Again, take the compo pick 27-30 off the table - it will be more than that - Bulldogs offered 21 and the Pies can tell Dawes it is doggies or no-one. I can see the likes of Petterd or even Martin being offered up but I am thinking that in the end we will give up 20 and get something else back in return if a player is thrown in (especially if it is Martin) Edit- also we have already offered pick 20 - but you think we have had a change of heart and now only going to offer up 27-30. Really ? If aint purely 20 there may be a player thrown in and maybe or maybe not a later pick coming back to us.

Petterd is probably a delist so throwing him into the deal costs us ...ummm...nothing. $500K contract - sounds about right. Petterd a star at Collingwood- if he is a star at Collingwood good luck to him and damn his eyes for being a pretender at Melbourne.

The only two I can definitely recall is Aaron Davey and Cam Bruce whose last contracts were in total over $500K per season.

I had a man crush on Ron Barrassi from an early age and used to sit in my jammies watching the Ron Barrassi footy show on theTV. I got given for my 5th Birthday a pair of rubber Ron Barrassi footy boots - so freakin uncomfortable and downright dangerous if you walked on concrete in those things (having kick to kick on the road) - it was worse than being on ice skates. I was 7 when Barrassi went from Melbourne to Carlton. When you are 7 you change your teams like you change your underwear (twice a week). But did I go to Carlton as a package deal with Barrassi in 65' ? ohhhhh no....What the hell is wrong with me - I would have seen multiple premierships, salary rorting of the highest order and become even more arrogant. On the last years of their contracts we were paying more than that to Cam Bruce, Brad Green and Brent Moloney.We are paying more than that currently to Aaron Davey. Based on that sliding scale Dawes should be paid more than Judd at Melbourne.

This has always been my point- its the one thing we really cant see away from the training track or over the fence on match day. To me he appears to have a decent bag of tricks but I am getting the vibe (albeit from whats written on here) that the hunger may not be there.

Just for those who are talking picks way over pick 20 -you do realise that the doggies offered pick 21.Dawes is contracted and Collingwood can say you go where we say or you dont go.

I mark Colin Sylvia harder than any other MFC footballer because with his god given talents he should be consistently a top 10 footballer in the AFL and a star and to date, besides the odd cameo confirming this, he has yet to break into the top 100.

I may be going against the trend (although many here are happy to get Dawes). I am a huge fan - his work ethic is something we sorely need. The cross on him this season is he wasnt taking marks like the seasons before but he chases, tackles, harrasses, presents, shepherds and block. A lot of good stuff that sometimes doesnt really hit the stat sheet. I will be happy nutbean when this deal is done.

I would normally agree but some of the stuff written here really tests the validity of that statement.

I fully understand the strategy - our biggest problem has been that we have been bereft of any leaders in the mid age range to help us nuture through our young talent. It pretty much says it all the Moloney, Davey, Green and Rivers were all left out of leadership group. Mitch comes to our club with some age and leadership and wow ! So whilst I dont want to pick up players for the sake of it Neeld is obviously looking to bring in some levels of maturity to help ease the pressure off the 20/21 year olds.

Chris Dawes is no 31 at Collingwood - hmmmm (a now cursed number if you ask me !)

This I agree with - I have been burned one too many times - quietly optimistic but definitely withholding judgement until I see some proof positive.

Do you watch Dawes play ? chasing, harrassing and forward pressure is his forte - his form slumped this season as he couldnt clunk a mark like he was the previous two seasons but his off ball efforts were still very strong.

The thing that I like about Dawes is his hunger for contest - even when not taking marks he is tackling, chasing, contesting, shepherding. He didnt stop doing these things this season- he just wasnt clunking marks like the previous two years. (Excepting Clark) we have a similar type of footballer at the MFC called...ummm... called ...ummm..ok -we just dont.

I'll challenge you again - at the end of the draft period gives us an assessment of where you think we have gone wrong or right (and who you would have taken instead) in this draft so you cant be a hindsight genius in two years time
