  1. Is this just two much pedantasism, or even prehaps pedantry???
  2. Wasn’t sure where to post this clip from The Shovel - this seemed the most appropriate
  3. Should be done ritually in the centre circle of the MCG - maybe raised on a pitchfork?? Then we could borrow one of the Hawthorn President’s fiery cauldrons from Crown Casino and complete the ultimate exorcism.
  4. I know that even without listening. We have also lost our bookends, and our other two KP forwards have yet to grace the field.
  5. The problem with Junction Oval was that cricket has it until our season starts, so no preseason there. I am sure it has been asked (and answered) before, but how far short of MCG size is Ghosh’s? How many trees would need to come down to make it fit? And are the facilities at the bubble dome fully utilized? Could at least toilet facilities and maybe a coffee / hot dog stand be somehow integrated?
  6. Agree that introducing both would radically upset our working structure Witout suggesting complacency, the following week vs North we could experiment / tweak a bit and debut BBB against they who did not want him. P2J. I remember AJ#13 debuting for us against WCE after much fanfare. As I recall we scored 2.2 or thereabouts for the day, and as you say he spent a long stint in the 2s.
  7. I must say that I was shocked when searching for goal assists stats to find that LJ is listed as just one ?? I guess it may be a matter of definition but I recall him being involved as the last chain in a goal score at least a handful of occasions this year. Sure may not be a classic forward, but his deep forward pressure and being not outmarked by defenders makes him a valuable forward contributor in my mind. The, plus his ability to release Max to defend or attack makes him a very valuable player.
  8. May - eye socket - test! What, are they going to getHawkins up to whack it again? Seriously, how does one test an eye socket? And, Fritsch test too? For once I do not envy the selectors
  9. Just as the great Norm Smith decided to try a radical experiment - Ronald Barassi (Jnr) as a “ruck rover”. And the rest is history. What I look forward to seeing is oppositions thinking “who matches up best against Melbourne “
  10. One cannot maintain what is not already there. A bit like the contradiction of “keeping politicians honest” - better put as “trying to make politicians honest”!
  11. So even more inequitable than the AFL “draw” .... much could depend on who plays the bad, and who plays the better sides. Surely there will be at least one conference ie talkfest to discuss this Perhaps there will need to be two sections / divisions etc, but we are not (yet) totally Americanized (despite ex CEO Vlad’s love of all things American in sport) so leave that term to them.
  12. Anyone old enough to remember MFC premierships will remember the invincible Jet Jackson, flying commando TV series. Hope he becomes our Jet Jackson.
  13. Spot on Tony. I haven’t been going much recently, for various reasons, but the meaningless din and inability to chat with others has ruined the “match day experience” forme and many other I have spoken with, when able. Clearly Gil, and DumbItriou before him, have been influenced by the American sports, which in the case of gridiron is so stop start that it needs something to fill the gaps. They also presumably watch from glass boxes most of the time. The Essendon air raid siren was, in retrospect, just a minor annoyance especially when compared to the bloody intrusive betting ads, which pervade all aspects of our lives.
  14. Not sure if I have posted elsewhere, but playing back up ruck he had more hit outs himself than the Hawk ruckmen combined, as well as offering so much around the ground, on the ground and up forward.
  15. He certainly adds versatility, with his ground work potentially putting Max and he ahead of even the Jimmy / Strawb combination. And for someone who has had, as I understand it, time away from footy, he shows a great understanding of the game and of the team set up.
  16. Wow! Just caught up with the interview. What an amazing man to have on board - wide experience, humble, enthusiastic and aware of the needs of developing players, and the club as a whole. We are indeed fortunate to have found him when we did. Basic skills and life management All speculation, of course, but one can’t but wonder what effect he would / could have had on our run of top picks including Watts, Trengove, (he who must not be named), Strauss, and soon. Kudos to whomever sought him out.
  17. But one can’t help loving Frosty’s enthusiasm and endeavor - dashing off like a spooked gazelle who smelled a stalking lion. Could he (Jones) possibly develop an annoy8ng 2 week muscle strain and need to be “managed”? Jackson alone had (as back up ruck) more hit outs than all Hawks ... and ever forget the fitness to run out games and run over opponents in Q4
  18. Pickett pressure ❤️❤️❤️❤️
  19. WTF that free against Max!!
  20. Staff wages?? Has that damn Mr Wilberforce abolished slavery at The Manor? Outrageous ?
  21. Just turned on the TV - saw Sydney and some artificial team in black. Wondered who the hell it was before realising that some moron in AFL HQ must think orange clashes with white and red. Certainly for those who believe in the concept of “playing for the jumper” could explain why GW$ seems so meaningless and lacking in purpose.
  22. Well that last few minutes of Q3 with Collingwood conceding 3 goals in as many minutes was reminiscent of the Melbourne of old. Another nail in Buckley’s coffin?
  23. But as others have said, we have only beaten teams below us. ? A bit like the bottom teams complaining of a rigged schedule because they only play teams above them ?
  24. Whilst not “gun” as a forward, I seem to recall Tassie Johnson playing a bit as a CHF (as well as ruck-rover) late in his career. Sean Wight was also handy at times as a swing man forward
