All fair points. But, really in footy now there is rarely any clear leading lanes. And except when the game really opens up or an opponent gets a super quick transition, all forward areas are usually crowded meaning lots of big packs and few one on ones. The cats are a little bit of an outlier in this regard because they really work hard to create as many one on ones for Hawkins as possible- for example by Cameron playing as a high hallf forward. But still their forward zone is usually crowded

Thye might send him back to Casy at some stage to give him anfew matches where is he involved more (eg run him as the back up ruck, use him in the Tmac role etc)

I agree with this as it relates to JVR (not sure who the other player you are referring to is). Against both the tigers and the roos he went for long periods without very few marks, kick or handbal. As we know, he was just about to be subbed off against the tigers before going nuts because he had barely touched the pill. Sure, he competes hard inside 50 and creates great contests. But if he is not getting up the ground, he will not directly impact the game for big chunks of time (ie maybe the ball is inside our 50 something like 25% of the total match time?). A bit like Kossie in his first season, we have to accept that ATM if he is playing ones.

Would it be safe then for Andy to ask: 'So, Steve you set very high standards for yourself. How tough then has it been to play so poorly this season? And a related question Steve, what is happening with your ground ball gets? Seems like once the ball hits the ground you are a liability'

And i don't think he is fit enough yet to do the sort of up and down the ground donkey work Petty (or if in the team, Tmac) does when playing forward. And hasn't been doing it. I'm guessing Goody would prefer he say closer to goal and remain as 'fresh' as possible to maximise his impact.

Also, why is he is so grumpy on field (the Juddster told you he was the scariest teammate - weel defender to be more accurate)

I think that is a function of the higher scores across the board. I'd be willing to bet the for and against differential is more this year than in 2021 and 2022

I have never really heard him talk about his aboriginality. I'd be curious to know more about his people and country. And id be interested to know what role, if any, he has with young Aboriginal players like Kozzie. And a related question is his thoughts on why it was so important to Kosie that the club involved his family in the contract negotiations.

All that said, I'm not sure how useful the so called pressure ratings are other than to give some sense of intensity. Interestingly though clarkson said in the post match presser he thought their pressure was pretty good, which the stats seem to support (at least until the last quarter when they were cooked). The accuracy noted in rhe poot above was obviously a big factor I the margin. We kick 10.6 instead and it's a 60 point win, which doesn't look so bad for the roos

I think their pressure was not the issue. Their defensive sytem was the issue. It was all over the shop. They push up so high, a goal out the back is always a risk and there were holes everywhere when we entered our 50 hence. As was their centre bounce and stoppages set up. Just to easy for us to win quality clearances, too easy for us transition the ball and too many easy marks

Agree. I would argue they are almost in better form than freo - at least they are not experimenting with their method 7 rounds into the season

The Roos were poor, but to my eye it was more about their system, particularly their defence, and of course their talent level, that was the issue not their effort. And to that end, i was interested to hear Clarkson's comments basically saying the same thing in his post-match presser. The pressure ratings appear back this perspective up (dees first column): Pressure Q1: 189 - 185 Q2: 169 - 161 Q3: 168 - 160 Q4: 153 - 139 Tot: 169 - 163

A relatively comparable player role wise is Jemery Cameron. Cameron is an undisputed star, and his numbers this season are unbelievable. I'm not saying Fritter is better, or even as good as Cameron. Rather, i'm using Cameron as a benchmark for Fritter. And also, culturally appropriate to involve Aboriginal player's families in such discussions and processes (assuming that is ok with said player). The importance of involving family when negotiation with Aboriginal players (again, with their permission) is reflected in this quote from Kossie: “The club has embraced me and my family, and I can’t thank them enough for their support. I didn’t realise it was King's Birthday round coming up already! I can't begin to say how wrapped i am about this. I just love watching him play footy so, so much. Already one of my all-time favourite dee's player, only one demon player is ahead of him for me in terms of just loving watching him play, and that's the Wiz - and now he is dee moving forward i'm sure in time i won't be able to split them Big, big tick to the footy club for how they have managed this situation - and all the other recent big contract negotiations, including Jackson’s - which by the by is increasingly looking like pure genius. They have locked away not only our best players, but heart and soul players. Salem, Maxy, Trac, Oliver, Gus, Lever, Petty, Nibbler, Viney, May, Fritter and now Kozzie all locked in (not sure where langers is at contract wise). Add Rivers, Mcvee and Sparrow all recently resigning and Grundy and Hunter being in the first year of multiyear contracts and we are in fantastic shape list wise. That is all down to the off field team and is yet another reminder that sustainable on field success is not possible without quality governance and management systems.

Am i missing something or is this data yet to be added to the site and you have just (super helpfully) put them in this thread?

@Demon Dynasty G'day DD - i know you have put up the def etc for the player rankings you post in this thread (whcih ius fanttic by th ewya) prvioulsy. But i cant recall the specifics Am i right in assuing the ranbkings are the official AFL player rankings (which i presume is a champion dta thing) not a system you have designed? And if yes, is the def as per this table;

i think all AFL data is generated by champion data, and i assume so is the player rnakings. I just tried to find a defintion of how they calaculate it, but unbelievably struggled to find one. I found this def from this 2020 article (note the authour notes about the table - 'i went looking for a similar explanation of the AFL Player Rating system on the AFL website, but any such information seems to have been removed in the latest upgrade of the site). (also note: i'm not sure if this formula was adopted - does anyone have a recent defintion?)
