  1. Witnessed the Jayden Hunt torpedo from the Marrara grandstand that night. Told my missus "he won't kick this" . Confounded quite a few of us, including crowbot ruckman Jenkins who got an almighty shock and rushed to the goal line in an attempt to spoil. The ball sailed metres above his head closer to top of the goal post. While not a 'classic' torpedo punt (ball spin was out of whack) a very long kick nonetheless. From memory the goals at Marrara have nets so the final length of the goal kick may well have been impeded.
  2. Blast from the past! Recall Willo's match winning performance Round 10 1988 v Pies at Waverley. Sitting in the concrete 'cauldron' outer, a reflection of the crowd's (60,000+) involvement not the wintry conditions. All the initial first quarter momentum with the opposition three unanswered goals. The ferals about were going apeshite, this was a top of the ladder clash. The demon supporters subdued and mostly hushed. The Colliwogs were running rampant, Darren Millane doing as he pleased until Ted Fidge infamously interjected. Brian Wilson led the MFC response in a brilliant individual and team lifting fashion scoring the first Dee's goal late in the first quarter and going on to kick five inspirational goals in total. A skite, show off, show pony call him what you will, but delivered as a champion footballer in spades. Postscript post demons 'retirement' Willo the joker in the Saints pack '91!
  3. Will be celebrating with a couple of 'frosties' up at the Rocks post-match Saturday evening! Black label lemonade of course!

  5. Re: umpiring performance yesterday at the 'G'. Here's my two bob's worth, as a neutral observer of the Hawks v Kangaroos game in Tassie. A young woman Eleni Glouftsis, at the commencement of her career as an AFL umpire adjudicated the match with more aplomb than her more senior colleagues did earlier in the day. Her bouncing of the ball at the centre bounces was also markedly superior. The other bob; sackcloth and ashes for Saint Kilda another preseason of penance ahead!

  9. Just returned to Jimbaran from the (snow sic mud) ski slopes of the Ijen volcano in time to do likewise!
  10. Marc McGowan's erudite report at afl.com.au Sell-out likely as big time footy hits Top End may help!
  11. Your top end correspondent was in attendance at yesterday's Dees 'training session' at TIO stadium. Which was more akin to a stroll in the park basking in the warmth of the dry season sunshine. Add a little goal kicking practice at the Michael Long Academy end and coach Goodwin leading a whole team rehearsal of what seemed to be positioning for a forward half of the ground defensive press. Goody cut a dashing figure out there radiating confidence and if the clock could be turned back a decade could join the dynamic demons midfield this evening in a blink. Mingling with the kids and players at the end of the 'session' where autographs and selfie snaps were sought after. If one die hard long term demons supporter could be indulged a moment of reverie here in the arcadian fields of Marrara " If you build it they will come " .
  12. josh wagon wheels playing a ripper!
  13. Uncle Bitters re: " Soi Cowboy" was that a casual bring your own six gun, put on your ten gallon hat, plus spurs and where are your 'chaps' night out or was more formal evening attire jodpurs and a malacca cane de-rigueur? pip pip!
  14. Cheers, As Demonland's self-appointed Northern Territory correspondent and a Darwin resident, plus an attendee at every Melbourne Footy Club game pre-season competition, Women's AFL and regular season here ... ! No, the humidity levels during the mid - dry season are no where near those in the wet season when most local aussie rules is actually played. Although the variation between comfortable cool conditions and more tepid evening temperatures depends on the height of the ski season down south . Down hill skiers only!
  15. As long as the team is deelivering all demonland posters should be deelighted
  16. With reference to Philip K, Dick's 'Do androids dream of electric sheep?' Your top end footy correspondent reporting from post-apocalyptic Marrara. Was at the game with my teenage daughter this evening, great turnout by the local community. A most impressive win by the Demon girls in oppressive conditions, With a big tropical storm brewing in the background with some distant flashes of lightning. Superior teamwork and defense in the second half were the key factors in the result over the Adelaide Crowbots. The late flurry of goals added a piquant of excitement to the final climax of the game. My daughter's knowledge of the AFLW rules, 15 minute quarters with time on added on was a calming influence! My best players in no particular order were Daisy Pearce, Karen Paxman, Rocky Cranston, Laura Duryea, and special mention Aleisha Newman, best goal cameo at this ground since Liam Jarrah. The skill level of the women's game can be variable but I was most impressed with the courage, resilience and determination shown by this Melbourne Football Club team. ps. There were some very good chest marks taken.
  17. Well when they do arrive wherever our erstwhile correspondents are geographically or temporally located please ensure there is no freckle on your banana.
  18. Admittedly being a top-end resident for many seasons with annual games at Marrara and occasional visits to 'G' or docklands over the years. My overview of Col's career is limited but he was most impressive in a game here against the Lions 4 seasons back. Unfortunately was injured and his influential contribution was definitely missed by the team. Wish him well in 2017 to revive his AFL career.
  19. May we quote the great Federico "I hope the Darwin game isn't dropped, been to three up to now, great place to watch footy and chill" As local attendees and top end MFC members scored the triplepeat last season twice visiting the 'G' R4&5 V pies and AD eve V tigers and thrice at TIO Marrara R16 V dockers. Ended bleak winless winters at the MCG first victory viewed there since David Nietz's 250th game and emphatically reversed the trend at TIO. May the light at the end of the tunnel burst forth into glorious demon triumphs! MMXVII
  20. Oscar deserves an Oscar! A perfectly weighted underground, unorthodox, top-spinning, worm-concussing, hawk-burning foot shank. Support cast Pedo & Billy!
  21. As a Top End resident and long time D's supporter who has attended every footy match played by the club at TIO stadium definitely agree with the later post! Most recent results have not been so great but feeling confident and positive about team performance this week. Go Demons!
  22. May I humbly suggest gentlemen that the Channel 9 60 minutes team so recently prominent in Lebanon be engaged as backup. Just in case a geriatric recovery snatch is required.
