  1. Not likely that he will be moved after becoming an all australian ruckman. Yes he will spend more time forward this year due to the interchange rules and hopefully Campbell comes on well to help with this, but Jamar will not be there any longer than is required for him to rest and have another crack in the middle. He has an elite level tank too and a willingness to push himself to contests. I love the big hairy Russian... A recent thread about Garland rings true in that comment JCB
  2. Yeah but i still reckon they got a good one on us.......... every time i see Kruezer i think how good he would look in a Melbourne jumper, what if...........?
  3. Well put DC....
  4. C'mon Old Dee, your eyesight or comprehension failing? When did i ever say that they wouldn't be approached? If you read my post properly i said one may well leave and i would not begrudge him, but i honestly do not believe that it will be any of our core or required players that does. Perhaps a fringe player or a player not getting opportunities. Maric? Happy New Year...
  5. I think you are grossly underestimating factors other than money old dee. And EVERY player goes to their first club via the draft- National or Rookie. Strangly, 90% of them stay loyal to the club who drafted them??? I would say MFC is a long way ahead of GWS, given they haven't even played a year of reserves footy. So are you saying Presti regrets staying at Collingwood? Look i understand that a 60% pay increase is a fairly big incentive. Like Gold Coast, GWS will attract some players. And there may be a chance that someone from MFC goes. But let me ask you this- how many players do you think GC approached and GWS have already approached with big dollars, much bigger than what they'll see at their current clubs, only to have the player/s turn their backs and sign another contract with their club? I guarantee you it is far more than they actually signed. Gold Coast for all their positioning and talk of massive money, lifestyle and poaching players got the following: Ablett- left a team on the decline Harbrow- left a team that is not good enough to take the next step Rischitelli- left a crap team after being poorly treated as trade bait the year before Brennan- left a crap team for money at the back end of his career Brown- left a team in decline at the back end of his career and again was poorly treated by that club the previous year Krakour- left a crap team going nowhere after falling out with the coaching panel Fraser- left the premiers after realising he was no longer in their best team and would struggle to get any more games Not one player from a developing team or "young gun". GWS have less incentives in terms of lifestyle etc than GC. There will be much talk and posturing by GWS and Sheedy, and plenty of MFCSS in the meantime until all our kids sign. I would not begrudge any player leaving. But doubt any will- or at least any that will be the core of our team going forward. We will be compensated accordingly if we do and that in itself can prove very valuable as we move up the ladder.
  6. Reminds me of a Michael Jackson joke a while ago.... Why does he love twenty eight year olds? Because there are 20 of them!!!!!
  7. Not only that, but they actually went on to profess how much better, stronger, more balabced they felt wearing it. Ha... Just shows how weak and easily manipulted their minds were!
  8. Let em go DC, it's rather humerous.........
  9. You seem unhealthily driven by money alone. What about things like uprooting your life to move to a place where you know no-one, have no family, isn't a particularly nice place to live, to a team that will be a long long way off any real success. These obviously have no bearing in your mind. I think you will find however that most players in developing teams or teams in the premiership window think differently (thank god) and will gladly stay at their club for less money for a realistic chance of the ultimate success.
  10. When you look at the teams as they were in their premiership window, none of the playrers left. Even as they were building the list, the only players that went were those on teh fringe or those that couldn't be squeezed into the cap. It is well documented that when a team is in this window, players will stick around for several hundred thousand dollars less. It isn't all about money to these guys, as much as you seem to want to believe that. They want enjoyment out of life and football too and to enjoy where they live. The only time players leave is as the decline starts in that teams successes- Ablett saw the writing on the wall. Other players that left to go to the gold coast were either in teams that clearly are not going to be a premiership contender- Brisbane, Bulldogs- or they were on the outer of their teams- Fraser. I will back it in that most, if not all our really good players will stay for these reasons- they can see what is coming.
  11. Let me preface this by saying that every club will be having their best pre-seasons ever, with all players flying etc etc. But reading this on the MFC website- Pre-Season Snapshot, i get the impression that aside from a slight strain here and there, we actually have everyone engaging in FULL pre-season training. This would dispel some fear held by those who attended certain sessions and saw some players not participating in certain aspects of training. If this is the case then it really is a great stepping stone for 2011, and hopefully the remaining 5 weeks of training continue in this manner...
