On the radio they said GWS went man-on-man in the 2nd quarter and we got bottled up with static movement and only contested targets... Which took us a half to adapt to, before finding a way forward effectively in the last. Feels like the team have a bit to learn about applying their game style as they deal with opposition attempts to shut it down. That they worked their way through it, without getting discouraged, is the most promising aspect of the win.

I guess the recent resurrection of Matt Jones highlights how these things ebb and flow.

You'll find I never claimed he was best 22 at present. I object to hard red lines being drawn through players as to their potential to improve and contribute.

That pressure from players to come in (Brayshaw, Petracca, H, Trenners,... Etc) on tomorrow's squad will ensure players like Harmes OMac, MJones, Oliver, Kennedy, Bug perform WELL or be likely exclusions over the coming month. will sort the wheat from the chaff, so to speak...

I reckon one of Frost's key role thats been alluded to is to draw his player away from Hogan to ensure he's one-out where possible, so dummy leads, lots of movement and then focused on defensive pressure, so Hogan doesn`'t blow his gasket and lose his position in the forward structure for when the new forward line pressure results in the ball quicking coming back to him... Its actually a great role for Frost and suits the new forward approach and attacking mindset.

tbh Im just guessing re OMac, not familiar enough with him to know...

I thought OMac progressed well over the NAB, his forward delivery in NAB 3 being miles ahead of NAB 1's miskicks... In the absence of GWS's big forwards, maybe he's quicker and more attacking than Dunn...?

I reckon Christian is so bursting with the desire to play after almost 18 month of pre-seasons and rehab, that Roo's is just ensuring he avoids the basketball, frisbee, and parkour for the next month... He hits me as a kid with a lot of energy..!

It was also the focus of Roo's speech at the Season Launch "... who am I? Habits." Will only serve these kids well.

If Trenners is playing BOG in the VFL, he's in the team immediately, not only because he'll have form and is quality, but because his presence WILL inspire his team mates and the MFC supporters... Can not wait to see it!!!

Given that we finished 13th last year, have just won 3 NAB cup games, had a solid preseason, improved game style etc... how does the Guardian crew justify having us finishing the same (13th) or worse? At least the Fox Footy Crew have us winning more this year than last... I think they're under estimating because they don't want to write off teams above us who would have to fall for us to rise, namely Tigers, North, Port, and Giants.

Was thinking about Collingwood's and Geelong's ability to attract experienced players from other clubs last trade season, and think that at the end of this season we should be in a similar position to target and attract specific experienced players to fill any holes in our team as we confidently contemplate serious finals action from 2017 on. It would appear to be the final stage required to push into the top 4... as shown by the recruiting of last seasons top 4. A lot riding on this year being a good one, in order for us to be able to do this. There's a wonderfull shift that happens as your team rises, where you switch from being the hunted to being the hunters.

Agree that Jacks set the tone, but Roo's is renown for preferring, recruiting and developing tough relentless tackling teams. Its great to see so many players tacking with relish, VB, Brayshaw, Jones and Oliver...

Be interesting to see a deeper analysis of where and how he's kicked his goals from, i.e. 0-20 metres out, 20-40 metres out, 40-60 metres out? On the run or set shot? Etc My feel is he's solid on the run 40+ metres out but struggles on his set shot 40+... but I'd just a guess.

Sorry PD, I really can't answer that without subjecting you to more"psychobabble"... and I'd hate to put you though that. Maybe its a loyalty thing and I'm just having a reaction to blind pie throwers having an ignorant crack at our maligned former captain. Its probably a question for you, what do you get out of peddling poorly informed, harsh judgements about a former captain, as facts?

Hey Skuit, it cool you believe that about Grimes and his potential (or lack of). I guess I see so many unknowns in what you're saying (about how Grimes is adapting to the evolved game style, about what role he's being trained to fill in this new style, and if he's doing well or not, etc...) that I am uncomfortable being as sure of his uselessness as you. I prefer to hold judgements until it's clear, let things play out with the pre-season and then settle over the first couple of months of the season proper, before stamping papers. Inevitably if he's not playing well enough he will be overtaken by players that are playing better. But I'd prefer to be patient, respectful and caring in that process, especially with a young man who's given his heart and soul to this club in trying times. Shitty times that were not of his making.
