  1. Close. A coach has come in demanding professionalism and adherence from the players which has been noticeably absent for years. Some players have not realised that respect MUST be earned.(Nathan Jones has earned the respect of the coach)
  2. I stopped reading after this.
  3. What does it exactly prove ? Green was ready to retire from the MFC because he is well aware that there is a coach at the helm who will only play him if his form warrants it. He might entertain playing at GWS or GC because they have rolled the dice on players on their last legs (read Josh Fraser) and paid them big money in an attempt to get anyone over the age 20 into their team irrespective if they can still get a kick or not. As to forcing players to retire before the player wants to I say Bravo ! Here is a simple blueprint - ascertain if a player is value or not to the team - if he is he stays, if not he goes. 10 years service,Captains, B&F's,bleeding red and blue since birth, 5 minute stars don't enter the equation if you are no value to the team.
  4. This is going to be great - if perchance we win a game next year will any of the players actually know the club song ?
  5. Wash your mouth out with soap !!!! Saying Neita in the same breath as Robbie Flower. I ehhh...ohhh (fainted)
  6. If he went to GC or GWS he would go for big dollars we couldnt or wouldnt match - you would begrudge him why?
  7. Like Malcolm Blight at StKilda. I have no problem if he says I want to coach and goes to the highest bidder but I dont want anyone at the club who really wanted to do media but the money was too good to refuse coaching. Your heart is either in it or it isnt.
  8. Tim Watson played in the all powerful Essendon side. Paul Roo's played in mostly poor sides (the Swannies were just ok) Jezza was one of the greatest players ever who good at the Blues and horrible at StKilda Walls at the Bears ? Knights at the bears ? On this basis you wouldnt hire Neeld or Sanderson as coaches - both ordinary footballers. There is a vast difference between playing and coaching. There is a vast difference between being a great communicator as a Captain like Jonno Brown is and a captain who is not a great communicator but leads by example -Chris Judd (by all reports) and there is a huge difference between a great follower of plans and having the ability to formulate and implement them. We would have zero idea if Ling is a coach or not.
  9. They will definitely have all the variables listed and weighted to come up with a consistent approach to FA compensation exactly like the MRP has done when it comes to penalties.... (medic !!!! I shot myself in the foot)
  10. I'm not very smart but I can lift heavy fings.
  11. Interesting how we all suddenly become experts on Ling and knowing he can coach.
  12. To me the biggest thing that Misson will bring to the table in terms of fitness is a noticeable change in our ability to push up defensively. We are lacking in fitness and it is noticeable in our attempt to shut down teams and push up. It is so apparent in the difference between us and any of the top four teams.Locking teams into zones requires fitness which we do not have at this stage.
  13. We have so little idea of what is and isn't said. Who is and isn't being poached. I recall on footy confidential that Garry did indeed ask Ross Lyon's status and Kelly said he is not moving. Would you suggest that Kelly would not pass this interest onto Ross Lyon? Conversely it was so strongly rumoured that we were into him, even if we hadn't made an approach and Ross Lyon was half interested (considering his well documented financial plight) you would think that Kelly (or Lyon directly as he did wtih Freo) may have made some phone calls. Since we all love unfounded and unproveable speculation I'll add mine. When Ross Lyon heard of the Dee's interest he was already hatching the exit to Freo. So his choice was a bucketload of money with Freo or a bucketload with us. I think you can make some assumptions on Ross Lyons thinking without much help from me.
  14. Garry to Ross's Managment: "how would Ross like to come to the Dee's" Ross's Management: " no" Garry to Ross's Managment: " but really .... Ross to the Dee's ?" Ross's management: "no" Garry to Ross's Managment: " come on .... Ross ? Dee's ?" Ross's management: "oohh.well..when you put it that way...where does he sign ? "
  15. Rumour has it that he has fallen on hard times since he is no longer chief footy writer for the HUN and he picked up the MFC tie circa 1986 (did you notice the royal blue?) from St Vinnies.
  16. I see your fyfe and raise you a Matthew Lappin
  17. I supported the theory we won out with pick 11 for McLean but I put the disclaimer in then and will repeat it now.McLean for that high draft pick was a good trade - McLean is not worth that pick 11. Our mistake (if he is delisted/traded and turns out to be a dud) was that we subsequently used the pick on Gys. The trading for a pick and the use of the pick are and were two different actions. If Carlton was given the opportunity to get rid of Brock at $400K and got pick 11in return they would do it in a heartbeat as we did back then.
  18. Ben- I dont subscribe to body build being a sign of laziness or poor culture. Some just cant put on weight. Even being slow is sometimes something that can only slightly be remedied. The line that really resonated with me though is "One is committed to being the best he can be..." Nathan Jones lives that for me - sometimes not quick enough by hand or in the mind but his committment to being the best and striving to improve cannot be questioned.
  19. Is it ? Really ? A coach's job is to provide strategies /game plans and yes to teach them better ways and that includes developing who strive to perform. And yes, a certain amount of motivating. But I have had a gutfull of this cop-out "it is up to the coach to get players to perform".No siree -it is up to a player to get himself to perform. If you need a coach to get you to perform then you are not a professional sportsman. Saying you need the coach to get players to perform is a lazy [censored] cop-out.
  20. Whilst I am not referring to Maric in particular - the problem is that most draft picks are selected at about the "right" pick (and yes, you can healthily debate that Cook, Gysbert, Maric and I think Strauss were taken too early). Problem is that the right pick is based on TAC form and there are some that just dont kick on. I just find it hard to fathom that we have failed in nearly every one of our high draft picks. I agree that some of our selections have been poor but I also believe that our setting of the bar has been low in terms of expectation and demands and thus our development has been a fail also.
  21. We are getting pilloried by the press (rightly so) and we should also be thick skinned and not listen to every bit of tripe that the media writes or says but we did get some (more) negative publicity about Liam leaving and how we didnt necessarily do the right things by him when my understanding (and what rude boy said ) is the opposite is true. I liked what Rudeboy wrote - problem is I would have liked it to come out of Liam's mouth. I just don't think what I and a lot of others would like is a stretch.
  22. not sure about closing the thread but I do love the words - feculent turd- and will now use it in common parlance as often as possible. Edit- hardtack - looked up feculent and it is sort of a given- a turd by its nature cannot be anything but feculent. Having said that - still love it and gonna drop it into conversation as often as possible
  23. Tom Cruise! Now you are getting nasty!
  24. Because in the cold light of day - Liam has involved himself in matters outside football, cost the football club large sums of money in terms of support both legal and otherwise and been given latitude that we probably have not seen given to a player before. He has now decided after all this that he cant stay in Melbourne and has left the club and in return we receive diddly squat - except word from his manager that Port have been in contact with him. Again, do not misinterpret the above as lack of understanding or lack of sensitivity over the issues of enormous cultural differences and community problems that exist. I understand all that. However Liam has been given and taken a great deal from our club and simple recognition of that would not go astray. Brent Moloney who recently said he wanted to remain a Demon and in all probability was shown the door thanked the club for the 8 years- its not hard.
