  1. Take note folks... Apart from Geelong having a spare behind the ball and the Swans having a plus one on the ball, it's mostly man on man footy early here which means very high pressure footy. Something we didn't cope with very well this season but will need to learn to/and bring it for long periods, if we're to get back here soonish.
  2. Ty to EO for starting this thread. The happiest day and year of my life. Let's take a moment to remember our immortal legends that broke the 57 year drought and brought so much pride & joy to the Demon faithful...
  3. Ditto. A miserly 3 more in the next five years. That's not asking too much is it?
  4. Weid is worth a trial in Petty's role IMO. Allows Petty to play forward and see what he can bring for a stint. Successful then of course you keep going. If not you revert back. Weid can also handle some minor ruck duties with Max in this role. No one else on this list (at present) offers this versatility and upside (if it comes off!) for us nor has the same height as Petty to take a tallish defender if required. Weid is the same height.
  5. Personally think he's more an old fashioned 1 v 1 defender that will blanket/spoil his man and the damage at ground level on turnover / transition LN. Petty's good at the former and does ok with the latter without being all that damaging. Disco plays a little taller than his stature as well. Pretty good leap.
  6. So we have the GF back at the G for the first time in three years but no free-to-air coverage of the GF parade. Well done Gil!
  7. Thanks for the heads up DT
  8. Does that make his sidekick there the Weid?
  9. I agree Mr O. You would think it never happened and it was a regional or outer burbs metro comp GF. Actually even those would've probably got more coverage in their local rags! The AFL circus continues.
  10. Why can't we target both.... 1 mid (class, poise, agility and skills/finish pls) ... Tsatas / Humphrey / Other? 1 KTF ...Cadman/Jefferson?
  11. See Cadman had yet another very good result up forward kicking the most goals (3) in the nail biter under 18 National Championship.
  12. I'd be flumoxed if he ends up there AF. Has to have some link somewhere if the Manager's to have any leverage at the bargaining table i would think.
  13. WAS AF. When was the last time he played at that level? Salary cap dump or no salary cap dump, you try and hang on to the best players on your list no matter what. See DeGoey. There's more to it than just the dump. I smell damaged goods! NO TRADE DEMONS...FCS DON'T DO IT!
  14. Ah yes.. i was at Pie Park in that last match with bro and recall a two edged sword. We were happy as we defeated the Pies in the last round under Bobby Skilton, delivering them a rare wooden spoon. However, i also recall the filth supporters cheering and [censored]-a-hoop that someone beat someone (came up on the scoreboard or they might have had a few radios about) keeping us out of the final 5. Might have been Saints over the Roy Boys but too long ago for me now. Geez i hate that mob with a passion. Them & Hawk suporters originate from the same sewer pipe i reckon. Also never forget folks that many Swanny supporters are a poor man's filth equivalent. The garbage and trash that comes from their mouths is right up there with the other shonkey clubs of the AFL. There's nothing humble about many from this mob. Can't stand em.
  15. A bit before my time Mono but i'll take your word for it!
  16. Yes! I think nearing the end of his career as well? One season or the bulk of one season i believe
  17. Well done TW. This is also evidence of what a whipping boy this club has been over many decades and that it isn't just a media thing it runs deep (or did so) within AFL halls. Imagine if it was Eddie, Colliwobbles and Malthouse on the receiving end! Remember that even after this, he was allowed to remain in the same position. Effectively a slap across the wrist. And did so for ANOTHER 4 YEARS until he left in 2016 on his own terms for a cushie Govt role. Even after departing he was allowed to remain on his own Indegenous Advisory Committee which he himself set up the year before. Was also annointed and given the tick of approval by Gil as he departed. They're all the same and all on the same massive gravy train. God forbid anyone gets in the road of that!... ..."the Commission and clubs wish him well in his new role," CEO Gillon McLachlan said. "I would like to personally acknowledge Jason’s leadership and the very positive impact he has had on our approach to indigenous and multicultural affairs." 18. Assuming worst case. Pure speculation Mono Im not sure why so many followers are fixated that most players should almost always stick to the role they've been very good or better at for most of their or even the early phases of one in the case of Petty. That's a great example of what can happen when necessity calls and you suddenly find that someone can play a diff position and play possibly as good as they were or even better in the former. You just need to give it a chance sometimes. Hec, if it fails after a decent block of say 5 games, you just revert back to what that player was doing previously. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Darcy Moore a great example of that. Paddy McCartin another great example of one that worked. Gary Ablett Snr. Paul Salmon While not everyone is capable and it won't always work out (Moore) i'm sure there's plenty of other examples in VFL/AFL history where it has.
  19. The issue / problem with our list and the reason we missed a PF opportunity doesn't lie with our defence aside from a classy running HB who is elite by foot IMO DJ. You can shuffle Weideman into Petty's role. Or even Turner once he finds his feet. We need solutions up forward and in the short term (unless we hit something phenomenal in the trade period) Petty is a must trial option for early next season IMV. The existing tall alternatives (aside from Macca but may not make it back) have been trialled and pretty much fallen flat. Run with roughly the same (KTF) set up next season and we'll get roughly the same result, or potentially worse, as more teams go past us in development and additions to their lists. JVR obviously adds something new but he's more a medium / tall vs a tall forward (at this point... might get there with time if he continues to sprout). If you remember prior to this season pretty much 99 out of 100 footy pundits and scribes had written McCartin's career off. Longmire had imagination and vision. He's now playing a key role in that team in defence and about to play off on the last day in Sept. No reason why we can't at least TRY/TRIAL same with Weideman. And it's a potential duel winner IF Petty works out to be a decent forward.
