Sam Frost Sam has had a really good five or six weeks in our pre-season program. Along with Oscar McDonald and Jake Lever, the three talls have been working really closely – and well together – on our defensive mechanisms and structures. The three of them have been looking really good as a unit and we’re excited to see what they can produce in 2018. According to some learned DL posters Tmac's younger brother is not up to it and is destined to continue his development at Casey. That would make it hard for him, Frost and Lever to play as a unit. Still happy to take bets (with avatar of choice being the currency) that if does not get injured he will play the whole season in the ones. Bit surprised his critics have not taken up the offer.

Well if there is an award there is an award. So yes a man or woman doing the same job will be paid the same rate under that award. The issue then becomes promotional opportunities. i'll bet there are very few female senior managers in coal mining. One of the best examples of this disparity is primary schools. Teachers are paid the same amount under their award and women vastly out number male teachers. But the majority of principals are male. Go figure.

It does indeed take all types. You are no doubt right that Michael Voss, Luke Hodge, Joel Selwood or Jack Viney are unlikely to cite being screamed at as an issue. Whilst that may be because they don't have an issue with it or it might be because they lack the sort of courage it takes to break with the stereotype that real men tough it out. No easy task to voice your concerns if you think it will some how reflect poorly on your masculinity and identity. I'd also add that those four blokes are leaders and part of being leaders ifs sometimes speaking up for those who don't have the the confidence to raise their concerns with the coach for fear of looking weak or indeed for fear of not being picked in the seniors.

This is a good point. I don't have anywhere near enough information to form a reasoned opinion on this issue. I have some thoughts and queries but certainly no definitive view. These thoughts and queries include: good on the players for taking responsibility and saying they didn't think the camp is valuable - we would mature adults not sheep in 2017 agree they every right to consult with the AFLPA, not least to understand their rights eg what do standard player contracts say about their right to not participate in an over night camp. I have no sense though of how, when or ho consulted the AFLPA or how appropriate the AFLPA response was what does the fact that the player's decision came so late in the piece say? ie is it evidence of poor communication from the club, did the club not properly evaluate last years camp, did the club not consult with the players or perhaps they did and the players buried their head in the sand and were they the ones guilty of leaving it to the last moment? the players apparently love goody, will this impact on that? who gives a rats arse what a bloke who has the nickname Spud thinks?

Agree, though i think DE, clangers and turnovers are useful points of comparisons for any defender given the damage done by poor disposals in the back half - and Tmac's younger brother compares pretty well to Lever in that regard. I also think 1 percenters are relatively important stats for defenders and no 28 has Lever there Also agree that intercepts are the most critical stat and once again, over their careers Tmac's younger brother stacks up not badly at all to Lever (6.3 to 7.8 per game respectively).

That's a bit strange from the club i would have thought. Given what is involved that is very short notice - particularly given it involved one overnight stay and t players might have family or other events planned given how close to XMAS it was going to be,, not mention if you are a parent, partic of little ones, things would have to be sorted

I'm not really sure where i stand on the camp cancellation but fully agree with the bolded bit. i do think it is unfortunate it got to the eve of the camp before it was sorted but clubs can't have it both ways. By that i meant these days they are all about 360 degree feedback, empowering players, and players driving culture. Richmond are an example of the benefits wit the team apparently given a great deal of influence, with just two examples being the feedback given to their coach about his approach and the shift in game plan. So if the players say they don't think the camp is a good idea their views should be respected.

Statistics can be very misleading and we all know that in isolation they are often of little value. At the same time they have value, which is why professional scouts across all professional sports place such an emphasis on them and they can be useful in terms of countering any confirmation bias observers might have Lever and Tmac's younger brother make for a fascinating statistical comparison. They are a really good duo to compare given they are almost exactly the same age, were drafted in the same year, almost the same height and weight and of most significance have played very similar roles and positions thus far in their career (meaning apples are not being compared to oranges when for instance comparing the DE of a mid to a player across HB who does a lot of short sideway chips). Now to be clear about how i rate Tmac's younger brother i think he is good player and last year really started to hit his straps in the second half of the year, only his second full year at AFL and he has huge upside. For a young KP he his ticking all the boxes and i expect him to play 200 plus games for the dees. I rate him higher that than Tmac at the same age and think he will end up being a better player, not least because his disposal is so much better. Of course i think Lever is a better player than Tmac's younger brother, he is a star already and is only going to get better. I am over the moon about drafting him. So please don't get me wrong i am not arguing these stats are evidence they are of equal ability because they're not. But nonetheless they are remarkably similar and given how good Lever unarguably is they reflect well on Tmac's younger brother. They will make a formidable defensive combination. They should raised their concerns wit the aflpa. If they had done so they may have saved tbemselves and their club a greal deal of grief - not to mention many millions in legal fees

Surprise, surprise stmj is worried tmac's younger brother won't make it. Quelle horreur! Well i'm not. I can see what the fd can. Like he has been since first selected he is a lock for our starting 22 (yes, yes, i know he was dropped. Once). I have argued the fact he is picked week in week out is proof of his standing. Some - well one - have argued his selection is down to luck and fortituous timing (there are no other options!). The latter argument is moot this year with lever coming in. There are options for the fd if they think he is not ready. So when he starts in the side round one and remains in all year, injuries notwithstanding, it will be crystal clear, even to his most trenchant of critics, how highly he is rated by his coach and the fd. By the happy to bet the above scenario will come to pass.

Good lord, you can't be serious. If so this is perhaps the best example of confirmation bias on DL. Ever. And that is no small feat.

Interesting comments about the benefits if having multiple picks around the 30 mark. I wonder if this was perhaps a factor in the deciaion to trade watts ie we got pick 31 for him

Which is intersting in so far as i reckon most if the elite basketballers who play afl, whilst being good in traffic, are generally more outside players. Im rhinking watts, pendles, that poet player.Trac and maynard being two exceptions
