If you want your mind blown: at 1:00 minute in - "there was (sic) things in the last four minutes that we really liked..." I am beyond speechless.

This. He’s been “Melbourned” ( a phrase from a previous dark era ). And we run the risk of doing the same to McVee, Langford, and XL. Change needs to happen before we kill off the rebuild.

Time to go Goody?
To quote the sainted P. Jackson: Q: "Do you need a premiership coach" PJ Answer: "No, but we need a very good one!" I wish we could get him back...

Who is running this club?
This to Brad Green tonight The first game of footy I remember is the ’64 flag, and it was a great day. Dark days followed - brightened up along the way by Flower, Schwartz, Green, Yze, Stynes, Neitz and Gawn. Northey and Daniher were hard men who took us to Grand Finals, and then Peter Jackson arrived and sorted the place out. We win a flag based on structures he and Paul Roos put in place. Since then, all downhill. Internal board ructions, on-field straight set exits from final series (with a truly generational list) and a steady return to irrelevant mediocrity. Today’s loss was the worst day of my football following life. Worse than Buckenara in ’87; worse than 186 at Kardinia Park. The last quarter today put the ineptitude of our Club on full display. And the ending – accurately described by Kane Cornes as “the worst 69 seconds in AFL history” – was beyond inept. None of the Melbourne players seeming to know the rules. Wanganeen-Milera clearing the St. Kilda forwards out to the right, and he sprints off to the left, and marks. Viney 30m away, Bowey looking the other way, Max still in the circle! Put 4 forwards in the middle for the taking of the free-kick, and put the best contested mark in the comp at Centre Half Back. The Melbourne players, as well as being shell-shocked, seemed not to know what to do – to lack information. That is surely on the coaching team? I have been reassured to hear that the leadership of the Club is not “interim” - neither the President, nor the CEO. That is very good news, because if ever there was need for executive action, it’s now. This loss, the manner of the loss, and the way our club now is viewed all pose an serious risk to the club. If it’s not addressed, then the rather grim '70s might just look like a golden era.

4 chords and the truth: afl.com.auFirst Up: Vision reveals how the Saints did it in 'bonker...Sarah Olle and Kane Cornes unpack the big issues from the round of footy and the analysis on First Crack was even more damning. The Melbourne players didn't know what to do, and that's 100% on the coaching. Goodwin just standing on the sidelines, saying nothing. None of the Melbourne players seem to know the rules. Wanganeen-Milera clearing the St. Kilda forwards out to the right, and he sprints off to the left, and marks. Viney 30m away, Bowey looking the other way, Max still in the circle - he should have been at CHB. Put Fritter, Melksham, Spargo (hah!) and Langford in the middle for the free, and put the best contested mark in the comp at CHB. This failure is unforgivable. And that's not even touching on the failure to make changes to arrest the momentum change. Collingwood don't lose that game, and it's not just because of their list. And don't kill the messenger; I can't stand King, or Cornes - but they are 100% correct here. Time for change.

Accountability - there is NONE. If this were to happen any other "performance based industry" (thanks Simon) then the Board and/or the Chairman and/or the CEO would be out. Our club was like that four times in my memory - Smith/Cardwell, Northey/Someone, Daniher/Someone and the sainted Peter Jackson/Paul Roos. Who get sacked after this performance???

Time to go Goody?
Peter Jackson did the job for us once, and I'm not sure Smith (a different role, I know) can replicate that. The new CEO with no football experience would not be likely to have the skills that Jackson had. The moment he spoke to the press, we all knew he was a hard man who would sort the place out. And we were right. Then the Board (?Roffey as Pres?) didn't appoint Mahoney as his successor (whom Jackson strong endorsed). We won a flag on the back of the changes that Jackson/Roos put in place, and been losing momentum ever since.
