  1. And that's good night Puddy Cats with some nice ground ball from Bill to Melk for the around the corner sealer
  2. Nice read and kick inside from Spargs there
  3. Beautiful 45 meter kick inside from Dunstan to Brown on the lead.
  4. Woe should be debuting this week. If he doesn't Goodwin has lost his marbles.
  5. Especially the speckie. Moniz had a mare that quarter. Decision making and disposal very ordinary resulting in a number of relatively straight forward chains that should have resulted in some nice looks inside 50. Consistency hasn't developed alot this season. Showes promise in patches but more often than not it's one step forward then two back. This happens with young players but at this level i figured he would be a little further along than he appears at present.
  6. It was still the non-HTB call on Fritsch that started proceedings though W. Yes to the above also along with Max dropping his gimme chest mark at CHF.
  7. Exactly. I knew the umps would pull a few outta their derriere in the last to give the Cats the momentum. We needed to have capatilised earlier and been up at least 3 goals or so to have any chance in the last. That's how i saw the tackle at the time and was lambasted by someone on game day thread saying Fritsch would get weeks. The umps are so predictable at Tax Payer Park.
  8. Thanks mate. Ye Olde' kidney stone. Nothing life threatening but as Dr. Smith used to say "Oh the pain....the pain!" Not as far fetched as some might think. Will be looking at the Casey match with even more interest than usual tonight
  9. Would have him coming in off the square Macca. He's a much better prospect on the move and if he gets on the end of some chains he'd be very handy with delivery with that last kick inside where we are devoid of talent bar the odd cameo from Viney of late. Mostly lost at CBs and rarely got on the end of things when he was played here earlier this season.
  10. been doing that a fair bit prior to this match but i missed most of this first half
  11. Well we have the ruck side well covered upstairs (for now). Wouldn't hurt at all. Schache can take over ruck duties in the middle and up the ground while Verrall's forward.
  12. Yeh maybe to give Verrall a run. Bell's been in pretty good form at times but will be interesting to see Verrall
  13. Round 15, 2023 Tax Payer Park - Cats vs Demons Have added Player and Team Season Ratings up to last week to provide a bit of a form guide as to how player's have faired statistically from week to week. Obviously one week's result vs the more robust season average needs to be considered when making comparisons. 14. One of the rare times i didn't see the ins/outs spending a night in hospital. I recovered in time to watch the match and was stunned when i saw Spargo getting his gear off coming on as the sub. I figured he was dropped completely from the team after last weeks horribilis. Goodwin apparently unable to read the "in form / out-of form" tea leaves and play the right cards in terms of time needed at Casey and giving others from there (who are in good form) a chance. Wrong type of player to impact as sub regardless. One of the worst selection moves in a long while. Harmes or even Woe may have had more impact.
  15. We've been doing this for years under Stafford. Even worse, if you're talls are going to sit around and not lead enough, at least have them positioned so there's some separation. At least one tall should be playing true CHF designated area! Not 20 to 25 meters out just in front of the FF. Kozzy, Chandler, ANB or Harmes sometimes played at CHF ..... fcs what is Stafford/Goodwin thinking here!? Mind boggling stuff this season and the last kick inside 50 still a dog's breakfast at round 15!
  16. That's two consecutive losses in the same manor to the Dockers and now the Cats (2022 loss vs 2023 loss). The Cats also brought in a pretty ordinary line up. Whereas aside from say Clarry, Bowey, Petty (who wasn't ready instead of Tomo...very poor call needed a run at Casey) & at least one of Macca or BBB, we probably had our best 22 on the park. The old coaching mantra "don't get beaten by what you know" unfortunately doesn't seem to be holding true within our FD this season. If you can't assess the weaknesses in the coaching staff, personnel and systems after the first loss (2022) and continue to bring more of the same the following season, then guess what. You're gonna get more of the same results. The oppo that's beaten us in 2022 doesn't need to adjust much either. They just go on their merry way. Brad Scott read the play book also.... a few notes exchanged? Any team playing us (especially in the wet) just needs to review the Lions and this match then execute for the win. Of course some won't be capable of doing so but the more disciplined / experienced and / or talented lists will all consider themselves a very good chance against us from here on.
  17. Can't see our forward line and its craft ever reaching the professional heights that sees it becoming as dangerous / damaging as our defensive / mid field lines while Stafford remains Macca You can change the deck chairs as often as you like personnel wise, and we have. Not going anywhere. But unfortunately the one thing i'm sure of is we will continue on with Stafford until it's too late (for this season anyway) and it finally dawns on enough within the club and he is finally moved on. The window is still open for another serious tilt if we fix this aspect of the team. As to how much longer though? Father time waits for no one.
  18. Can't see this happening while Stafford remains. Mid-season change up needed here or we will just get more of the same. Can't believe Goodwin hasn't recognised and acted on this after all this time.
