  1. good lord.. a feared forward line based on a footballer who hasn't played a senior game yet and a footballer we haven't drafted yet...
  2. After this years draft they have implemented a height restriction ?
  3. funny this conversation should move to skinny vs solid kids and Luke Hodges name is mentioned. When he was drafted his nickname was Luke Podge.
  4. give.me.fat.kids.
  5. The one constant that I am delighted with is Roos steadfast theme that these picks are not the instant saviors of the club and need to be allowed to develop ( and last year we put development plans in place to nuture these kids and further reinforced it with the addition of BM for next season) For us to drive up the ladder we need to put pressure on the likes of Tyson, Howe, Watts. McDonald, Viney and others to improve. You can name anyone you like but they need to have been in the system for a while. Even expecting sub 22 year olds with so few games to be our saviors (Viney and Tyson) is a big ask but we are bereft of talent at the mature end of our list. I like what I saw from Salem and JKH last year and I deem their year as a success - I want to see them improve but I don't have the expectation that these boys will be a huge factor in our improvement. I want to see signs from our new draftees and that includes Hogan but I don't expect them to any better than Salem and JKH were this year - if they are then it is a massive bonus.
  6. I absolutely want to take De Goey for no other reason other than I love saying De Goey. De Goey ( insert Peter Griffin laugh here)
  7. Roos stated that he is merely a consultant and leaves the final decisions to the recruiting team. Whilst I am not entirely sure I believe that, taking Roos at face value maybe this exactly the same stance he took at the Swans as well.
  8. I hate getting busted apology accepted,,,,
  9. agree 100% Interestingly though - I posted earlier on Petracca - he has trouble hitting a target in his highlight reel - and the reel is meant to be a best of !
  10. To quote Al Pacino "just when I thought I was out they pull me back in again" (PF - I know it was you...you broke my heart...you broke my heart)
  11. opinions are fine - and I won't repeat the argument again if you promise not to use terms like "research" and "no brainer".
  12. And yet you trumpet McCartin. Do you not understand the logic of the argument ?? At draft time Toumpas was considered at top 4 pick At draft time McCartin is considered at top 3 pick I am not for a minute suggesting McCartin won't make it - but as it stands now he could be Wines or a Toumpas and I am amused by your "insane love".
  13. I re-read your Newton post and you are correct "I hope we are NOT one of the clubs interested, However would love him to go somewhere else and play good footy, would put egg on a few faces around here!" That is just plain bizarre - you want him to succeed but just not at our club. You want him to succeed so you can stick it up other posters ? If we draft McCartin then good. If we draft Lever or Laverde then good. I just can't follow anyone's blind faith in an untried under 18's become great footballers when every indicator tells us that whoever we pick, there will be someone better we should have picked.
  14. I am not saying you are right or wrong on McCartin what I am saying that the one proven fact is that the ratings pre draft are never right two years down the track and all the descriptions in the world is just guessing. Skinny Laverde or knee reco lever could turn out to be inspired choices. I just love the way posters are so sure of their favourite picks when experts who watch week in and week out for a living get it soooo wrong with continuous monotony.
  15. You wouldn't have taken Judd ?
  16. I have no idea who to take - but what I do know is your description of McCartin as ready made competitive beast looks ok in an under 18 competition but what about next year in the big league ? As a midfielder I think we need "a class act; a humble, hard-working player able to cut teams up with his skill and scoring ability". That is Emma Quayles description of Jimmy Toumpas. He may well turn out to be that way but hows the description looking two years in ?? If we want versatile big man how about this guy ? " A centre half-forward who can also play key defensive post. Reads ball in the air better than most. Endurance for a big man is first class so covers lots of ground and could be groomed to replace Jonathan Brown" This was description of Lucas Cook!! ( the Brown reference is Jay Clark had him going to the Lions - if only !) So your description of McCartin well may be right - it well may wrong as well...
  17. Why would the best available simply be those three names you mentioned ? 2013 - Boyd Kelly Billings - went as expected - the best available - are they now the best available ? Emma Quayle and Paige Cardona ranked them this way as well as countless others 2012 - Whitfield O'Rouke Plowman - the best available ? Quayle had them this way - Cardona had Whitfield Toumpas Plowman - on form to date - the three best ? Simply, whoever comes out 1-2-3 is almost guaranteed not to be the best 2 years down the track.
  18. I hope for the opposite - I hope that pick 2&3's form in the NAB challenge absolutely demand that they picked in round one and they maintain and improve the form so they cannot be dislodged from the team (hope is a very dangerous thing)
  19. without listing 100 more instances your drift is 100% correct.
  20. as to your assertion that you picked Wines over Toumpas - 1 -zip. You are selling yourself short. Every expert bar yourself rated Toumpas higher so the scoreline should look more like you 100% right -other experts 100% wrong . Well done ! You also wanted to select Newton who will languish in SANFL until death do us part. I asked all the experts on this and I am afraid that brings the scoreline back to you 1,000,00 million wrong - experts on par ( 100% wrong on Wines 100% right on Newton) I will argue that Lever and Laverde may well be top 3 after a season or two - you don't know. Again Bontempelli on exposed form should be no 1 from last years draft but thats not where he was selected. As to our most pressing needs - you can argue both ways - do we need mids ? absolutely .. do we need forwards ? absolutely. I will state categorically that if Lever or Laverde turn out to be champs and McCartin a chump then we require Lever and Laverde. If McCartin turns out to be the anti-Newton then we desperately need him.
  21. Not sure but I wanted to draft Latham as unlisted free agent. I just believe he is the no nonsense tagger like Crowley that our club has been screaming out for.
  22. I love being called "old chap". It takes old dee and I back to a time when we first got our MCC membership in 1896.
  23. Why would you say that ? JKH played round 1. Salem round 6.
  24. don't agree with this either - you would hardly call Lewis Taylor - muscled up. And we got some value this season from JKH . Whilst size has an impact, it doesn't dictate if you are ready to go round one or not.
  25. First of all - Demonland will go into Meltdown no matter who pick at pick 3 as there are such conflicting views by the posters on here. No one will bat at eyelid at Brayshaw but I apologise in advance to our pick 3 as he will get flayed by half the posters here. I want to take you up on your logic. If you want to McCartin at pick 3 then you should not be questioning the recruiting staff on not picking Wines. Expert opinion has McCartin going in the top 3 picks by almost everyone ( tell me if I am wrong) Expert opinion in 2012 had Toumpas going in the top 4 picks and before Wines by everyone ( tell me again if I am wrong). You can't have it both ways. You select what is considered the best at the pick by the experts - McCartin and Toumpas - or you don't and then we take a Wines/Lever/Laverde. ( disclaimer - I have stated that I have no problem moving away from what the "experts" think as the likes of Wines and Bontempelli are perfect examples of the "Experts" getting it wrong)
