  1. With all this talk of delisting/trading Gys, Cook, Petterd and Moloney being allowed to leave and how it will bite us inthe bum big time, who was the last footballer we (gladly) traded/delisted that has actually bitten us hard ? The only one I can think of is Darren Jolly. There was also a good fullback we drafted from Perth or Adelaide that played a year or two in the seconds and then went home to have a very good career but his name escapes me. We drafted Darren Jarman but he didnt want to come across to us. Of course RDB to Carlton sucked big time. I have excluded Scott Thompson and Jeff Farmer as I think we would have preferred to keep them but the go home factor was very big. Anyone else come to mind ?
  2. I I'll bite - what's a "slight" rumour ? A rumour may have somewhere from a little to no substance and slight rumour has less than no substance ?
  3. Thats my take as well - there are certain on here who post that they have "heard" or "spoken with someone" and you take that to the bank as those words are not typed frivilously - lots of others I dismiss by scrolling to the next post.
  4. I have no idea if Pedro (gone all Mex on ya!) can play but I 100% get the strategy. Whether he is a success or failure it is guaranteed that he will be ready to go round 1. A later draft pick, especially a 190cm plus in all probability, you have to wait a minimum of 2 years plus to see anything worthwhile - Howe (who was more mature anyway) only started to show this year. So the decision is to give a draft pick away for someone who is ready to go now against drafting someone we have to wait for (huge disclaimer that both the mature age player and the newbie could both be great successes or big spuds).
  5. I mispoke - unfulled reality is an oxymoron (as opposed to me who is just a moron) - simply put - its indicators of what could be but not necessarily what will happen.
  6. yyikes ! How about this. Potential is unfulfilled reality. You can potentially be a worldbeater or you can potentially be the biggest spud god put breath into. You need to fast forward a defined period (and hopefully has seen some progress) to ascertain if the potential materialised. The reality comes down the track. I hate potential as I have seen it, smelled it and lived it for far too long with this club and it has amounted to bupka's.
  7. So players are sick of coaches ? is that how this game should work ?? I quite like your insulting school boy analogy for Neeld because it fits in well with how Moloney played all year - like a petulant school child. And I have got a feeling that Dawes may have some inkling of what Neeld is like.
  8. not sure about Rodan but would certainly make a big play for Mothra (although I think he may be going to Adelaide under the F/S rule -his dad being Tony Mothra)
  9. So if they are moved on, is it the coaches fault that the best is not good enough or the players - my argument has always been that the players gets far too much of free ride and the coach usually gets the blame for players "not good enough". Prime example is Royal getting it in the neck that he cant coach because of our poor midfield - yet Nat Jones won our B&F and was rated top 50 in the H&S where he wanst previous seasons (someone on here put up the convincing argument that it was all due to Neeld not Royal....pffft)
  10. and I share this view too.
  11. 100% agree that as a professional athlete he needs to tick all the boxes preparation and fitness wise - on that we both agree The young guys need to be taught what it takes and learn about the game from the people we employ to do so- on that we both agree If they're unwilling they get moved on.-thats the big one on which we both agree but our definitions maybe different - players that work their tail off and do what their coaches say, in the main, will have some semblance of success-be it turning into a star or an honest plodder that plays a roll for the team. Attitude, willingness to be fittest and the desire to be the best the player can be are something that comes from within each player and if any of these attributes are missing it is the players failing not the coach.
  12. His job is make strategic decisions on and off the field, tactical decisions and game plans. Coaching and teaching them to be better player is a big part of the job. But it is incumbent on the players to do what you expect of Neeld - roll up the sleeves and present in the best physical condition, do the work required to make the most of the teaching. People are far to forgiving on players and confuse the coaches and players responsibility. Moloney said in an interview that he did not want to be at the MFC this year. That is HIS fault not the coaches. Footballers are paid big bucks and for this they need to have some "skin in the game"- be responsible for their form. edit- FWIW - I think he is a keeper and would like to see what a completely injury free preseason would yield
  13. I have neither been critical or complimentary of JG but I am damning of this post. No, it is not up to Neeld to coach a player into form and confidence - it is up to the PLAYER to play with form and confidence. When a player is out of form and confidence do we simply blame the coach because its too much work for a footballer to actually take responsibility for his efforts and form ????
  14. no no...Royal and Greaves are selectively bad coaches - bad for Gysberts and Moloney but good for Jones, Howe and at times McKenzie( where they alternated between good and bad). I know I am boring and repetitive but the biggest copout for lazy, underperforming or sooking footballers is to blame the coach.
  15. flakfarkflux we are getting some flack from some posters over the sheer quantity of recycled players we are looking at bringing in
  16. its a min-flux thats a mini influx
  17. yeah....but he also aggravates the shite out of me
  18. I cant commit to a time to take the bus as I am still waiting for Jack Watts to arrive on the scene.
  19. I have been living in the country of Potentialville for almost 20 years I have been granted permanent citizenship - I used to live in the little township of Newtonfield but recently moved to South Petterdton - Whilst I have lived in Potentialville for many years I must say that the actuality hasnt lived up to all the hype and I am considering a move to Realitytown where they greet you with a slap in the face with a large trout and the national anthem is "get busy or get stuffed".
  20. Stef Martin couldnt get into our best 22 and look where we finished !
  21. ewww
  22. Ben Hur - "Martin is a very athletic gumby" Now THAT made me laugh
  23. a wee bit off topic - Robbie F retiring made me tear up big time - just thought he would go on forever.
  24. Trevor Barker would become Andy Moir's [censored] (4 screamers maketh a career not)
  25. how about Moloney ? (stupidest thing I have posted but not the dumbest thing I have seen on here)
