Why? We would be able to match that deal. In fact I would be shocked if we don’t have an extension on the table for him if he’s willing to commit beyond the next 2 years.
-
Correction. We got pick 46 and next year’s second round for Grundy. Why do people ignore future picks? 🤷♀️
-
Firstly we can compete with that. We have plenty of cap space. Secondly he is contracted. He cannot be “gone” unless we choose to trade him.
-
It will be higher next year if he kicks 50 goals
-
We have Kynan Brown F/S and we need to upgrade McVee and Turner onto the primary list.

I have a feeling pick 11 is not here for a long time, she's here for a good time...

Essentially exactly the same as the Bowes deal to Geelong last year. We take the salary which GWS can't afford, and in return we get pick 7. Oh and also the player that goes along with the salary.
-
What about our club suggests to you that we won't take the higher ground? Of course we will. Nothing to gain by having a go at a player you chose to bring to your club.
-
First we didn't let them have Clarry, now we won't let them take Petty. Poor Crom.
-
How can they play hardball? Is he not out of contract? 🤷♀️
-
No we didn’t we got a second round pick as well. The initial offer was pick 46 only.
-
If that’s what you think then that is your right. I think we tried to make it work and in the end it was Grundy who cracked it and gave up. 3 clubs in 3 years. Ask yourself who the common denominator is.
-
It didn’t work. But we tried. Better to have tried and failed than to have done nothing. In the end we didn’t lose anything.
-
I don’t think we make this trade unless we have something else already in the pipeline. Either we are trying to get pick 1, or we have a big name trade that we need to acquire top 10 picks for.
-
And? We don’t need points. We clearly don’t think we will take more than one maybe two picks in the draft (plus list upgrades etc). We are going all in on pick one. Bring it on.
-
I endorse this
-
Future picks don't need to come into this. 14 and Grundy for McLean is a very good deal and a win win for both teams as they both get something they really need.
-
What club would sign off on North ending up with picks 1, 2 and 3? Go home North, you're drunk!
-
Indeed, but Swans will want more for McLean.
-
If Petty wants to go home then he’s essentially saying he wants to go back to live in a country town and not play AFL. His “home” is not Adelaide. It’s not even near Adelaide. The lure might be his Adelaide based girlfriend, but at 23 that relationship may not last. Or his girlfriend might relocate to Melbourne. 2 years is a long time when you are 23 years old. I’m not letting him go unless he’s categorically unwilling to stay or his foot is busted. We can always trade him next year while he’s contracted after he won us a flag kicking 50 goals 😀

Do you think we have gone cold on this?

Was this Dodoro pulling a prank? A laughable offer.

They both have exceptional amounts of hair but

Proof once again that draft picks are not always the Hail Mary we all hope they will be. For every Oliver and Trac there are dozens of O’Briens. It is why trading quality players is very risky. Petty can be a major contributor to a flag in 2024 and we can then still trade him while contracted. It would be silly to let him go now, unless we believe his foot injury will prevent him from having an impact on games next year and we can get better value now.
