THE WILSON FILE - the arrogance at the heart of the innuendo
nutbean replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
If they really have our computers I think we have more to worry about than tanking - its the finding of the happy snaps from 30 years of end of season footy trip that really worries me ( Nathan Carroll - I would start checking on the statute of limitations if I was you and Brock - if they find your photos it will be karma biting you on the arse) -
I dont give a toumpas what he was recruited as - I have a long memory and remember Gary Ayres first 4-5 season - they had no idea where to play him and they finally threw him to the back pocket and voila.... Its sort of like saying - i dont care how successful Trent Croad played down back in his time at Freo and last time round at the Hawks - he was recruited as a forward so dammit - thats where he has to succeed. Tarrant the same. I dont care where he shines as long as he shines.

You want to factor nationality profiling into your draft decision - now I have heard everything. Probably a good reason why we didnt take NikNat, what with his bloodlines. (sheesh)

in the 2030 - Col sylvia still retained on the veterans list - if he can get a decent preseason under his belt he could be anything

I'm moving from Gippsland to Oakleigh so I can boot Tynan out and ship Toumpas in. -
Jnrmac may have been forward in his assessment of Col - but he is the most frustrating player on our list because in my opinion he is undoubtedly the most talented yet has only ever given us glimpses. We cant keep using excuses of "a full preseason" or " a decent midfield around him". Every year we hear the same thing - this could be Colins year - to date there hasnt been a "Colins year" and I wont put money on this being one coming up either as i have been burned too many times

Doesnt two out of the first three totally shoot your argument to shreds ? Mitch Clark wanted to go home so badly that he got half way to Perth and ran out of puff Kurt Tippett wanted to go home desperately except when he realised it was Brisbane he desperately wanted to go to someone elses home called Sydney. Brown and Stevens couldnt get a game with their respectives and that can have an effect on wanting to stay interstate. I stand by the comments that very few interstate players actually go home but do agree that free agency will make it easier. Free agency also will see more movement of mid tier players. -

with the amount of players from interstate, the go home factor is still pretty rare these day. I just dont see it as an issue. When you can absolutely not split two footballers you would consider it but to the uneducated ( that's me) on rankings from people who know much better than me, Toumpas is the more complete footballer. (Also I do like the way you compared Wines to Dustin Martin but Toumpas to the biggest peaheart playing the game, Gibbs - why not compare Wines/Martin and Toumpas/Cotchin or Delidio ? Maybe you should compare Wines/Moloney -

You are really scratching to prove a point bringing up Nathan Basset (woof) - drafted as a rookie and played a total of zero games over 2 years - couldnt get upgraded in 97 when we finished 16th and then upgraded in his second year but injured for the second half of the year and we finished fourth - I think I would have gone home to Adelaide too. -
silvagni further elaborated " We have a fair idea of who we want to select with our first three picks but a lot is dependant on who is left for us to select from - our strategy has always been to do our part to make this non story a really really non story non story"

toumpas (i'll stop now...toumpas)
-
I voted Toumpas purely because I like saying the word "toumpas" Toumpas...Toumpas... I've got a sore toumpas. I got kicked in the toumpas and it hurt like hades. I dont give a flying toumpas. Fun to say and versatile.

There is always good motivation from wanting to perform well and reap reward but I also wouldnt underestimate what a no holds barred, take no prisoners, massive clean out can have on attitude - " I need to take my attitude and game to a whole new level or next year it will be me" -

You conveniently skipped over the part where I said it was obvious he would be picked in the first two and used the ridiculous pick 20 example. I'll cut you some slack and suggest he could have even have slipped through to pick 5 - would your expectation of him be any less ?? To take your argument to its logical conclusion that JW hasnt lived up to expectation of a top draft pick but it is BP fault for making him a top draft pick is a nonsense. His pre AFL performances dictated that JW would be a top draft pick so if you are unhappy with his form to date then there is only person to blame. BH is a vocal critical of JW but the only person he blames is JW. -

My views on Watts are well documented but this comment above is a giant cop-out. Watts was always going to go number 1 or 2. So if he has not met your expectations man up and blame Jack Watts not the recruiter. If an expectation is reasonable and has not been met then the only person to blame is the player himself. -

Fan, I was going to say you are sending me mixed messages, but on reflection I really think you are sending me polar opposite messages. Edit - I agree wholeheartedly with the second post of yours I have highlighted and that is exactly the influence I am talking about and why it is important for her to be held to task on her reporting and stop presenting opinion, innuendo, supposition and in some cases downright falsehoods as facts. -

I am a fence sitter (again!!!) on the Watts issue - too young for me to call yet, can see the deficiencies, can't guarantee they will go away, hope they do. But ...................... One thing Neeld has made abundantly clear is that no-one is here to stay and the players better get used to it. He is a man of limited patience and it is even more limited if you dont display certain attributes that are vitally important to him. -

I would suggest Fan is wrong - anyone here who thinks Caro is not a respected journalist - think again - she is well respected and thats what makes what she is writing all the more galling. She is taken notice of and can set the agenda through her writing. -

You seem to be blissfully unaware of the power of the press. There is nothing more dangerous than when agenda's, opinion, assumptions and postulating are presented as facts. Whilst what is going on is not exactly earth shattering compared to events on the world stage I am losing count of the conversations around footy and the tanking issue I am having where my friends are debating me with concrete FACTS - Caroline Wilson's version of concrete facts. One word has been notoriously absent from all but her last article and that is the word "alleged/allegedly". Throws a completely different light on an article - it takes it out of the realms of fact and it becomes supposition. Greg Denham is a goose and nobody takes him seriously - never have - never will. On the other hand Caroline Wilson is well read, is repsected and is taken notice of and it does not do justice to her or her profession for her writings to be opinions masquarading as facts.
