2004 was awesome until as Dr. Gonzo said, the wheels fell off. I remember the sense of excitement when we climbed to the top of the ladder for the first time in years, but it was all for nought. 1998 would have to be my favourite though. Sitting in the members watching us destroy the Crows was something special. What made it all the more exciting was that going into the season my expectations weren't high, as the previous season (my first as a supporter), we'd only won 4 games. It was also the first year of what was the Neale Daniher roller-coaster.

A little disappointing, but he's not really one to be concerned about as he's already tough as nails. Thanks for clarifying.

That's Deefence's opinion on who's his favourite. No need to criticize. Bail is very good to watch and I wouldn't be surprised if he's on some more top 10 lists in the coming years.

Started watching religiously in 1997 (probably one of the worst years to begin, haha) 1. Robertson- Maybe not the best team player, but was always a reason to go and watch the Dees, even if we were getting thumped week in and week out. Could stand on the shoulders of anyone in the competition to the mark of the year. 2. Yze- Could hit a target every time, and also had the ability to take the odd hanger or kick a beauty from the boundary. 3. Bruce- Was in the top few players in the AFL for a while. I wish he would have stayed a one club player. 4. Tingay- My first ever favourite player. Injuries ruined what could have and should have been an incredible career. 5. Neitz- Absolute champion of the club. I remember him kicking 4 goals in the first 10 or so minutes against the Swans in the early 2000s. 6. Farmer- I remember 'that mark' against the Tigers towards the end of 1998. He could change a game off his own boot. When he went to Freo I died a little inside... 7. Woewodin- That end to end 5 bounce goal against Port Adelaide in 1998, coupled with his 2000 Brownlow Medal season made him one of my favourites. 8. Jurrah- Do I really need to explain this one? 9. White- Incredible athlete and his goal vs. the Dogs that put us into the finals in 2005 is one of my favourite Demons memories. 10. Watts- I hope to see him rise to the top of this list in the coming years.

Although I think the first two elevated will be Nicholson and Magner, I wouldn't rule out Lawrence precisely because we need a small crumbing forward. That being said, I agree with the master in that performances in the NAB cup and lead up to the season will play a major role in this decision.

Very good read. I hope the players continue to embrace the new regime as it sounds like it could well lead us up the ladder.

Did Grimes have such bad injury problems before he was drafted? Or is it since he has joined the Dees?

I don't believe we have; at least not through the website. Surely we'd have to figure that out soon though.

Good luck to Juice. I hope he'll be successful for Norwood, he definitely has the talent.

I also read somewhere that Collingwood were looking at selecting him. If he can come in and contribute to the team I will be happy for two reasons. The first being obvious, and the second being that there is nothing better than beating Collingwood to the punch with selecting a good player (similar to when we got Jurrah).

There's more chance of Mr Scully eating him than the Scully's making sure that Cale "Phil's" up. What do you think happened to Tom's other siblings?

Looking at the Herald Sun article posted above, I'm guessing it's because of his apparent "inconsistency", "lack of urgency", and the fact that he "wasn't up to standard". Hopefully he has fixed these issues. The highlights video looks promising.

A few years ago my sister managed to get me passes into the rooms for after the game (Round 14, 2008-- the one when we upset Brisbane by a point with the lead changing several times in the last quarter). All the players parents were in attendance, and also in the rooms after the game. I was talking to Matty Warnock (who could talk the legs off a table), when Jimmy came past and said hello. I talked to him for about ten minutes, and he was clearly genuinely interested in having a conversation with a fan, despite all the other more important people that were there that he could have been talking to. I saw him go around to several other fans and do the same thing. I found this to be a great gesture of kindness from Jimmy. It probably would have been much more interesting or productive for him to be speaking with other people in that room, but he made the time to go up to the supporters and engage them in conversation. That's the type of guy he is: caring, compassionate, thoughtful. He is truly one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Not only that, but the way he goes about it is truly inspirational. His attitude throughout his illness has been unbelievable, especially considering the numerous setbacks he's had along the way. It's about time he had some good news.

Agreed. He also appears to be very good at shrugging tackles and getting rid of it quickly.

I tend to agree. I've gone a bit cold on old Zyrus over the last couple of weeks after hearing about his alleged severe homesickness. We also have an abundance of marking forwards but seem to be more in need of a couple of solid crumbers than anything else.
