They are too good. Expansion will bring them back somewhat. -

Hore’s ‘interaction’ with Marinoff has woken her up. Go Kate. -

Lots of pressure. Birch undisciplined, fumbly. Zanker has potential but her hands are not sure which is a pity. Hore has no leg speed and Crows defenders are all fast. Bannan’s marking was great wasn’t it. ‘Better forward of the ball’ says coach Mick. Have to agree. -
GAMEDAY: AFLW Preliminary Final vs Brisbane Lions
Meggs replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
BOM saying 10% chance of rain…well Meggs is feeling a few sprinkles already. It’s also quite blustery in here. Nothing like the Optus Stadium conditions of Round 9. ps the PA is most certainly working…. -
Should read: In: Zanker Out: Gillard
-
Having 2 out of form key forwards to cover will mess with the Bomber defenders’ heads. TMac and Weid to play well tonight. Attending 2 Dees games in less than 24 hours is messing with Meggs’. Hoping for 2 emphatic wins!
-
Why is Zanker named on the interchange and listed as an out. Subject to a fitness test? Gillard listed as an emergency….

Grapeviney, hopefully one coming up in a couple of weeks 🤞

Freo’s Jordan Clark kicked a super goal in Q2 which he started from halfback, followed up and finished beautifully. Hope he goes well and the Cats rue not playing him last year which may have precipitated his exit. Great away win by Freo. They have quite a bit of talent at Cockburn. A few early season injuries to negotiate but a 2022 improver for sure.

Meggs watched the game today. North would be disappointed. Scott Gowans was sacked as Roos coach and replaced by ex-North player Darren Crocker but Crock hasn’t really improved their list and the players don’t seem to be able to implement his game plan. A few players have improved this year such as star Ash Riddell, Brooke Brown, Daria Bannister and Mia King but North don’t have the across the board talent like we do. Meggs thinks signing Grace Campbell, a slow Richmond reject was a mistake. This years further expansion is going to make it ever harder for everyone. On the Covid delayed Coll v Bris final, Meggs is worried how this is going to impact our preparations. Is he just being a worry wart? Full strength Freo are a handful. Good luck Adelaide 😉 hope you fail Crows…cos won’t we get a home GF if we win our Prelim ?

Meggs finally getting around to watching the replay on Kayo and up to quarter time. He’s still a bit hoarse from lots of yelling on Wednesday night. But fmd, that flop and free to Weightman looks just as bad as it did on the night, atrocious decision.
-
Lots of very good young talent selected. Surely Alyssa Bannan's more mature recent performances must have had her in the selectors frame. She's only 19, huge upside. Conti from Richmond has really good footwork and disposal, Charlie Rowbottom from GC is exciting and Blues Maddy Prespakis goes alright too (plus her sis at Geelong looks the goods). In Finals Week 1 watch out for Brisbane's Hodder, a real livewire up forward, the Pies young mid Mikala Cann, Freo's Dana East who impressed against us and Daria Bannister from North who can take a good mark and kicks well.
-
Round 8 Crows defeated Freo at Fremantle Oval 25 to 16.
-
Yes, Shelley Heath was awesome and continues her very good season claiming another impressive assignment win over Georgia Gee. ps fingers crossed for Zanker, we desperately need her strength and dynamism
-
Yep
-
Gillard is 189cm and has experience as a Ruck so guess she will work in tandem with Lauren Pearce.
-
How long will Zanker’s quad keep her out? Hopefully not long. Replacement Gillard has impressed in her 2 games. Mick Stinear to do some shuffling. Maddie Gay to the midfield? Dees must win at Fortress Casey against the improving Blues this week to secure a top 2 position and a week’s rest. Even better if we improve our percentage above Adelaide’s. Linton St is a hellhole and not nearly as friendly as Norwood Oval, so who knows? Dees women to emulate the men and win the minor premiership. Dees by 17 points.
-
Wasn’t that awesome to watch. Stinear has our team playing exhilarating footy a la the boys, highly entertaining. Moving from Fremantle oval to Optus Stadium was a win for us, our skills in windless conditions excelled. Also Meggs wanted everyone to know that Freo had a few late withdrawals due to Covid as you may not have heard… Hoping Zanker is ok as we need her on ball and second ruck work. It’s either Scotty or Parry and Demonland prefers Shelley over Jacqui. West and Purcell have allowed Paxy to play wing and it works better. Our multi-faceted forward line has kicked the highest score on AFLW history. It will be our 2022 finals weapon! Collingwood to upset Adelaide tomorrow and we finish on top with a potential grand final at Casey…Meggs likes the sound of that. ps we still need to defeat Carlton next week at Casey Fields.
-
Isn’t Casey Fields the toughest road trip, we’ve won the last 12? Adelaide beat Freo at Fremantle oval last week and we won there in Round 8 last year but this game is at Optus Stadium, home of a recent and famous drought-breaking Demons triumph. If we have any designs on winning tonight we will need to be a lot tougher than we were against Adelaide at Norwood Oval recently. Meggs will be glued to the tv tonight and has high hopes for a supreme effort, loves the ins and reckons we can win.
-
Nice inclusions, Gaby Colvin and Megan Fitzsimon. We will give it a crack tomorrow!
