WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
nutbean replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
And made double worse as the obvious has not been spelt out. Why is 10 years ago insignificant to now ? Ablett and Watson were used as examples of us being bent over because they were picks in the 40's. Prior to 2007 when these two were taken under the father-son rule the rule was completely different. The reason that Ablett and Watson were taken in the 40's is you only had to give up a 3rd round draft choice to secure a father son. -

See - this is what I find fascinating. We rip into recruiters for getting it wrong but collating what we all think here, we get expert (hmm) opinions ranging anywhere from worth pick 3 down to 21 at best. -
Watching him (and yes I read what you wrote) I wasnt shocked about his size -I was shocked by how exhausted he looked after every effort.
-
I dont think it is 100% about physical/weight but about fitness - I was surprised how skiny Gunston is. There is an issue with Gysberts frame but more of an issue of him looking like he is going to have a coronary 5 minutes into the first quarter.

huh? Alright I am not too smart but we have pick #3,#4 and #13. Doesnt matter if they are compensation picks, dispensation picks or constipation picks. Whatever the highest bid for Viney is, we have to match or walk away ? We give one pick for one player. Can you explain what is not fair? -

This chest beating by other clubs reminds me of the chest beating we did around Ball. I remember before the draft us saying "we don't care if Ball wants to go to Collingwood only ,we will look seriously taking him before Collingwoods pick". and we ...... passed. I dont believe GWS or GC would risk us backing away from Viney by making us bid up to no 3 if they are not going to be happy with getting Viney at no 1 or 2. -
Also shows that we only see the 25% visible aspects of leadership - what our eyes witness on the groundon game day. We know nothing of the talk, encouragement, education and even chastisments on the ground, before the game, in the rooms and after the game.We have little visibility as to what they are doing during the week at training and even in social circumstances. In short we have little insight into the whole leadership window.

My pet hobby horse - "values" . Values and behaviours go hand in hand but as you 100% rightly alluded to, values are meaningless words that look pretty on a poster unless they are backed up by clear, precise and defined behaviors. Trying to measure someone against a value of "Passion" is a fluffy nonsense if you dont define what behaviours to expect when assessing the value "passion" (i.e extra training sessions to improve weaknesses, being extra vocal on the track and on the field, wave the flag on the field when a team-mate goes down..etc)

Herald Sun reports Gysberts to be shown the door...Neeld has gone mad!!!
nutbean replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am happy in the knowledge that I am comfortable Neeld & Co know better than me,what is required to get us up the ladder. I wouldnt get rid half of the players mooted but I am certifiably coward and love all players not matter how big a spud half of them are. I am not objective - I believe that Neeld and Co are. -

The "fabric" is flea bitten and rotten so I have no problem with ripping it. The IF is also spot on and time will if Neeld and co's no prisoner approach will bear fruit. However "there's an old saying,if you keep doing things the same way, you're going to get the same results"- John Galusha Hands up who is sick of doing (and accepting) the same things and getting the same results. I certainly am. -
Aaron Davey reconsidering his position at Melbourne
nutbean replied to Brayshaw Self's topic in Melbourne Demons
I blame the guy getting paid.I have seen too many players, Aaron included that have big final years of their contracts and get a nice beefy new contract and fail to deliver in the following years. You could almost pick the last year of Trappers contract as his output lifted dramatically. A player earns a hefty new contract based on current performances and I expect the same level of performance as the ones which caused a rather large jump in his salary in his new contract. -

And to depress people even further Malthouse said it took 5 seasons to get the players playing exactly as he wanted. -

You see...this is why you leave people gobsmacked. So sacking Neeld 1 year and 5 matches would send a terrible message but 1 year and 7 matches would be fine ? We have been a basketcase on field because of our players and a series of coaches have comfortably taken soft options and had modest expectations. We finally have a coach who is prepared to say that modest expectations are not acceptable and surprise surprise-certain players dont like it ! I got caught up in Bailey's message " they are still young, they are still young". Neelds message to me is "we are young and inexperienced but that doesnt excuse you from working your butt off and trying to execute the way I teach you". I for one would not delist or trade Cook but I back the coach to have discussions with his assistants and the players themselves and decide if they are up to the challenge to be the best they can be.If he deems that he sees nothing in Cook that gives him any hope for the future then thats good enough for me. I beg the board not to accept membership money from softcocks who want to back players who arent happy with a coach who makes demands. (actually not necessary as they are usually on here saying "I am never buying a membership again"). Three cheers for a coach who says to the membership, the players will either commit to being the best they can be ( which takes a lot of hard work - something half of them wouldnt know about) or there's the door. -

no no no...Some Demonland posters are so unhappy with Nasher that we are begging the board to fire him. Isn't that the way it works? (tongue firmly placed in side of cheek) -

Neeld should show some respect. The story hasnt come out of thin air. Its come out of Demonland. The air here is thick and I don't like what I'm smelling. -
