  1. HAS THE 2020 RED MIST REARED ITS UGLY HEAD AGAIN!? Gazza spoke about this issue three years ago when we were having trouble finishing our work off coming inside 50 and / or missing opportunities to connect in general as we transistion the ball out of D50... https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-2020-melbourne-problems-analysis-demons-on-the-couch-garry-lyon-red-mist-bad-kicking-playing-too-fast/news-story/8350ba20fe8a6cdc618b51cae33c412f For the last two seasons i've watched a number of our players completely ignore an open/ better option as they come out of D50 or approach our 50. It's the usual culprits and the ones i've noticed who are regular offenders (i'm sure they're not alone) are... Tracc, Clarry, Lingers, Chandler & Rivers. To a lessor extent Viney, Hunter & Gus. They sometimes lower their vision and spot an option, then attempt to kick on 45s occasionaly but it's just that they aren't necessarily very good at it and often miss the target that will sometimes result in a slingshot turnover. Sometimes Viney, Hunter & Tracc will hit targets so not all their efforts are a dead loss. I'm sure Gus & Clarry also connect on odd occasions but i doubt their numbers would be all that great comparatively speaking. Tracc & Clarry our two biggest serial offenders. Not enough poise and too often just play on immediately without assessing / scanning the field ahead, even from a mark or free kick, and just kick / bomb blindly up the field or deep inside 50. I can't recall which game it was, earlier this seaaon or late in 2022 but we basically lost the game through our own ineptitude with players being very open (even through the corridor) as we transistioned out of D50 being completely ignored both by hand and foot. The two major offendors in that match were Chandler & Rivers. When i say open i'm talking overlap open either laterally or forward of the carrier being completely missed / ignored. Instead we'll just kick straight down the line to a 1 v 1 or worse.... a 1 v 2 or 3! Killing off the chance of quick overlap run through the corridor and a lethal entry inside 50. Same with open targets up the field or off the line on 45s who are obvious better options if we look for them (scaning the field instead of just looking straight ahead) and (at least) kick it to their advantage. Instead we are ignoring them (or don't look for them!) and just blindly kick down the line to a 1 v 1 or worse... an outnumbered contest. Since 2021 we seem to have regressed in general play and are now playing more like we did in 2020. Unfortunately the Red Mist appears to be back. I'm not saying every player should be perfect either. Much more difficult on the field looking at options from the grass vs sitting in the stands from a height or when watching the box. All players miss better opportunities from time to time. Always room for improvement though and for some players alot of improvement needed! This article also infers the same looking at the QF inside 50 debacle (courtesy of Superunknown)... https://www.theroar.com.au/2023/09/07/finals-fix-magic-magpies-expose-dees-massive-flaw-but-heres-why-they-should-have-to-win-it-all-without-maynard/
  2. Can you explain what your understanding is and what you mean by "a period of loading" please ND ?
  3. Wish i knew DZ. Something upstairs or maybe a training issue. The Pies had a pretty big match sim the Thurs before i think but surely we're doing similar out at Casey. Losing Gus after about 10 minutes obviously didn't help with our rotations. Another great example of why we need a sin bin or a red card system imho. So after decades and decades of players being ironed out we are still seeing this happen in finals yet the perpetrators are allowed to just play on as if nothing happened and their team gets a big advantage while they're at it. Stupid game that allows this to be honest. No wonder the filth were chanting. Imagine if Maynard is sin binned for the remainder of the match. Or the thought of being sent off was there prior to him commiting that piece of thuggery. Does he do it? Highly unlikely as his team mates / coaches will be super miffed and their team as disadvantaged as we were. As it stands now though, they (and all their media mates) just laugh it off as "an unfortunate outcome from a football act" and benefit from an extra rotation for the remainder of the match.
  4. Very nice Sue. Luck plays a fair part in these things. P.S. [censored] off MAyfart!
  5. Three weeks is a long time in footy bobby. GWS will give them a decent run. They might even get through to the big dance if they can keep up this form.
