I'm surprised you're asking that Macca I would suggest that's a Gil appointment and we need to keep in mind the close relationship that Eddie has had with Gil, at least until he stepped away. Hopefully not so much any more but i wouldn't put any sort of wager on it. Gil may have grown the game but he's also leaving a very dodgy legacy behind him in a tribunal / MRO sense.

Absolutely Dr... hung, drawn and quartered

This is 100% correct ... everything the AFL has done (until now) does not happen without the almighty $$ / ratings, ensuring the biggest crowds (etc) coming into play. And the biggest clubs will certainly almost always be the beneficiaries. The filth obviously the biggest of the lot. We're about to find out how much clout Laura has OR does the old guard boys club still hold the upper hand? I'm leaning towards the latter and they will massage this as they always do. Two weeks today, reduced to one on Thursday's appeal.

Max will be fine. It's Turner time

Are you kidding...

If he didnt have a big left hook on his kicking AND we had a close replacement i reckon it would've been given some consideration Bingo Appears we are going with Disco for JVR this week.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
Demon Dynasty replied to leave it to deever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agreed. The circus masters are gathering and concocting. The snake oil's already being plied by the magician's assistants (media cronies and probably Eddie behind the scenes!) The culprit asked to visit the victim as a staged show of remorse. The ultimate magic trick will then be unleashed on Thurs at the appeal which will see Mayfart free to play in a GF (should they make it)... -

Nothing's off the table when it comes to filth supporters. A couple of classics i heard on SEN when they first called in prior to turning it off... "Gus shouldn't even be playing given his history of concussion" "He took a step to the right which caused him to run into Maynard's shoulder. Not maynard's fault" "Why didn't he baulk and just go around or avoid Maynard!??" -
Bad timing Dazzle ... hopefully Sunday/Monday will be a bit more up beat

What a great win that was eh

Where was this comment / article Red? -
Sadly i think you are wasting your breath with any of the nuffies at SEN PD Most of whom have seemingly jumped on the "nothing to see here" / "will be let off" / "if he didnt have prior history of concussion things might have been different" bandwagon. Yes a stupid SEN host actually said that about Gus's concussion hostory. Effectively his own prior concussions are an inconvenient burden on Mayfart's defence! After listening for 10 minutes or so on Friday morning i killed the stream and have vowed to never listen to them again. The same can be said of most of the other print and TV media. In many cases most are probably too scared to push the "has to get weeks" case in fear of retribution from the AFL.

Michael Hibberd Hanging Up the Boots
Demon Dynasty replied to Heart Beats True's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks SD. Nicely put. Well it ain't very often that this old fart sheds a footy tear. Think the last time was the flag (tears of joy) and before that watching Tulip leave the ground injured in the 87 prelim, knowing it was his last hoorah. But yep, that's what watching one of the great defenders announce his retirement does. I can't speak highly enough off Hibbo. A player who not only gave his all every time he stepped out at AFL level but who did the same at Casey. Gave the impression from the outside (and in the huddles at Casey) of a quiet, no nonsense achiever. The energy and chemisty he must have brought to the group. Something beyond measure i would think. No doubt a tough day for all in the four walls. No wonder the playing group looked a little flat at the open session today (according to a number who attended anyway). There are good players, great players. But there are also fabulous characters that come in to a club and appear to make a huge impact on their fellow team mates. Not just on the field either, but through the spirit they bring and their general demeanour. Full respect for hibbo. Will never forget his mad run with cup in hand in 21. I couldn't stop smiling and laughing. Thanks for the cup and your amazing contribution. Long may you run son, long may you run... -

I'm surprised you're even asking Sue! P.S. you forgot to include 'teeth'. -
I suspect it comes back to this particular open session not being compulsory FR. Veterans probably one group who aren't required to attend. They might be assigned other recovery tasks?
-
Not much i wouldn't think. His last few weeks at Casey were horrid and he looked disinterested. I'm still stunned that we re-signed him tbh.
-
That's spot on. I believe this session would be optional for those who are recovering from severe knocks, niggles or players like Clarry who've just returned from a long lay off. This session is more of light run to iron out any cobwebs and or work on a few light drills here and there. And yes the PR stuff afterwards. The real stuff hap at Casey and obviously mandatory to make the cut.

