Sorry to correct - it is a route that some are not prepared to provide for half the players on our list.
-
Nutbeans law - never pot a player under 23 yea......ahhh forget it ...
-
ahhh - could be - I'm just taking the statement made at face value
-
Fortunately - the similarity is that Hussey and Green havent been axed from either of their teams.
-
last time I looked Neeld was in charge of the whole shooting match and Im lead to believe he has had some success with a current midfield,
-
Im glad the club doesnt jump ship quite as quickly as you have on players - for the record - his poor season netted 37 goals - the 18th best in league - given that there are 6 forwards in each team - that places him in the top 18%. You may be right that his time is up but to say people are mindless defending him because of being too scared to face reality that he is past his best. - there is opinion and there is just wow and this falls into the category of just wow.

Bad call. There is a difference between indifferent form, being fumbly and not holding marks - and going missing from general play as opposed to being soft at the contest. I strongly disagree with him being soft at the contest. The worst example he set this year was not stepping up to the plate when he was most needed. ( he wasnt Robinson Crusoe in this regard)
-
Agree on 90% of what you say - The Junior situation was handled badly in as much as they should have made their intentions clearer earlier that he was not going to get another year. I still think the decision was right. I have no problem with the exiting of our other players like Miller, Wheatley, White, Robbo - in one or two of the cases I think the club could be accused of being slow to act on these players. We are fortunate that our club ( all clubs) dont operate as suggested by many on this site - "take it or rack off" - the conversations are a little more civilised than that with some give and take. The club did stick to their guns with Cameron Bruce and offer no guarantees past a one year contract and rightly so. Cam said the offer was disrespectful to him - basically that translates to " i am worth more years than you are offering" - sad but that happens. In Cam's case the money at MFC was much better than the Hawks - I fear he has rolled the dice and lost. Who knows what they will/have offered Brad Green. I think the point that needs to be clearly made is there are only problems with players when the player and the clubs expectations are not in alignment - of course there are always the ambit claims but one hopes that a middle ground can be reached. I agree that Brad has a lot to offer ( outside being a captain) and as an elder of the club if he can wind back the clock one year he can do acts that set an example for the group. I hope the club and Brad can reach an understanding.

This may be a tad inappropriate - but check out the B&F red Carpet video - that is Jordies sisters doing the interviews - whooda thunk ?
-
Obviously the love on this board and the club for Jordie is felt elsewhere as well !

If you dont want the MFC to be as you suggest "a lightweight club" then when we discuss what he has given the club the only thing we should be looking at is what he has given the club onfield. Many years of good service without ever taking the next step to the elite. A pearler 2010 season where he was unlucky to miss AA selection. An ordinary 2011 - not as bad as some might suggest but made infinitely worse due to his poor leadership and captaincy. So he is 30 plus and on balance absolutely deserves another contract - but like every other footballer on our list it has to be a contract that reflects his value to the club, his age and unfortunately in Brad's case it will reflect his poor 2011. And before slinging off that Brad Green has given more to the club than any of us. I think you may need reminding that he is PAID HANDSOMELY to give so much to the club as are all the footballers. ( and people are rightly questioning if he earned the money he was paid this year). We give to the club in terms of support each week, memberships and money when the tin is rattled. Many others give their time and services freely to the club - none of us here are PAID to do this. So no, Brad Green or any other footballer on our list has not given more to this club than the loyal supporters on this board. (grrr)
-
I dont think there is hate - there is just not a whole lotta love. I think people are get confused between his playing which was average and his leadership, which was much less than average. There is little doubt that if he walked from the club now he would be snapped up by another club in a heartbeat. He did not have a good year but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water. When we look at players like Yze, Robbo and white - you could see that the end was neigh. I dont feel the same way about Green - I think he has plenty to offer - just not as a captain
-
giggle - for what we are giving Collingwood I am surprised you didnt ask for Daisy Thomas and Pendlebury as well !
-
so you give Didak another year because he has played in a premiership ? that defeats part of your argument about earning a game. However I agree - dont just give the second year - it should be earned
-
Okay - without testing my fading memory - he showed patches of form in games this year reminiscent of 2010 year. I am on the record for favouring a one year deal with KPI incentives for a second year. Collingwood have been carrying Didak all year in the hope he will come good.
-
That he he turned down a Carlton contact ( it was actually Collingwood) should not be a factor as to whether he should be retained for 1,2 or 5 years. He should be offered a contract ( or not) because the people in know have a view as to whether he is value to the team or not.
-
That you noticed that Cameron Bruce wasnt playing really has zero to do with this discussion - CB and BG are two completely different types of players and fill two different roles - you may as well have thrown Chenney, PJ and Simon Buckley into the "not playing" statement as well. On this years form he hardly warranted a game with us but on 2010 form - He probably wouldnt get a game at Geelong ( Stevey J fills that role as the mid size forward) Collingwood and Hawthorn ? maybe...just maybe...In 2010 he was close to AA selection. So the question is - is 2011 an abherration or is it the start of a decline from which their is no coming back. I think we are being soured and swayed by his very poor performance as Captain and am hopeful under a new coach and having the mantle of captaincy removed from his, which obviously has not sat well with him, that he will return to some of his best 2010 form
-
Sorry - I think the comments are misguided. I do put most of last years return down to "form" ( and by the way - 31 goals from a small/mid forward who was out of form and was average at best in anyones language is not a bad return) Whether his body is up to it I cannot say but in congested style football Brad Greens style is exactly up to it. Greens main strength is the use of his body in marking. Yes his leading has always been good but he has never been quick - once he is in front he use of his body to protect the ball has always been his strength. He is a more than useful overhead mark for his size. His game style holds up very well. Happy to argue the point regarding if his body will hold up ( which I have no idea) or if his form will come back (I hope that when he "relinquishes" the captaincy that he will do so in good spirit and his form will return) however I think his game style is well suited to the modern football.
-
That is the main point and couldnt agree more.
-
a star ? nope ( a word too often bandied around) - solid this year ? yes. underrated - I prefer divides - , he certainly divides this forum a leader - not from what i have witnessed ( and see his interview post season with Wayne Carey to confirm his strengths as a leader)
-
hmmm - RS is in his thrid season - Col Garland missed his entire 3rd season although he was starting to show something at end of his 2nd season. Frawley was still pretty meh - playing 20 games but having lots of people on here wondering about his ability the same as they are question schoenmakers now - ( not me - I refuse to pot players under 23)
-
I like Riv and he has really good strengths but also a glaring weakness. Third man up or even running to a contest with his man he is fantastic - spoils well. Put any opponent of strength on him, isolate him one on one and plonk it on top of his and his opponents head and he will get outmuscled every time. Doesnt seem to possess any body strength. I cannot fault his commitment to the ball or contest - it is this one weakness that shows up him occassionally.
-
And did you see Frawley and Garlands game at the same age ? We keep falling into the same trap of potting under-developed juniors. The difference between Schoenmakers and Warnock is Warnock is still making the same errors at age 27.For Schoenmakers it is about experience and development to make him a better footballer
-
Good point - Take some responsibility for poor performances in the seniors - a little self analysis is in order.
-
Couldnt agree more and once again it is about negotiation - I look at the Bruce situation - one year or get effed - No problem. I would look at a fit and firing ( and captaincy free) Green in a different light and like the idea of incentives to trigger a second year.
