  1. I acknowledge that in general terms Caro breaks a lot of stories. My issue with her reporting on the MFC issue is she has presented very little of her opinions as opinions. She has presented a whole lot of her opinions, assumptions, snippets of untested truths and the words of a player with credibility zero as FACT. She has not editorialised - she has factualised with little facts.
  2. Its a horrible stat - inside midfielders get crueled by it as they are always getting possies in tight and need to dispose quickly and that can impact the number. To me a backman's disposal efficiency ( especially since most teams play the extra man down back) should be better than an inside midfielder.
  3. All the best Barts - 100% at every contest...
  4. Goddard was still ordinary in season as a 21/22 year old and many Saints fans calling for a trade
  5. Alex Perry rates up there with Caroline Wilson in my "not much liked" list
  6. I was an ology poster and it took me about 2 years before I posted here for the first but was an avid reader.
  7. Instead of seeing what Neeld has done with the baby as a minus, i'll give you this quote. W. L. Bateman - If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got. No baby, no bathwater just a recognition that we needed big change to what we have previously accepted and done.
  8. I have known every single answer straight away. But I am tanking for early draft picks in the next quiz.
  9. Peter Pan drafting works when you have some wiser older heads to guide them and be role models/mentors as to what it takes to be a top class professional footballer - sadly.....
  10. You mean like best mates Scully and Blease ?
  11. I would have thought that AD would have told the commission - too much heat from the media - the investigators have got to go do this - they will hear lots of innuendo, assertions and scuttlebutt but will come back with nadda hard evidence - we have done what we have to do and now we all get on with life and catch those damn salary cap cheats.
  12. I still think this is a big show for us the viewing public... Big bad AFL goin to slap down any pesky varmint that brings them their game into disrepute ( thats pronounced dis-rep-putee). MFC hire a gun with leather chaps and big cohuna's to show we aint to be messed with. Investigation concludes on evidence available that proving tanking is impossible. Big Bad Finkelstein fades into the sunset without firing a shot. tumbleweed floats across screen. End of story.
  13. I find this so hard to believe.....that you actually ever liked his show..
  14. There are some pretty smart boys on the AFL commission and they are sitting around the poker table with the following cards in their hands One card is "no player was told not to perform" Another card is a fudgy to non existant definition of tanking The next card is lots of heresay, tongue and cheek and innuedo but little of substance The last card is practices that have been highlighted which at least 6 other clubs have practiced for generations and would mean that if they take MFC on they need to take on others. Sitting across the poker table is Slick Finkelstein who the AFL know is holding a hand of "bring down a bad verdict on the flimsy stuff you have got in your hand and be prepared for this to go horribly legal". Hmmm - make an example ? you got to know when to hold em and know when to fold em...example ? I think not....I'm thinking fold em.
  15. I think this is as much about dick waving as it is about legal process. I think it sends a clear message to the AFL that you can profess to be an autonomous, self governed body all you like but if you think for a nano second that you can deliver a verdict of guilt on evidence that wouldnt stand up in a court of law with 8 tonnes of concrete supports then think again. It sorta like having a 6'7" muscled, toothless bouncer out the front of the night club - he doesnt need to throw a punch - no-one is silly enough to take him in on.
  16. I giggled when I read the Jon Ralph article. I imagined the conversation. AFL source to Jon Ralph "no mate, the investigation won't wind up before this years draft". Later ... Editor to Jon Ralph, "what did your source say?" Jon Ralph to Editor "no penalties for this draft but boy, oh boy are they in trouble for the next draft". As suspected: - step one - no report before this years draft - check - step two - lots of shuffling papers and official looking interviews conducted by AFL and media taking it all in = "ohhhh big trouble" - check - step three - legal heavy hired by the MFC just to reinforce to the AFL that this should go away - check - step four - report handed down during bush fire/tidal wave/snap election week- finding of insufficient evidence to conclusively prove that tanking within the AFL definition actually took place - stand by ...
  17. Im more thinking that AFL are looking very closely to find a way to walk away from this. I could be well off base, but if what has been reported is all there is then I am thinking that the AFL wants this to go away or I believe we would have heard "we the AFL, see problems with what has transpired at the MFC but we need to extend this investigation to include what has happened at other clubs over a period of time" I believe that the AFL investigator is looking very carefully at the MFC so he can thoroughly and professionally close this thing down.
  18. I won't defend CW or any of the other journo's but I also cant help thinking that part of this is nothing more than journo's desperate desires to keep the flames burning ( and to fan flames where none exist) to give them something to write about.
  19. I would like a top ten pick that we can say in a year or two..."we got him at pick 4 but gee hasnt he performed better than that !" dont care who it is....
  20. I haven't seen hate here. The sad truth is that Ricky - like others - for whatever reason - had a number of years to establish himself and all we got was the occasional glimpse of talent.
  21. Love it ! I am the hardest on Col of any player on our list simply because he has all the tools ( talent-wise) to be in the top 10 footballers in the AFL and for the length of his career has yet to be in the top 200.
  22. If she is relying on a player as "telling evidence" then she is in a lot of trouble with her story. The only constant ( including Brock McLean) is the line that the coaches never told any players to lose or not to try. Therefore if that is the case that the players knew "what was going on" is rubbery at best. If she had a coach on record as saying "we went out to lose game" then I would be worried but the only damage a player's story can do is if the player's story was that he was told not perform.
  23. No need to worry about him going home in 3 years. The 3 year reference was to the world ending according to the Mayan calendar NOT him going back to WA. Everyone rest easy.
