Farewell Brodie Grundy
I am on DL on a lot, but often only engage in and/or read two or three threads at any one time. Which means that sometimes a thread such as this one pops up that has been dormant for a while and when i open it, I land on where i last read it, which is often yonks ago In this instance my last read post was immediately before the one quoted above (which was posted October last year). I hadn't read this post and just wanted to quote it because one it is a fantastic post (as is the very next one, also by godwindees) and two, everything i learned about Brodie since he has joined the dees says the post is spot on about him. Yet one more big tick for the club - what a brilliant pick-up Brodie has been.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
A big advantage the hawks have in this game is they are under little pressure. So can play freely. Freo players and coaching staff on the other hand are under massive pressure. Imagine if the lose this? Docker fans will lose their collective minds. And as you say their game plan is all over the shop and the players look confused. I think they will win still, but all those factors mean a loss won't surprise.

Goal kicking accuracy 2023
I listened to that live. It had a kicker โ Horne queried whether that level of accuracy is sustainable over a very long season and into finals. And wondered whether it might, paraphrasing, cover some sins, so to speak. Cornes loved that, and was quick to say thatโs one for the watch list.

POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs North Melbourne
100% agree with all of above. Reallt important player for us during that period. And beyond too really because clubs need heart and soul players when things are tough. They help the stages of development connect. Maxy and Jack in particular really had a long period of being in rubbish teams. Steve may too given how poor the suns were Not much chance of those boys easing up.

All fair points. But, really in footy now there is rarely any clear leading lanes. And except when the game really opens up or an opponent gets a super quick transition, all forward areas are usually crowded meaning lots of big packs and few one on ones. The cats are a little bit of an outlier in this regard because they really work hard to create as many one on ones for Hawkins as possible- for example by Cameron playing as a high hallf forward. But still their forward zone is usually crowded

Thye might send him back to Casy at some stage to give him anfew matches where is he involved more (eg run him as the back up ruck, use him in the Tmac role etc)

I agree with this as it relates to JVR (not sure who the other player you are referring to is). Against both the tigers and the roos he went for long periods without very few marks, kick or handbal. As we know, he was just about to be subbed off against the tigers before going nuts because he had barely touched the pill. Sure, he competes hard inside 50 and creates great contests. But if he is not getting up the ground, he will not directly impact the game for big chunks of time (ie maybe the ball is inside our 50 something like 25% of the total match time?). A bit like Kossie in his first season, we have to accept that ATM if he is playing ones.

Would it be safe then for Andy to ask: 'So, Steve you set very high standards for yourself. How tough then has it been to play so poorly this season? And a related question Steve, what is happening with your ground ball gets? Seems like once the ball hits the ground you are a liability'

And i don't think he is fit enough yet to do the sort of up and down the ground donkey work Petty (or if in the team, Tmac) does when playing forward. And hasn't been doing it. I'm guessing Goody would prefer he say closer to goal and remain as 'fresh' as possible to maximise his impact.

I have never really heard him talk about his aboriginality. I'd be curious to know more about his people and country. And id be interested to know what role, if any, he has with young Aboriginal players like Kozzie. And a related question is his thoughts on why it was so important to Kosie that the club involved his family in the contract negotiations.

Stats Files - 2023
All that said, I'm not sure how useful the so called pressure ratings are other than to give some sense of intensity. Interestingly though clarkson said in the post match presser he thought their pressure was pretty good, which the stats seem to support (at least until the last quarter when they were cooked). The accuracy noted in rhe poot above was obviously a big factor I the margin. We kick 10.6 instead and it's a 60 point win, which doesn't look so bad for the roos

I think their pressure was not the issue. Their defensive sytem was the issue. It was all over the shop. They push up so high, a goal out the back is always a risk and there were holes everywhere when we entered our 50 hence. As was their centre bounce and stoppages set up. Just to easy for us to win quality clearances, too easy for us transition the ball and too many easy marks

No disrespect to either, both of whom were stars for the dees, but i have little doubt Koz will go past both.

@WheeloRatings Thanks wheelo, that would be brilliant (adding that data manually to this thread). The pressure data for the roos game is interesting. The Roos were poor, but to my eye it was more about their system, particularly their defence, and of course their talent level, that was the issue not their effort. And to that end, i was interested to hear Clarkson's comments basically saying the same thing in his post-match presser. The pressure ratings appear back this perspective up (dees first column): Pressure Q1: 189 - 185 Q2: 169 - 161 Q3: 168 - 160 Q4: 153 - 139 Tot: 169 - 163

Ta. Post duly fixed! As an aside, and at the risk of derailing the koz fest, outside of dees supports, is Fritter the most under rated player in the AFL? A relatively comparable player role wise is Jemery Cameron. Cameron is an undisputed star, and his numbers this season are unbelievable. I'm not saying Fritter is better, or even as good as Cameron. Rather, i'm using Cameron as a benchmark for Fritter. And when you compare their career stats , Fritter doesn't lose too much by way of comparison (its worth noting that Fritter played a big chunk of i think 2019 in defence): Player Statistics Comparison Bayley Fritsch Name Jeremy Cameron Melbourne Demons Team Geelong Cats Forward Position Forward 115 Career Games 217 Casey Demons Origin Dartmore December 6, 1996 Date of Birth April 1, 1993 26yr 4mth Age 30yr 0mth 188cm Height 196cm 84kg Weight 94kg 2017 National Draft Last Drafted In Round 2, Pick #31 Last Draft Position Melbourne Demons Last Drafted By Career Stats for Season Career 115 Games 217 8.8 Kicks 9.3 3.9 Handballs 3.6 12.7 Disposals 12.9 4.9 Marks 5.3 1.6 Goals 2.6 0.9 Behinds 1.4 1.8 Tackles 1.5 0 Hitouts 0 2.2 Inside 50s 2.6 0.5 Goal Assists 0.6 0.8 Frees For 1.0 0.7 Frees Against 1.2 4.5 Contested Possessions 5.0 8.3 Uncontested Possessions 8.0 8.9 Effective Disposals 8.7 70.1% Disposal Efficiency % 67.4% 2.1 Clangers 2.5 0.7 Contested Marks 1.0 1.7 Marks Inside 50 2.5 0.3 Clearances 0.3 0.8 Rebound 50s 0.2 1.4 One Percenters 1.6 0.1 Bounces 0.1 83.2 Time On Ground % 87.8
