Have we convinced Martin yet? I’m not a huge fan but I can see him being a staple if he comes on board. Martin Bennell Tomlinson Langdon All these guys are quite simply a massive injection of the outside speed and class that we have craved for so long! Why split any picks if you bag 4 players like this? Tell the other clubs to stick it and get some very good kids. I hope we’re backing ourselves to convince Martin to join us.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
McQueen replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
Perth is a fishbowl with only two teams - that’s for sure, but even in Melbourne Bennell will always be of particular interest to the frothing media given his checkered history. -

With all the noise from Journo’s a few days ago I would’ve expected confirmation by now. Gossage, Ralph, Stevens and the other less well-known tweeters had it all but over the line, a matter of formality. Where there’s smoke these blokes just assume there’s fire. -

And Ron’s been hitting the acid pretty hard. -

I think it’s fair to say his continued injuries exacerbated his poor off field choices which in-turn restricted his rehabilitation responsibilities. A viscous cycle no doubt. Like him, I can envisage a clean slate for him if this surgery works. -

Welcome to the party. There might be a few Melbourne bitter tins left lying around but they’re most likely warm. -

A lot of ‘spamming’ happening on these boards. Are there any mods about? -

Don’t have to travel interstate for a change to watch round 1. What’s not to like?

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
McQueen replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was many stubbies worse for wear PSD but I was sure he said he can do things not many others can. I may have mistaken that for X factor but there was no mistaken that he referred to him as being the best WA player in the draft. -
2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
McQueen replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
An update on some WA boys. Without starting another couple of threads about young prospects, I got a lift home from a party on Saturday night by Jake Pasini. I played some Masters footy with his Dad years ago and Jake would come down and train with us - a really nice kid. He couldn’t participate in the combine due to a shoulder but he did mention Melbourne interviewed him “twice” and in his modest opinion showed a “bit” of interest. He reckons he’ll go around the 40’s in the draft so unless we wheel and deal the hell out of lower picks I can’t see how we were really that interested in the first place - unless of course this was pre pick swaps with the Roos where he may have been in calcs. His good mate Riley Garcia who’s Dad is a mate of mine will probably end up at the Dogs going by how they interviewed him but a chance of the Suns they reckon. Jake also reckons that Deven Robertson will be the steal in this draft. Reckons as far as X factor goes, he’s the one. -
I prefer him on the full forward line. He’s an accurate set shot kick based on the small sample we have, has speed and agility for dynamic leading patterns and clearly can really jump for the ball - kneeing oppo defenders in the head rather than his teammates if he was a defender who doesn’t..... have the game sense in my opinion. His chase down pressure is great but his reading of the downfield play is lacking. Has been guilty of ruining a fair contest in defence and causing a turnover due to poor decision making. Kicking on the run is also questionable at AFL level which again sways me in the favour of playing deep forward. I like him. Has X factor that is not yet fully realised nor harnessed. Let him jump on heads and kicks goals.

Didn’t mean to single you out mate. Cheers

There’s a separate Murray thread available. I’m here to read about Martin, hardtack.

Tha fact that Carlton only offered up chump change draft picks at trade should be ringing alarm bells for you Mr Martin. They don’t rate you much.
-
Average player with no elite traits. He will not be the difference between Carlton being a better team than MFC next year. If we land him, great. But really posters pumping him up to be the next GAJ need to take a cold shower.

Check your PM’s. ??

Interesting, I was thinking along the same lines. Has his development been stifled at GCS? Can he become the class player he was drafted as? If so, ~$700K would be very easy to stomach.
-
The sweet irony is that if we were in Carlton and Martin’s side of the court and another club were looking to screw us with a pick before ours in the PSD, this forum would be completely enraged. I don’t mind either way if we get him or not but I do like the idea of causing a few waves.
-
Of course. Didn’t think that thru too clearly. Cheers

AFL site claiming Carlton have pick 3 in the PSD?? Third last paragraph. http://Carlton has missed landing Sydney's Tom Papley and Gold Coast's Jack Martin on a frantic final day of trading

I get that a free hit seems appealing but I tend to think he’s a bit too vanilla and the gushing is a bit too OTT.