  12. You want your cake and you want to eat it too. Don't be so naive. They are young boys/men who happen to be very good at kicking a football around. They are not necessarily 'smart' or 'upstanding' young boys or men. Granted some, maybe most are- but not all. And invariably it is those few who are the ones making the news. It is those few who see their non-AFL mates getting on the gas week in and week out, partying, going to nightclubs, and sometimes getting up to mischief (and i'm not talking about sexual assaults, organised crime figures etc). They live a high-pressure, highly regulated, always in the spotlight life and sometimes they crack. They need an outlet and they take it- rightly or wrongly. This is not to excuse what happens. It is merely to say that it IS what happens. Some of those who have been involved in the incidents you make reference too are some of the most talented and at one point in time best footballers in the league. Yet they are flawed characters. Perhaps that is what makes them so good. As Ben Cousins said- "you want me to behave like an Angel all week long and play like the Devil on the weekend." AFL clubs will continue to draft the best available talent in the land. Not necessarily those with the best character. It is about winning premierships, not currying favour with the masses. And anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. Clubs will try to work with these flawed characters however, sometimes the players will make poor judgement calls and incidents involving these types will continue to happen, it is just the way it is. Having seen on a regular basis, what really happens out in the community on a weekly basis, AFL footballers are but a small reflection of what goes on in the wider community, they are not the leaders of behaviour that you expect them to be. Fev and Cuz continued to get in trouble, but that didn't stop kids having their numbers on their backs or adults, well educated or not, still cheering like crazy for these players when they run out on the field...
  13. Yes, but you can also be overly critical and have unrealisitic expectations. Nothing wrong at all with wanting to see development and the kid being pushed along, but it also needs to be accepted that he will have some flaws in his game, just like almost every other player in the league. If he minimises how much these flaws hurt the team by self improvement and hard work, then he will be of great value to the team.....
  14. WTF? Ridiculous. Here's a little something for you..... The AFL has approximately 800 players on its books between the ages of 18 to early 30's. Victoria alone has millions in the same bracket. AFL players are a cross-section of young men from all walks of life. The AFL do a tremendous amount of work in teh field of respect and privacy. Young males in Victoria, footballers or not, are engaging in this and far worse conduct every single weekend. Sexual assaults, brawls, drunken escapades. AFL players on the whole do extremely well to avoid all this the majority of the time, and for their age group, would represent a very small percentage in comparison to their non-afl peers. Bottom line. They are all young men growing up in a big bad world. Have a look at history, nothing has changed, sometimes young men will [censored] up. That doesn't excuse what they do, but what it does suggest is that given that AFL players are in a high risk environment given large salaries and high public profiles, it has been testament to their work that there is only a handful of inciidents in any one year they have to deal with. The same cannot be said for society as a whole. Everyone is quick to condemn them with the cop-out that they are role models. They are young men with skills. Most of the time they are role models, but sometimes they will not be. Perhaps the are just a reflection of our current society as a whole and in fact, it is the more pornographic tendancies of society that has lead to this... Until you have walked in the shoes of an AFL player, you cannot know what it is like to live their kind of existence.
  15. I am one of the people who actually rate this bloke and come to his defence. 2010 was disappointing, but in a shizen team for two years prior to that he showed me enough to believe that he will (with a full pre-season) bounce back and become an integral part of our team going forward. As posters have said, perhaps one of Mortons biggest strengths is his flexibility. People are very quick to point out players' flaws or weaknesses but you show me a premiership team in the AFL where all 22 players had the perfect build, explosive power, precision skills, strength in the contest, goalkicking accuracy, gut running ability etc etc etc....You cannot. Point being, a finals/premiership team is made up of 22 blokes (& about 8 other depth players) whose combined skills make it a formidable outfit. Don't be so ridiculous as to expect every player on the MFC list to possess elite level of 'every attribute'. It simply won't happen. Cale has the potential to be a really damaging player as that swingman, as he has the unique ability to play as a forward, defender or running midfielder. It is in this HBF / Wing / HFF role i see him swinging and using his height, tank and decision making to carve teams up. The kids has played 2 good seasons and 1 ordinary season yet posters are quick to pull the trigger and condemn. Get a grip. If he gets through summer not only injury free, but able to continue putting on size and core strength (which is the key) then he will be a regular in our best 22 this year...
