Cheers for the list, the stats of 20-30 games as a 24-25 yr old doesn't quite stand out as worthy of pick2 in my eyes... I would have thought 20-30 games and 21-22 yrs of age might be more interesting. Looking at those players, I don't see any players worthy of pick 2 unless we get some good change as well... (Note I do rate Zorko and Rampe as players... but I don't think they are worthy of pick 2)

yeah I know this is a rumours thread, but seriously when is the last time two clubs traded that much between them in a single trade. Besides Adams doesn't want a bar of us (basically confirmed by Mahoney), why do people keep bringing him up?
-
Don't think that our decision to trade pick 2 is any reflection on Aish or whoever is available in the draft. It's more that we need established midfield talent and we have identified a player (or two) that suit our needs.

I'm really interested to see the impact of bringing Tippett and Franklin in (and their salaries being what they are.) has on the famed Bloods Culture! 2013 Salary cap is just over 9 million. Franklin and Tippett would be taking up close to 25% of the cap it seems... Whilst I have a grudging respect for how the Swans have been able to pull off the heists of Tippett and Franklin from the two expansion clubs and how they have managed to keep it so quiet, it is a terrible look for the AFL and their argument on the CoLA.

Ahh well, my hopes that O'Loughlin might have been a chance for our senior role seems to have been dashed. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-01/oloughlin-returns-to-swans?utm_medium=RSS

Misson said in one of his weekly updates before the season ended that Mitch was back and running again I believe, they just chose not to try and rush him back this season, and allow him to focus on the preseason, which they expect him to do a full preseason. He is going off to Arizona with Dawes, so I presume high altitude training is only useful if you can train, and possibly only if you can train at as near to 100% as is possible

Yup I agree, it's a massive risk, but I would love to see the club take the risk with someone like him as a rookie rather than players we have chosen in the past like Couch & Magner. I think players on the Rookie list should be speculative players, ones that have a mix of both elite/exceptional traits combined with some noticeable flaws...rather than spending it on players who are perhaps NQR that are unlikely to make the step from VFL to AFL...

Again, my initial comment above was that such a thing was high risk, and the welfare team @ the club is essential if it was to work. Josh Mahoney would be as pivotal as Roos in terms of ensuring that an environment that could assist and support Jurrah is provided for. The comment about Jurrah walking away from his issues is interesting, as I don't think Jurrah is living anywhere near Yuenmdumu is he? Last I heard is that he was playing local footy down @ Port Lincoln I think) It was also Jurrah that expressed that he wanted to see if he could make another go of things, all I am doing is saying it would be fantastic if he could do so, sure it's a long shot at best, but if it would be a great story if he was able to return to the AFL, and better if it happened to be with us.

Roos had a bit of success coaching Goodes and O'Loughlin both going on to play 300 games... (only 4 players have reached 300 games in AFL/VFL history) Can you think of an current AFL coach that would be better suited than Paul Roos? I think the isolated communities bit is the tough bit, and the reason why I clarified that we have a strong welfare team in place if we were to consider such a move. But to be fair there are very few coaches that have dealt with indigenous players from such remote locations, as very few players have come from communities such as Yuendumu.

My initial reaction is that its a terrible idea, however more I think on it, and presuming our football department's welfare team are up for the challenge I think it would be worthwhile risk, for sure it is a big risk, but thats sometimes what gives you the greater reward. The key here is playing down expectations, media hype and again ensuring that welfare team is strong enough to support Liam. Having Liam on the rookie list for me is better value than having players like Couch who was never a serious chance to be elevated to our senior list IMO. I would expect that he would be playing mostly at Casey, until not only was his fitness and body was at an acceptable standard, but more importantly it gives him (and the club) the opportunity to assess his state of mind whilst he is playing in a full time footballing environment, but not in the direct spotlight of the AFL. I seem to recall Josh Mahoney had a good relationship with Liam, and isnt' Davey still remaining part of the club in some form? and I am still holding out hope that Michael O'Loughlin might join our group as the senior assistant, not forgetting the experience and leadership that Roos and (presumably) Stone provides. A huge risk, but the AFL and our club need to be able to grab onto some good news stories for 2014, I think this could be one of them.

