believing in the brand it's time to build a new one. If something is rotten at the core you can't just keep trying to sell it, you've got to make changes to win back confidence in the future. There are plenty of examples of this happening in the business world. You would have to agree that the short-term view can be dangerous because it tends to restrict an organisation’s vision for the future? It’s an obvious truth that all businesses are in it to make money but if they want to ensure long-term growth and to be winning new customers they can’t simply focus on short-term goals.
  7. You seem to be comparing the MFC to your business situation. Was your business in dire straits? Was it dysfunctional at many levels? Did it need a complete overhaul? These are the circumstances in which Neeld was employed. I think the comparison fails because the board decided that we needed to endure some pain in order to change direction. They took a calculated risk and are prepared for some people to jump ship. Hence McLardy's comments about fair-weather supporters. They understand that the changes under Neeld will not be popular but they are prepared to weather the storm. Is this at all like the situation you're speaking of?
  8. So how and why is this relevant? Neeld was employed to do a job. He was not employed to continue the culture of adapting his processes to suit the demands of existing personnel. His brief was to shake things up and implement change. It's what the board wanted. It's what the club needed.
  9. Just once, I'd like someone to support the claim that the players are discontented with Neeld with some evidence rather than speculation and perception.
  10. Hannath was drafted at No 8. Who would you have not recruited? Jack Viney?
  11. I haven't heard too many excuses - just statements of fact and a refusal to buy into the unrealistic expectations that some on this forum seem to have. Neeld has been very clear about where we are at and doesn't make excuses. Yes we are crap at the moment. No it's not much fun to watch. Yes it's frustrating. The point is that over the last three weeks there have been signs of improvement in intensity and general commitment to the task. The guys tried their hearts out against Carlton but were beaten by a more experienced, mature and talented side. Did you honestly think we could win that game without a key forward and without experienced midfield runners? I'm convinced at this stage that we are closer to finals. This time last year we were still be waiting for our first win. We're currently in a position to win a second for the year. Every week brings us closer to finals but it just wont be to be this year. Patience RobbieF. Good things come to those who wait.
  12. Like sacking coaches? I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure you are wrong on every point you've made. I just can't be bothered reading it all again to make sure. If I can just make one point that is at the heart of this whole debate, and I'm not sure how many times it needs to be made but let's do it one more time. Neeld was appointed to change the culture of the club and set us up for future success. Unfortunately that means we will suffer some pain for a short while until everything is in place. It just can't be done overnight. If, at the end of his three year contract, there are no signs of improvement I will be happy to lead the march to have him removed but until then let's get off his back and let him do the job he has been given.
  13. And that's the whole point. We are trying to build a culture that will put us in that position. Yes things have been pitiful in the past and don't look much brighter now, but we need to go through this pain if we are ever going to be any good. Hopefully in ten years time, we will be able to hold our heads high and point to the strong culture of success that has been born from this excruciating period. As an aside, I think the way the game is played now makes blowout losses for bottom sides a little more likely than in the past.
  14. If nothing else yesterday's performance should put to rest the Neeld critics who argue he has lost the players. We witnessed our boys putting their heads over the ball time and time again; evidenced by the free kick count. The boys were working for each other as best they could and certainly not looking like a team who weren't playing for their coach. Despite the result, we had a crack and showed some heart. Small steps but at least in the right direction.
  15. I'm intrigued about the evidence to support this claim. I'm not saying you're wrong but I just wonder why people are saying this.
  16. Must be dark in that sad world you inhabit.
  17. Would that be the game plan that gives us 81/2 wins? The last thing we needed was a coach who was going to let the players dictate the sort of game they wanted to play and by extension dictate how hard they were prepared to train. Yeah that's just what we needed. The clean out has begun. there will be more at the end of this year. We will end up with a list that wants to do more than just be AFL footballers. We will have one that wants to play finals and that wants to bleed for the club. It will take some time but it will happen. Go Dees.
  18. How do you know this? Do you have inside information? Is it reliable? Or is this your perception dressed up as fact?
  19. I'm not bagging Jack Watts. I think he's going to make it at the elite level. He's just not there yet. All I've done is highlight an instance where he made a poor choice. Some parts of his game were quite good and I guess in time he'll become more confident in using his body appropriately. I see him in the mould of Brendan Goddard and believe he will achieve a standard we'll all be proud of. He could do worse than watch how Goddard goes about it.
  20. We must have been sitting in the same area. I don't think he shirked the contest but he made a poor choice. He took his eyes off the ball and went at the opponent to bump him. He should have attacked the ball and taken the hit with the ball in his possession. This would have provided a better outcome for the team. More chance of getting the free and less chance of the ball being taken away from the contest. JW's not going to hurt anybody with a bump, at least not with the lack of ferocity he showed in this instance, but could have hurt the opposition with a clean disposal or a resultant free kick.
  21. For 34 minutes this afternoon, this is what I saw. Maybe Neeld does have the players on board. It's still going to be a long road with more pain to come, but, maybe, just maybe...
  22. It's all hypothetical isn't it? Why do we think Ross Lyon would have been able to do any better with the list we have? He didn't exactly build any ongoing success at the saints. Remind me, did he win a flag? No? Why would he be likely to do better with us?
  23. Let's storm the ramparts and tear down the flag. Let's behead the bastards who've ruined our club! I'm with you Tonatopia - bring on the revolution. Oh, hang on, just explain how this will help. Are you nominating for president? On second thoughts, count me out. I'll just try the common sense approach and have a little patience