  19. We relied too much on our only genuine extractor in Viney (with Clarry out) and then took one of our other minor extractors off for Spargo. In dry weather Viney will sometimes get the odd clearance assist from Max (taking the ball directly out of the ruck contest and kicking forward or occasional HB to receiver) and to a slightly lessor extent even Grundy. In wet weather though neither of the taps provided any drive forward and can't recall one extraction or clearance from either. Tracc about the only other that got the odd extraction/first use off to a receiver in congestion. Left Viney exposed and was expected to do the bulk of this work over four quarters. Simply asking too much from the VC. The battle was always going to be won and lost at the source. Not sure why you would not leave Jordan on as another mid field / stoppage attendee. Add to this our lack of run & drive by either winger. Langdon getting stuck / caught and/or turning the ball over a fair bit and from the get go. He set the tone early. Forwards not presenting often enough resulting in a crowded forward zone. Max being played forward instead of behind the ball for much of the night. No true CHF yet we dump a number of our kicks there and watched oppo tall defenders run in for the easy intercept. Each oppo defensive line must see this on their reviews every week and lick their chops at the prospect here. The list of glaring flaws goes on and on. A decent quality list being poorly managed in the wet and especially from a mid / forward perspective. Forward craft is a complete shambles resulting in terribble conversion % giving the oppo a big sniff of winning almost every week. We rarely look comfortable and a shoe in to win any match as a result, even against some of the lessor lights.
  20. Would be up there with the worst teams in the AFL in wet weather or slippery conditions. The over use of short dinky handballs to players a foot or two away under pressure instead of the quick kick forward in the wet was astonishingly poor football at this level from Goodwin down, with a few player exceptions. Viney being the main one. Yes i place a large part of the blame here on the coach as he apparently doesn't appear capable of getting this group to change up the way we usually play vs what is needed in wet or slippery conditions. Any team watching us vs the Lions & tonight will figure themselves in with a serious chance of an easy kill if playing us in these conditions bar maybe the bottom two or three. And the bulk of teams would have cleaned the Cats up tonight. We were woeful. Im not a big fan of the dual rucks in inclement weather. I would play one as the sub and just change out if needed at some stage when / if tickets are spent. It robs us of an extra running player on the outside with some skills that can finish our extraction work coming inside 50 and in general play. Max played behind the ball a fair amount with much success last week. Yet this week he plays very small minutes there aside from the last quarter when the game was pretty much gone. Weird stuff from the coaching group. Our forward craft and mid / forward connection lack of cohesion is still bog ordinary After 1.5 seasons of trying to improve, it continues to be a dog's breakfast (at best). Example... Hunter kicking it to Pickett in a two v one as the FF towards the end there. Hilarious. No class or idea as to the last kick coming inside 50. It's just constant bombing and/or kicking it to the goal line. Very few players lowering their vision before they dispose inside 50. Just tumble tumble or bomb 90% of the time in the hope that getting enough ball inside will overwhelm. Rarely anyone playing a higher true CHF role for the many dump kicks we put there. Would love to see the percentage of times our kicks inside 50 drop at true CHF and yet no one is there to contest. Often the oppo does though and they're off to the races on the slingshot and occasionaly turning this into a 12 point turn around. Instead we often see one of Kozzy, Chandler or ANB sitting there. Laughable stuff from the coaching group to think this is a good strategy! Who's teaching them this rubbish and where's the system / structure up forward? Now that BBB & Macca appear to be gone we are in serious need of a genuinly dangerous KTF. Such a frustrating team to watch in the wet. And an under performing one (paper vs performance/outcome) imv. The whole coaching crew and the playing group needs to look in the mirror in terms of.... > how poorly we play in wet/slippery conditions > generaly poor forward structure, particularly at CHF as mentioned above. > Still unable to hit targets coming inside very often > All talls playing deep and sitting back when a surge is on, no one leading at the ball carrier. > The last part (very few leads to higher places) then results in a very crowded forward line from the goal line to 30 odd meters out making it almost imposssible for the medium & small crumbers to work in. > Giving licence to certain players who arent very accurate kicks to attempt short / medium passes into the corridor resulting in easy turnovers and goals smacks of very poor coaching / disipline imho. There's no papering over this one. Too many horribilis downs amongst some decent wins this season. The difference between our best and our worst, particularly in the wet, means there's a fair gap between us and the top 3 from where i sit.
  21. By far our equal worst game of the season imv alongside the Lions. No idea in the wet and/or slippery conditions from the Coach down.
  22. Playing in front again. No dare from Lever there.....the HB to Rivers was on... FIELD POSITION!! ANB ughhhhhhh
  23. Spargo for Jordy ... unless he was injured that's just the wrong call imv
