Match Day Experience - time to lift our game
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Leoncelli_36's topic in Melbourne Demons
While I can understand why we've chosen 'Hells Bells' by AC/DC to welcome the team onto the ground, after yesterday's performance, I think it's time we switched brothers from Angus and Maclolm Young to their older brother George. We should replace 'Hells Bells' with 'Sorry' by the Easybeats instead. That way the club can apologise for their performance at the same time as we have a band name more reflective of our team. -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 20

6. McDonald 5. Viney 4. Michie 3. Watts 2. N Jones 1. Harmes Admittedly, only Tom McDonald and Viney were worthy of votes. -
What are you calling "the original MFC logo"? To help, have a look at the four at the top of this article written, believe it or not, by Ben Newton (I assume a different one) a couple of years ago. Did you mean any one of these or perhaps another one?

Not true. Plugger is well known for throwing his crutches at Eddie McGuire.

THE SAGA CONTINUES - WADA APPEALS
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Let's be clear. I'm no expert and not a lawyer. But the lawyer who conducted the OH&S training I attended did say that off the play conduct was still consented to (on the basis that it would not be unexpected) unless it was extreme. The Leigh Matthews and Neville Bruns case was mentioned as an example of something extreme which players do not consent to. I have no idea how you can draw a line which determines what would be consented to and what wouldn't. But as a former CEO, I know that I'd rather have taken action like McLachlan has done than not, given the personal liability that exists under OH&S laws. -
If you want to argue that "in 2-3 years the likes of Kent, Neal-Bullen, Frost, Stretch will also be more important/influential" it would only be fair to argue that players such as Cross, Dunn and Vince possibly will not be because of their age.

Where's an OH&S lawyer when you need one? I remember this being discussed when I was forced by my employer to attend an OH&S training day. I believe the short answer is that AFL players "consent" to being pushed, bumped, elbowed and jumper punched as that's part of the game. That consent does not, however, extend to matters such as vilification. I think the sledging falls on the side of non-consenting behaviour. -

Does he have a choice? We know that under OH&S laws, CEOs are culpable if employees are injured at work. Those laws include bullying as a cause of "injury". If the CEO of the AFL does not make some gesture towards trying to prevent bullying, he might be culpable should a player who believes he's been bullied takes action against the AFL. The question therefore that needs answering is this: Is sledging a form of bullying? Whether we like it or not, I suspect the answer is "yes". -
Nice pun

Mark Robinson is an honourable man. He would appreciate* you having chosen a character that appears three times. I'm now trying to work out how to pair Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 and the Merry Wives of Windsor with the Herald Sun, SEN and Fox Footy. *Note: I don't for one moment believe that Mark Robinson has ever heard of Falstaff. He might have heard of William Shakespeare. -

Have we got a bit off topic? I don't know whether that's ever happened on Demonland before. -

There's also Demonland. But I'm not sure what that might do for anybody's faith in fellow humans. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm not sure what you mean by a "Roos-type recruit" but I'm not convinced there's a lot of value in recruiting players who can't get games at their current clubs. None of Riley, Michie or Newton have set the world on fire. Surely the players we get should be ahead of the ones we've tried over and over again. If Bail and Matt Jones are getting games ahead of these players, were they worth selecting in the first place? -

But will the streamed product be provided free of charge to the consumer? That's the bit that matters most. -
I'm not sure if this is the right place, but whenever Matt Jones plays his next game it will be game 50 for him, for which he deserves to be congratulated. That will qualify him for inclusion in various stats tables. The one he won't like will be inclusion in the list of current players with worst win:loss ratio. At best (ie, if the team wins next time he plays) he will have 9 wins from 50 games, ie, 18.0% placing him 4th on this table (scroll down). On the plus side, one of Bail or Pedersen (each on 25.0% with Stefan Martin) should drop out of the top 20.

Write your first sentence this way: "Our good record against the Demons gives me promise (2 losses, 4 narrow wins since 2012)". That's what the Bulldog fansite is probably arguing. And it's a much stronger position to argue from.

Why do you think James Hird or his supporters are the "prime suspects for the leaks"? I would have thought the prime suspect was the manager of a player trying to extract something from Essendon such as agreement to a trade. Player managers using the media to pressure or even threaten clubs is not an unknown modus operandi. -

"Today it's unanimous among most pundits that the Dishlickers under Luke Beveridge are the feel good story of the season" This is what I want next year. I want the Demons to be universally regarded as the feelgood story of 2016. -
The last time we played the Bulldogs a major reason for our win was M Jones and Bail stopping the run of Murphy and Johanisen. I expect Salem to return and possibly Bail. If Salem plays on the half back flank, it frees up one of Cross, Lumumba, Howe or Grimes to move on ball or forward. However, I would have thought Howe, who was seriously hobbling only 10 minutes into the game last week, to be out injured. While I assume he had a jab or two and actually played very well after he came back on, I expect there was enough damage there for him to miss this week. Assuming no other injuries I think Harmes needs a rest. He was clearly out of puff at the end of the third quarter last week and was the obvious player to be subbed off. So, IN: Salem and Bail; OUT: Howe (inj) and Harmes (omit...but actually rested).

Which one? The interlocked MFC letters? The simple square blue box with the red V? The stylised Demon head with horns written as the letter M? The stylised full size Demon with a trident? Or another?

If you're paid to provide information and opinions in a public forum I would have thought it would be best to appear with people who make you appear smarter, better informed and more articulate. The better question is why does Mark Robinson put himself in a position which makes him look dumber, less well informed and inarticulate? I've probably answered my own question.