  16. Agree wholeheartedly. Both the off-field and on-field progress has been fantastic and you would be hard pressed to find any Melbourne member or supporter who wasn't excited by what the future, and in particular 2011, holds.... But be careful mentioning in any way previous administrations, and especially comparing them to Jimmy and the current board, some around here can get very defensive!!! Let's encourage as many people as we can to get on board the Demon-train as we power into 2011 and beyond....
  17. Spot on. Merry Syphillis and Happy Ghonnorhea.... Go The Mighty Demons in 2011!!!!!
  18. Sorry, i perhaps wasn't clear. In this case she hasn't just downloaded something from the internet / forum / cyberspace. She has physically gone into someone's computer and without their consent, caused the original/a copy of that item to be sent to her own computer. She then uses that image as if it were her own to use. She has appropriated property that belongs to another with dishonest intent to use it herself. The elements of a theft charge are present and i believe could be made out. Along with the specific computer related offences. If it were to go ahead she would be processed as a child offender in the childrens' court, and given the joke that our court system currently is, regardless of the damage she has caused, she will get nothing more than a stern talking too and have to 'promise' to be a good little girl in the future......... A slight difference to the downloading in general that you highlighted- i agree, that is highly debatable and something minds much smarter than mine are still trying to figure out.....
  19. Sorry, WYL but that is incorrect. There is debate at the moment as to whether the photos (stored as 'data' on a computer) can be 'stolen' and therefore subject to a theft charge. I reckon they would be able to mount a fairly good case that it is a theft. But there are also offences against the Victorian Crimes Act for causing a computer to perform a function without authorisation. If Gilbert wishes to pursue the matter criminally, then she can be charged with this, other related charges, and probably theft. Yes. She is not considered an adult until she turns 18 and any offences committed before she turned 18 will still be dealt with in the Childrens' Court. Edit: However in relation to players having sex with her. Once she turns 16 then it is not illegal for a person 18 years or older to engage in consensual sex with her provided she is not under their care or supervision...
  20. I believe that they made a $3.5 million profit but when you removed all those things you mentioned Sylvinator there was still a "clear" $720 000 odd profit. So even without assistance they are finally making some serious dough. That is the really pleasing aspect. And it looks like they are intent on making investments for both on-field and off-field stability in the future. We will always continue to rely on the MCC as that is where a large percentage of our membership base is. It is also a good thing as it is the MCC who run "our" home ground and it is the MCC who have pretty big clout when it comes to negotiating with the AFL. One of the many great things this administration did was re-align itself as part of the MCC. Great job to Jimmy and everyone associated with the mighty MFC...
  21. Wow.... Nearly 700 posts and 20 000 views on a topic about a bloke who left our club to play for the poos and wees for a couple of years at the most. Anyone would think we lost a Gary Ablett or Chris Judd. He will be well and truly forgotten about once we start pushing towards the finals and beyond, probably should be now.... At least until round 2! Surely the mods have a Cam Bruce bandwidth limit!!!
  22. From the press conference, Reiwoldt claims they were taken by Gilbert. One can only assume they were donwloaded onto Gilberts computer and this girl has found them on there (is he the ex-boyfriend)? Hardtack and DA, i will get on the front foot and take Reiwoldt at his word, that the photos weren't taken by her, but by Gilbert. I withdraw any argument in relation to that. Did Gilbert know this girl had obtained the photo's from the computer? I won't be so quick to shoot off but either he did and i'm sure he asked her to get rid of them or he didn't know in which case she stole them with the intent of using them down the track. It doesn't change the circumstances of their release or the actions of this girl...
  23. Girl says she took them herself... How, bet they didn't want the photos coming out regardless of whether they posed for them or not... The girl took the photos. The girl distributed them... It looks like she is one vindictive piece of work though. Wonder which player it was that obviously broke her heart to the point where she now has to rein down all sorts of carnage on the Saints????
  24. You in a bad mood E? Understand your point but perhaps a tad harsh????
  25. Bottom line, as the poll suggests, there are many who believe Col is a KPD, but some who don't. I don't reckon either side can/will mount an argument compelling enough to make the other side change opinions. Let's just settle on him being a fu(Ken great defender, tall/KP or otherwise and an invaluable part of the team!
