Plus McVee really had his colours lowered today by Rankine, who admittedly is an absolute gun, but you can make a case for him making way for Hibbo, who looked 90 levels above everyone else at Casey. I would consider bringing in Petty forward but I know that won’t happen anymore. Just can’t see how you drop Tomlinson on today’s game. He was so much better than May, but of course you don’t drop May. Or do you “manage” him? The big call will be Grundy. Richmond are basically ruckman-less. We could bring Grundy in for BB and try and stretch them that way?

Exactly this. Ross Lyon is the best coach in the game at taking the worst possible lists and turning them into mediocre teams. Saints have a bottom 4 list IMO. If Ross coached Adelaide they’d be top 6. They’d never kick more than 4 goals a game, but they’d be top 6.

Because they are a very young side. So they are going to be inconsistent. A side that takes it up to all top 4 teams is not a bad side. They play very aggressive footy. Like the Pies that is fraught with danger. Unlike the Pies, they don’t have the experience. Pies are on average the second most experienced side playing week in week out. That helps. Adelaide will be a very good team in a year or two. I know I would rather play any side currently sitting 5th- 12th over them.

No I’m asking who do you think is a better side? Because the Saints are 6th and they are, IMO, rubbish. Adelaide are inconsistent because they’re young. But they are a much better side than Saints. Ladder position aside.

They will be a bloody good team in a year or two. Make no mistake about that.

We are 4th on the ladder with 2 games and percentage ahead of the rest. Why is it blind faith to believe we are a good side? We’ve beaten more top 4 sides than the Pies have.

Why is Tomlinson getting dropped this week for Petty, when he was our best tall defender today, instead of Petty going into the forwardline? I will never understand this logic.

Not enough is being made of the fact that we have been without arguably the best player in the competition for close to 3 months now. Oh and missing our best forward and one of the best medium forwards in the competition. We just do not appreciate what a loss Oliver is. That we’ve managed to beat 2 top 4 teams without him is bloody excellent. Very few sides would cover this type of loss for as long as we have.

Pies give up a massive lead against Adelaide too and conceded 7.1 in a quarter to them. We came back from 5 goals last week against Brisbane. Why oh why are the Pies the most amazing team to ever exist when they claw their way to win, and we are no good when we do? 🤷‍♀️

Joel Smith is the perfect sub. He can play forward or back and make a really strong impact in limited game time. My choice for the sub role in September.

Tell me the difference? In both scenarios you let your opponent get the better of you for periods of the game. It is far less risky to hold a lead than to try and claw one back.

This was a good practice for when we face the Pies again. Adelaide play a very similar attacking game. Only difference is Adelaide have a much better forwardline than Pies. We held the Pies to 17 scoring shots.