  20. Yes that's just my take as the Weideman option avoids the need for an immediate back up ruckman aka Grundy. We will be better served investing the $$ and spot on the list elsewhere IMV. Still being in a premiership window we're in dire need of a DANGEROUS key tall forward over Grundy as well as some speed, run and class (finish / delivery inside 50) coming off HB and out of the middle. We presently have a big fat ZERO class finisher and mover in the mid field who can hit up targets on a regular basis in an elite sense and kick the odd goal or two on a semi-regular basis. The poor connection/delivery, lack of run/speed on the ball and lack of class through mid field/off HB has already cost us a PF and potentially a 2nd shot at silverware this season. We have to go all out and ALL IN as best we can to inject a fair amount of the above if we're to get back to a PF in the next year or two IMV and take advantage of the major assets still on the list.
  21. Not according to the FD & Coach DM. Youth, Energy & SPEED on the ball and at ground level. Speed on transition lacking this season and other teams really benefited from this and our regular down the line default play. Whixh is why we'd be mad not to resign the likes of Bedford IMV, even for one or two seasons. The team we saw in the second half of 2022 was ploddy and also poor with execution under pressure. Way too many turnovers and part of that problem was....we got caught and we got caught alot. Players like Viney," Salem, JJ & ANB are great at clocking up possessions but offered us very little leg speed and were often caught HTB (= turnovers) on the attempted spread. Also noticed players drove out of congestion with their legs alot less vs 2021. I would be looking at the fitness / sports science team here. What happened to that aspect in one season? Why did it drop off so significantly with so many? LJ also dropped off a cliff with contested marking here for reasons obvious. I reckon SG is also hoping Grundy will bring us back to something resembling 2021 levels here with Grundy. He wouldn't be the first premiership coach to try and replicate a premiership year 'style of play' and there's no harm with this if other teams haven't progressed, worked out how to combat it and improved their own methods/style and lists. Problem with that is the top clubs rarely stand still and we've seen at least three clubs move alongside or past us this season. I just hope SG isn't living in 2021 fairy land and also sees it something like this and awakes from his 2022 2nd half slumber.
  22. Dont know about being soft on Max but agree on the rest. We're barking up the wrong tree with Grundy and the Weid has shown that he's a worthy (minor ruck relief role) option. Grundy my moth chewed undies!! Could someone pls throw a bucket load of Gatoraid over Simon. Someone from the filth has obviously attempted to hypnotise him into taking taking the bait!
  23. JVR will be in the mix next seaaon but you can't expect him to have a major impact all season, not consistently anyway. That probably won't happen (if its going to happen) for two to three pre-seasons afterwards. Unless of course he turns in to an absolute super star within his first season or two (unlikely). Macca is out for at least 6 months and will he even return at all or get back to anywhere near his 2021 form from there? Hope so but again can't be certain here. So IMO BB probably needs to go around once more. At least early in the season, and look to support him with JVR, possibly Macca if he gets back OR one of your options below. Turner will slot in beautifully at some point. However, assuming we don't get Grundy (Lucifer pls make sure of it!!) Max will need some back up but doesn't need to be more than about 20% of the time IMV. Turner isn't the answer here obviously as he won't be assisting in any ruck duties. No for various reasons including too valuable as a KF and/or in a HHF role. This is your man. As per McCartin this season, Weid is the ideal candidate to swing into Petty's role. Doesn't like too much contact in a contest? Can spoil from behind or just coming in from the side peeling off opponents for the assist etc. Can take a grab. Same height as Petty plus 2kg. Turning circle of the Titanic...again defence is the solution here. Can ruck and not just ruck. He can hold his own. And that's all Maxy / Mid Field needs for approx 20% of time. Maxy takes the Weid (ex Petty role) as a resting (intercept) backman which he has done on prior occasions with a fair amount of success mind you. Tomo is apparantly exploring alternatives and appears to have lost half a yard and any leaping ability he might have had prior to the knee injury last season. Can't offer any ruck relief option. Also can't see him offering ruck relief Very solid defender, even better as a medium forward IMV. Too short. Can't see him in the ruck. This is a possibility but would still like to see a relief ruck option here. If we want Petty forward in 2023 and i believe we should see this from here, then the Weid is your man. Yes most of my opinions are biased due to my "DO NOT GET GRUNDY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES" outlook. But there it is!
  24. 100% SN. This bloke is class personified with ball in hand which he'll get more of at AFL level IF he's given more chances to get more of it. Alsi probably the quickest guy on the list (see run down tackles/forward 50 and other areas, pressure at ground level). GIANT NOOOOOO GRUNDY GIANT YESSSSS TOBY ASAP (3 year deal!)
  25. Sorry but this will be a disastrous trade for us if it goes ahead imv. Pies will be ecstatic though!