  6. I've had one straight Russell reserve single barrel bourbon on the rocks (the only way!) and the rest .... Chivas Regal 12 YOs with coke (acceptable fair for that quality i feel!??) That followed by a side 1 chaser of the 1978 Cars first LP (at about 60% of hi fi system's capable volume) which i just purchased after having to throw out my original. The original wrecked from 100s of spins when i first purchased in the 80s. Mostly due to overplaying it with a cooked gold ring stylus haha The SVS sub is having a field day here
  7. There is no way that 2/3rds of the team go missing again next Friday RBM. Even with 2 to 3 players having an off night we'll win well against the baggers....PROVIDED... Goodwin reads a bit of a riot act to the bulk of those that didnt show up against the Pies in the review sessions. Unacceptable peformences from too many on Thurs night. 3 shocking finals performances in a row. Time for Simon to bring down the hammer!!
  8. Oh yeh.... well in my defence that was written after about 4 scotch & cokes and now heading on to my fifth! I reckon i get one free pass from you as a result 🥳
  9. You got lambasted by the same player who is eternally rude!?? So, whoever it is, he's a d'lander regular who reads your posts. Interesting!
  10. Are you suggesting we should attempt some sort of forward craft and method coach? Wash your mouth!
  11. Bit of a man crush going on here me thinks WC 🤪
  12. Have faith Jack. I think we'll bounce back convincingly. They'll do it for Gus mate.
  13. Brisbane's gut running to support and effort (at home) is at another level. Reminds me of us in 2021
  14. Brisvegas will be very hard to stop from here playing at home.
  15. Correct. No club is going to get every list choice correct but some Landers did see his potential prior to leaving and said so. Not every comment on here is based on the benefit of 'Harry Hindsight'
  16. He must have gotten a more lucrative offer then BDA which we didnt want to match.
  17. You and Dub are arguing about hindsights and that he was given enough of a chance. Now you're arguing contract negotiations and he shouldve just stayed. That's a diff argument altogether and one that im pretty sure most on here would have no inside info as to how it played out.
  18. 100% NS. I love how some on here make statements as if fact... that no one on here saw the upside in him and said nothing before his entre' efforts with the Giants. A number of Landers saw the potential well before he was let go and were dissapointed that he was let go.
  19. No he didn't and in the short stints he did have, which were barely enough to show anything, he showed enough to re-sign for at least one more season. Played a VN game/role in the Premiership win also.
  20. You aren't paying enough attention Dub... Demon Dynasty 13,176 Posted April 10, 2022 Chandler's game against Willy was pretty decent i thought. Will probably need to kick the door down to get another look though me thinks after his very ordinary first up performance in Rnd 9 vs the Blues last season. I liked Bedford's first up game this year. Looked more switched on to the high end tempo of AFL and brought some serious pace and reasonable finish at the highest level. However, he pretty much only played half a match so would need to see a chunk more and playing a large part of a match before being convinced he is ready. Laurie i haven't seen enough of of late at VFL level to say. If i had to pick one who is more ready out of the three i'd probably say Bedford but not with a high degree of confidence. Demon Dynasty 13,177 Posted July 21, 2022 Has shown signs of brilliance in some of his games and hasn't had a real run at it given he's later in the pecking order behind Spargo & Kozzie. Some of his ground ball gets under pressure are as clean as i've seen. Same goes for the finish. This bloke knows where the goals are and is pretty accurate on conversion. Bit of a rarity nowadays. A good back up for Kozzie in my view and an up and coming option if we need to go with three smalls depending on match ups. BUGGER OFF BOMBERS...NO TRADE!!
  21. Bedford ugh. Still can't believe we let him go and went with Laurie. No offence to to the young fella but they are chalk and cheese in terms of speed & finish. Even slightly ahead of Chandler imv and will probably jump ahead in coming years.
  22. You might feel more at home on the filth's blog site 65
  23. Can someone with more HP knowledge and / or inside club knowledge please enlighten me... Pre match we always seem to do a fair chunk of our warm up doing multiple 50 meter sprints (or so). I don't see other clubs doing this so much. More kicking for goal, bag work with the followers in the middle practicing their craft. Sure all teams are also warming up as they run onto the field and no doubt stretching / getting their feet working inside the rooms including HB drills, short kicking drills etc. But i can't recall any other teams than us (at the pre bounce warm up) doing these multiple sprints. Any chance this is having a negative effect on our starts at all?? We are so often slow out of the blocks and wondering if we've spent too much energy too early doing these drills. Was this happening under Burgess in 2021? Anyone??
  24. Yes 100% in future but needs another pre-season and about half a season at Casey or so imv. Still goes missing for too long in game at times (as rookies do) and making some terriblly costly clangers. That last part all players do at AFL level of course but to be still doing so a fair bit at VFL level tells me he is still NQ ready for the big stage.