Oh of course my bad
-
Desperation stakes it would seem BM. They want someone who's mobile and a decent mark to present and compete inside 50 i think. Who comes out if Turner's in as a forward? T-Mac?
-
Hopefully preserving him after full hit outs at Casey. Is a worry though. Any news on Tracc's knee which was apparently in a sleave of sorts. How did he train pls? Unhindered?
-
I doubt it Diab. Appears to be a lack of composure under pressure or when on the big stage. That happens of course. All players / teams are impacted by pressure. My worry is we just don't have even one or two that seem capable of bucking the trend and deliverimg under this environment in terms of composure and finesse / finish. At times in 2021 this was Salem and Gus but it appears Salem has regressed here. Gus also no longer playing the defensive wing role he was back then with occasional forays forward. That's why i've been keen to see Bowey get a trial run as a HHF but unfortunately that would take a pre-season of training in that role and isn't happening this year. Probably won't happen going forward either.

Possibly LZ but that's not the game i recall as i never got to see it. Only listened on radio. Sounded like a very similar output to the QF though. Apparently we didn't take enough learnings from that match. Either that or we just revert back to poor decision making / execution under pressure. To be expected to some degree in a final but unfortunately we seem to go right off our game once the pressure is up. The match i recall was at the G earlier this season. I did raise it at the time and gave clear examples and the times in the quarters that the red mist was happening with certain players. I still recall Rivers running out of our 50, through the middle to the right of the square heading to the Punt Rd end. He had someone running alongside through the middle on his left. A quick glance, shoot off the handball and that player was clear to run the ball deep inside 50 or maybe hit up a leading target. Instead Rivers blindly bombed it to a contest outside of the arc and i can't recall what happened thereafter but i do remember it was a no gain result for us. Spargo and Chandler were the two other offenders in the same quarter off HB. A free option was on offer upfield but Spargo chose to go short with a 20 meter (ish] kick trying to thread the needle between about 2 oppo players. Turnover. Chandler the same coming off HB but instead of shooting it to a CHF option at the top of the square he kicked it to a 2 v 1 nearer the boundary (southern side Punt Rd end). Another turnover which came straight back again.

HAS THE 2020 RED MIST REARED ITS UGLY HEAD AGAIN!? Gazza spoke about this issue three years ago when we were having trouble finishing our work off coming inside 50 and / or missing opportunities to connect in general as we transistion the ball out of D50... https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-2020-melbourne-problems-analysis-demons-on-the-couch-garry-lyon-red-mist-bad-kicking-playing-too-fast/news-story/8350ba20fe8a6cdc618b51cae33c412f For the last two seasons i've watched a number of our players completely ignore an open/ better option as they come out of D50 or approach our 50. It's the usual culprits and the ones i've noticed who are regular offenders (i'm sure they're not alone) are... Tracc, Clarry, Lingers, Chandler & Rivers. To a lessor extent Viney, Hunter & Gus. They sometimes lower their vision and spot an option, then attempt to kick on 45s occasionaly but it's just that they aren't necessarily very good at it and often miss the target that will sometimes result in a slingshot turnover. Sometimes Viney, Hunter & Tracc will hit targets so not all their efforts are a dead loss. I'm sure Gus & Clarry also connect on odd occasions but i doubt their numbers would be all that great comparatively speaking. Tracc & Clarry our two biggest serial offenders. Not enough poise and too often just play on immediately without assessing / scanning the field ahead, even from a mark or free kick, and just kick / bomb blindly up the field or deep inside 50. I can't recall which game it was, earlier this seaaon or late in 2022 but we basically lost the game through our own ineptitude with players being very open (even through the corridor) as we transistioned out of D50 being completely ignored both by hand and foot. The two major offendors in that match were Chandler & Rivers. When i say open i'm talking overlap open either laterally or forward of the carrier being completely missed / ignored. Instead we'll just kick straight down the line to a 1 v 1 or worse.... a 1 v 2 or 3! Killing off the chance of quick overlap run through the corridor and a lethal entry inside 50. Same with open targets up the field or off the line on 45s who are obvious better options if we look for them (scaning the field instead of just looking straight ahead) and (at least) kick it to their advantage. Instead we are ignoring them (or don't look for them!) and just blindly kick down the line to a 1 v 1 or worse... an outnumbered contest. Since 2021 we seem to have regressed in general play and are now playing more like we did in 2020. Unfortunately the Red Mist appears to be back. I'm not saying every player should be perfect either. Much more difficult on the field looking at options from the grass vs sitting in the stands from a height or when watching the box. All players miss better opportunities from time to time. Always room for improvement though and for some players alot of improvement needed!
