    Do you mean when they stopped playing bottom 8 teams and started playing top 8 teams? predictably badly, given they are a mid table team. Are you trying to infer it was a result of Del Santo? Really

    I think if you look at the 2016 season our young team were cooked by round 21. Young players, soft bodies and minds, were done 6 weeks before the GF. We need to get tougher, more experienced while continuing to develop our kids... Nicky helps do that for a year or two.

    Oh... agree, he's been delisted by North, why trade... I am keen on him, contrary to some, I like the idea of us raising the bar with players like Del Santo coming in and making it more challenging for our young mids having to learn their craft at Casey and fight for a spot in the MFC seniors team. To my mind this helps breed a culture where to play for the MFC seniors is an earned privilege that is hard to get. It would also moderate the highs and lows produced by a predominantly young team.

    He'd make us a better team, win more football games, increase the chances of playing finals, etc ... Do you not think so?

    Currently we have picks 27, 45, 63, 81. Assuming we have 4 spots on senior list, we've already spent pick 27 on Hibberd, we use picks 45 & 63 in draft (upgraded if possible) then Del Santo comes in for what would otherwise be a pick 81 player... That hits me as a major bargain for a player of his quality and experience... and at the "expense" of a long shot development player.

    Dal Santo has always hit me as a very professional smart footballer who plays team footy. I'd have him in for a year, as our picks in this year's draft are poor (no first or second round - if Hibberd deal on) so filling a spot with a known talent is clever.

    So when did the "alleged" infraction occur? and why haven't the AFL protected the integrity of the 2016 Finals by ensuring it is resolved prior to now?

    This will sound stupid, but... "How does Lachie Whitfield get to play in an AFL final series when he's 1. suspected of intentionally avoiding a drug test for PEDs, 2. taken illegal drugs, 3. brought the game into disrepute...??? Weirdly it's been know about and "investigated" for much of this year, yet won't be resolved till after the finals... Blows my mind how corrupt and blind the AFL have become.

    So unfair that GWS have 5 picks up to pick 33... while finishing 5th with a team chock full of talent. Hate the way we're approaching our window just as the most artificially inflated team in the history of sport mature... It's gonna suck.

    If he's half decent, can ruck 30% and rest forward and snag a goal or two per week, he'd also free up Watts... which probably equates to another goal or two per week...

    I reckon we should all stay very quiet at this stage, we're only 1/2 way through our rebuild, hardly time for us to be getting gleeful at others expense... Many teams I'd prefer to implode before the Tigers. Eg. Hawks, Cats, Blues, Dons, GWS, ...

    I've always got the impression Jesse is both an emotional player (when he's on he's on, when he's off he's off) and not the most mature and experienced of young men, who may find he's not fully in control of his emotional state and it effect on his on field performance. I guess the point being there are other "emotional" reason for his mood other than the widely speculated (on here) view that it's because he wants to leave the MFC.. And I'd love to see "Out: Hogan (Broken Heart)" would be hilarious, and perhaps more honest if it were true.

    Another angle on Hogan is that he's a 20 year old young man, dealing with the challenges of relationships, living away from home, women, playing a relentless high performance sport, and did i mention it relationships. I know when I was his age and breaking up with my girlfriend my body language was pretty average too, and I would seek refuge at my family home , grandparents farm etc... all of which are unavailable to Jesse. He may stay, he may go, but irrespective he's deserving of our compassion and patience given the challenges he faces.

    I'd give Trenners another pre-season now his foots healed and he's played most of the VFL season (and finals to come) at a good level. If he's got another 10-15% improvement in speed and agility that can be accessed with a good injury free pre-season, he already has most of the other tools to be a good regular AFL player. And his effort to get back on field this year shows he has the fire and commitment.

    I think with Oliver there is a clear sub-text to his being dropped aside from the VFL eligibility aspect, and it's "work your ass off over the break, and hit the start of preseason at AFL level fitness."

    The new Finals bye will only help our chances, should we make it.

    The PURPOSE, the POINT and the REASON for playing AFL is to play FINALS, and give yourself a chance of winning an AFL PREMIERSHIP. Thats it. The future is a mirage we create in the present.

    Another aspect of this move by the MFC to get Hibberd is that it's saying "our window has now opened and we now want senior football ready recruits to finish our prep and polish us up for a tilt.".

    Should we make the finals we would have beaten the teams finishing 3rd, 4th and 5th... Hawks, Giants, Cats. Two of them in the last month.

    Like us the players will be investing in going forward, lifting their expectations and starting to think "we're in this", if we win through and North falter we're in finals!. Or actually... FINALs!!!!!

    Great result as it keep us in it and interested for the next two games... irrespective of the GWS result. Big character test for our boys to push through the next two games and put ourselves in the right spot if North stumble.
