  1. AFLX wasn't created with any of us in mind. In that way, our opinions don't mean much. That said, I suspect I'm in the minority when I say that I've never understood the push for free-flowing, end to end footy. AFLX and to some extent, high scoring AFL games look like training drills. Give me a highly contested arm wrestle where a premium is put on every goal, where the drama builds as each pack forms and where a moment of brilliance can be the difference between winning and losing.
  2. Wow! The depth in our back line is outstanding! I suspect the coaches will give Joel Smith a run at it early which would likely see O-Mac and Frost out. I'd also rather see T-Mac play back, further complicating things. I think Weideman's progression will be a huge factor to our ongoing success. If we could get 20 goals out of him this season, that would be huge. That forward line is the only area that causes immediate concern. A second dangerous tall is crucial to its success. Exciting times!
  3. AFL Mock Draft has us taking Callum Coleman Jones. A huge unit! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOT-wOal5rw
  4. Matt is one of my students. Lives and breathes footy. Awesome stuff.
  5. I'm amazed at how good I feel about this. Better than any win in the last couple of years! I've got the feeling I'll be watching a few Port games this year. What a legend!
  6. Highly intelligent bloke. Will be a great asset to any coaching group.
  7. Um, it takes a fair side to make a grand final. A vital cog in that team is a decent player. I think that's the take-home message here.
  8. I'm sure we've got our reasons for trading him but he's a good player and I hope his departure nets us something decent.
  9. I think JKH will surprise a few next season. He developed into a new role and did extremely well in the twos this year. If he improves at the same rate next season, he'll play most of the year in the senior side.
  10. Jake is a solid ruckman. I think there are a couple of clubs with worse starting ruckmen than Spence.
  11. He's playing in a tough spot on the ground. Although he's not getting a lot of clean ball, I don't think he's travelling that badly. He's working hard and moving ok, so I just think we persist and his time will come.
  12. 6 Jetta 5 Hibberd 4 Viney 3 Gawn 2 Hogan 1 Melksham Omac's work defensively was also good all day. Probably just a couple of brain fades where he spoiled back into corridor that cost him votes.
  13. This guy is fast becoming my fave Demon of all time. Heart, courage and elite decision-making. He really is the complete package.
  14. This is really frustrating. We had about 5-6 guys on Friday night whose only plausible role was to play off half-back. We were unable to lock the ball in our forward half and get repeat entries. 3 of the 4 players involved would have been a chance to assist in that role. Sydney were better around the ball, so I don't think it was match-defining, however, it would have helped.
  15. This is exactly how I saw it. The umpiring was so unpredictable. So many unrewarded tackles on both sides of the ledger.
  16. Yeah, he seems to lacking some strength at the moment. Was bullied on occasion at ruck contests as well. He'll get there.
  17. While I can see the knock on JKH given his previous AFL form, he has not played one AFL game on the back of really good VFL form. I'd like to see what he brings to the table after 3 weeks of great form in the 2's.
  18. I must admit, I did feel like they had their hands on the ball for most of the first quarter. Our work off the ball to transition into defence was a thing of beauty. Long may it continue!
  19. Watts had his moments, obviously, but certainly not stiff to miss out. Didn't have a great game.
  20. First half was poor, second half was magnificent. Even during that first half with the errors and dump kicks out of the back half, I could still see why we persist with him. He positions himself beautifully and is a very good (if not elite) spoiler. I can't help but feel we need to take a short term hit and pump games (and gym time) into him.
  21. I usually go with ABC. Love Gerard Whateley and David Parkin when he's on. However, lately they have been killing me with Mark McLure - the guys a nong!
  22. Hmmm...odd one. Can't see Wagner being omitted as others have suggested but I can't think of an another out for Salem so maybe!
  23. A balanced analysis Joeboy, although I do agree with others re: Dom Tyson - he was pretty good.