But just on this... then the media is as much to blame *yet again* for this mix up, as it was them stating that he was applying for the senior assistant role at MFC, not a line coach as suggested by UH.
-
Ahhh ok, Could be right.
-
Are you sure this is correct?? I thought Craig Kelly his manager was negotiating with St Kilda at the time, and was all but certain that Lyon would re-sign with the saints. Hence why Garry Lyon didn't push further when he asked CK whether there would be any chance of getting Ross to the MFC, and why the Saints were blindsided when the presser in Freo took place. Happy to be corrected though.

They have already given us a leg up with the 1.45mil and PJ. If it's not in their interest to give us a PP, why would they care about letting Dew have an interview.... I don't disagree with you as such, more that I think you are overestimating the interest that the AFL should/do have in this. Only thing further I'll say on this is that I agree with your comment that Colless has a double standard here. On one hand he says Roos is breaching a gentleman's agreement in talking to Lloyd Perris, on the other he doesn't seem to be upholding the gentleman's agreement in regards to allowing Dew to talk to us.
-
Because he has a contract with Sydney. A gentleman's agreement isnt' a binding agreement, and TBH why would the AFL give a damn about coaching contracts? Anyway, it's a non issue and not really on topic.
-
I don't follow your reasoning on why the AFL needs to get involved with anything to do with this. My understanding is that the gentleman's agreement (and the rules regarding poaching coaches prior to the end of season) is something that the AFL coaching association deals with, it's not the AFL. If Roos/PJ have backed away from talking to him after Sydney has claimed him as a required coach there isn't anything more to be done... he has a contract with them, and it's something that apparently they are looking to extend. If Dew feels like he is being hard done by he can always take it further. We have no clue whether Sydney were preparing to offer Dew an increased role @ their club, and at the moment (successor aside) the MFC are offering a senior assistant role.
-
Sorry I don't follow this at all, you are correct there is no agreement other than the gentleman's agreement that the club permits the coach to move elsewhere. However there is still a contract and Sydney is well within their rights to point that out to Dew that he is under contract, and they were planning on extending it anyway. Sure it's frustrating, but Roos and PJ don't seem to be pushing the issue further than it has gone, we just move on. If it's true that he made contact with us, and it wasn't the other way round, and no interview has taken place (as such a thing was blocked by Sydney) then the media's assertions that he was going to be annointed the successor is perhaps a little premature, he would have just been one of the candidates just like any of the others. Kinda similar to the 2.7mil bailout package that is infact only 1.45mil... yet another thing the media got wrong it seems.
-
Its a gentleman's agreement between clubs, the AFL isn't going to step in over this. Normally clubs allow coaches to go elsewhere when the position is a promotion. What we don't know from this whole thing is whether the Swans were intending to upgrade him to a higher role next year. We know they were thinking of extending his contract.
-
http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/oloughlins-coaching-call-20130824-2sigr.html Yup correct that they coached in the VFL. My comment about being a little left field was more that he hasn't really been mentioned as much as the other potential candidates. BTW I'd love to see Bassett come into consideration.
-
Maybe we just take Perris from their academy and George Stone for our development coach/academy Leave Dew alone perhaps !!
-
Thats what they were told on Footy Classified, but Caro mentioned that she heard Roos had made contact with him. Either way, its an interesting development that he is even being spoken of in the same sentence as Burns, Simpson, Tudor etc... Gut feeling that this Senior assistant could be a left field appointment that none of us see coming.
-
Caro just announced that Dew who is currently @ the swans was looking likely to be lined up as the senior assistant to Roos, But again Colless, and now John Longmire and Andrew Ireland not happy about it, ... apparently MFC going to back off. Interesting choice if it were true, and not something I saw coming!

Wow really? you think Shaw is worth a mid first round pick plus change? I'd be amazed if Shaw gets traded for much more than a late second rounder,... he is 28 years old, has had injuries over the journey, and isn't the most solid character. I do rate him as a player when fit though, but no way he is that good.
