Everybody's different Jaded. In moderation it can be beneficial for some, others maybe not.

2018 Demonland Banner 2.0
I thought JD's banner very cheery and tastefull DV... May might even get a chuckle out of it. A little SOH never goes astray, even in the darkest times. Each to their own.

Making the finals
That is correct. It wasn't just an injury/fitness issue, there was a clear review / change up to game style and structure by Goody and the FD which would have been worked on over the 10 day break. We also didn't start the game with Chunk & Lewis (or one of them) on both wings and only one of them played there for a short stint later in the 2nd half.

Ground balls
Personel and form. Jeffy our No.1 tackler inside 50 from 2018 and Hannan No.6 both out for the first 5 / 7 weeks respectively. ANB No.2 was badly out of form when he was in earlier in the year and then out, till Sat, where he found some form. T-mac No.5 last year, badly out of form till the 2nd half of Saturday's match. Edit: C Wags has the No.1 title here so far this season (using averages) followed by ANB, Tracc, Sparrow & Jeffy (both equal 4th).

Steven May - drinking session
Owner was sculling this before he saw some sleazy paparazzi (since identified as a Tom someone or other) in the bushes taking snaps & he quickly slapped the cap back on! He was half full but after spotting the published photo says he's feeling a tad empty and 'May' need a hair of the dog prior to his next visit to the club. When asked what club he was referring to the owner became annoyed responding ... "whichever allows me a free reign to eat, drink, eat again and be merry and where the only laps I'll be running are from the bar to the dunny and back to the bar again...now could you please bugger off and let me finish what i started!". Nash you probably didnt see my post from the "Lewis is cooked...." thread on Sat after the match against the Hawks. Here is the end bit... P.S. Jordy should be on the D'land banner ....in place of May who's done zip for this club so far (assuming that IS May in the middle). Edited Saturday at 10:52 PM by Rusty Nails If i may mention one other key difference between Jordy and May that should see Jordy replace May on the banner... 4 time Premiership player, Club B&F 2014, All Australian 2014 ... and... Brendan McCartney & Cooney/Bulldogs situation
My biggest concern in that clip ....the lack of apparent love/care/mateship for Jeffy? Like to see the boys, and Goody, get around him a bit more. A few more indigenous players wouldn't hurt either. Skills/finish are usually sublime. Tim Kelly would be awesome if he wasn't home sick.

The Handball
Mastered it ages ago. The hand holding the ball is used to throw/direct the ball towards the receiver (over the head, around and behind etc) just make sure you follow through (or make it look like you're following through, even after the ball has left the hand holding the ball) with a fist, connect or not it doesn't matter. The 7 second mark is a great example here from 2013. A left handed hand ball around the body on the run effectively directing the ball at an angle slightly behind to Buddy. This isn't the greatest picture and I've seen better front on angles that were shown around the time which clearly show the ball leaving the player's hand which hooks the ball around the corner before an attempt to get a fist to the ball afterwards. There was one of these (one handed and a very meek late follow through), in the match on Sat in the last quarter by Gunston as mentioned above!! Resulted in an overlap play and finished in a goal. My view is the AFL want a fast moving free flowing game to attract more watchers so happy to see the umps slack off with the strict interpretation. Some umps are a little more strict and observant on it than others but few and far between.

POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
If you're referring to Smith, sure Billy got burnt on a few occasions but their was also some very ordinary turnovers when we were moving up the field off HB etc and Smith took advantage going the other way a few times. After the first it was a pretty even contest and Billy made very few mistakes with ball in hand. With our record of being the biggest 'turnover kings' in the AFL so far, i would take that performance anyday vs having someone who continually produces soul destroying turnovers gifting the opp easy goals.

Jones was quiet in the first half but certainly got going in the 2nd with some clutch pieces of play, tackles and reasonable finish with that goal which was the catalyst that sparked everyone into "we can win this mode". Jones looks much more at home across HF but can still pinch hit inside in short bursts through the mid field also which is handy. I've said this many times before though... play BOTH chunk & Viney through the middle in the same center bounce at your peril. When Viney is out (albeit unfortunate for us / him) they can't both be in there which is a huge win for our mid field balance IMO. The only correction with Jones at HF is if he marks anywhere near 50 he really needs to lay off to someone lateral (or handball) to somone who can roost it from the arc more effectively. Either that or try and hit a short lead up target. Is still lifting the team (at times) and leading by example. True Grit personified! Thanks again Cap!

POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Ok.... watched the replay with an eye on Billy. Apart from one coughed up ground hard ball get in the last quarter, couldn't really fault his game. Played a fair amount of time off a wing on Smith & also running with $cullduggery inside at center bounces and pretty much halved most of those contests while doing some good work both inside (pressuring and competing for contested a little) and outside. On review, my initial impressions that he coasted on one or two occasions when the opp had possession was incorrect, more likely taking space or in a rolling sweeper role (on a couple of occasions) defensive side of stoppages. Only my amature opp but a very serviceable solid game from Billy without hitting any heady heights.

Demon's 3rd qtr v Hawks reignites season.
Match fitness improving for sure. Some run happening, Goody dropping the crazy high press and playing a plus one behind the ball early to stop an early run on occurring. Putting more players into roles that enhance and utilise their strengths a little more such as Salem to a wing. Tracc into the middle after half time was important, getting him involved and creating a little more space and mobility in the forward 50 for Hunty and others to lead into. Have to persevere with this! Getting more balance with the inside/outside structure around stoppages and as a result players not getting sucked into the ball as much and more effectively covering the opps fat outlet options. Turnovers down 18% from the previous week also a huge help. Players starting to run forward of the footy and others looking for them on the clearances as confidence grew was a great sign also. Can't recall seeing much of that so far this season. Some starting to bring great 2nd efforts more often, like Harmes, Chunk and Jeffy (late, pressuring inside 50 for the critical turnover close to goal). Downside is there's still a fair number of players well off their usual standard (not even their best) from 2018. Lots of work still ahead to get many of them back somewhere near their 2018 form but nonetheless, a great result against the arch enemy.
