Fair to say Bevo has had the last laugh but next weeks presser will be interesting. Journos may be to scared to ask a question.

    No he didn't or shouldn't.

He's as culpable as Morris in that he initiated a chain of events that put the Fox reporter into the public domain likely against her wishes and is now a troll target. The morons that leaked the audio also are in that group.

Bevo, Morris and the leakers are all disgraceful.

Dogs will never be my second team till Beveridge is Gawn.

Saw a comment from his Mum when drafted. What are some of his attributes, Mum said Loyalty. He's a 200 gamer

Ability under pressure for someone so young is amazing.

The long goal in the GF with 4 Dogs running at him.

The long kick to Brown following ANB's kick inot space, summing up what Brwon was calling for then doing it.

Match winning actions (some of the many by the team)

Bowey's the same, just has different coloured hair and plays in defence.

That comment was weird. When he alluded to us being a team of individual performers compared to Richmond who are all about system I immediately thought about every interview last year where each player deflected questions about themselves to praise others and highlight the team and the system we play or as we call it the Melbourne way. He genuinely just pulled that comment out of his [censored]. Not to mention, system shone through with our team still putting the choke on without any backline.

I  was shocked from that comment by a journo I respect.  Its as if he had nothing to say so lets run this "cocky"  observation out.

Was he living under a rock and missed all the quotes about selflessness in 2020/2021?

And all the evidence too (Trac hidng his Norm Smith being the classic example)

    Oh well.

The Dees right now are great, the ones to beat so move on to the garbage reporting and we'll let others have their time in the sun till september.

Just expected more from Niall. To her credit Caro didn't buy in to the comment.

  4. maybe isr beveridge sucking the oxygen out of the post game air, but I haven't seen the allusion to ' the Dees being a bit cocky ' as was floated by Jake Niall.

After Wednesday its just simply how good are the Dees with a seccond string of defenders. All class on the way the club carried of the flag raising and susbsequent performance.

Plenty of new/existing muppets about now that the story-starved media can fixate on for the next few weeks.

Round 1 signifies very little except renewed hope.

Tiges looked lethargic, except when  Prestia and Reiwoldt were up and about. I picked them for top 4, and still believe they will make it. Hardwick is a VERY good coach. Cotchin does look gone, Martin will take 4-6 to be back to his best, Grimes playing under pain and duress, Vlaustin out etc...

Carlton looked good in terms of pressure and fightback, winning lots of clearances and contested possession, but their backline is going to be hammered by strong scoring sides like Dees, Lions, Dogs, Port, Geelong. They played well, but no way am I gushing over them.

False sense of security.  Jobe Watson noted in the 7 coverage at 3/4 time that given the banged up Tigers midfield, Blues should run over them. They did,  despite Tiges going ok for 3 1/4's.

A class midfield won't let this happen, i.e Dees, Lions, Cats.  Plus no way do the Blues have a premeirship standard defence.

I think Bowza has the foot skills to become the key play maker while Salo is away. He is not as good 1-1 or overhead but Bowza's class can make the difference

Yes, and has equally good decision making ability. JT rated this part of his game when drafted.

Wow 10 pages of indignation on someone who has nothing to do with our club. Must be what happens to clubs who win constantly, nothing else to talk about.

Our premiership defeneders were sitting in the stands - mostly-  and we turn the game  around by 8 goals, thanks to a good team/system effort and everyone standing up,  and the incoming players aquittingthemselves .

Of course there's nothing to [censored] about so our interest wanders elsewhere to Bevo's train wreck.

But the rest of the comp will be still be saying - forget Bevo et al,  what can we do about the  Dees for sure.

So now we find out the real Tom. Not much sympathy now. Remember Tom, things recorded can be found. Always thought he was a bit swifty.

Surely this is a case of :

    1.   Bevo's orderered to apologise by Dogs to avoid or mitigate against a libel suit by Morris/Fox

    2.  Bevo sympathisers turning to attack as the best means of defence - hence the leaked audio of Morris. Ezquisite timing. Well done lads (as Goody would say)

    3.  The internet never forgets.

SCore:  1 all draw.  Game over for both IMO.

Now wih Bont injured and acknowledged clear superiority of Dees over Dogs - with a 1 dimensional forward struture Dees exposed again for all to see - is 2022 now over for them?

To site Che guevara as an inspiration as an adult human being is a bit embarrassing surely. It’s a 16 year olds version of a hero. You quickly learn more about him and realise he was a psychotic monster and move on with your life dont you. Says plenty about his mental capacity. Between last night and his moustache he is looking desperate. The bulldogs have really shot yo the ladder of unlikeables in the last year or two.

If Bevo was as well-read as the commentary says (which I don't buy) he should know the truism......

"...never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel..." (attributed to many, including Mark Twain), and in this case news Corp.

But well done to the likes of Whately for calling out this bullying of a journo.

He seemed off even from the start complaining about the footy blocking the Bulldogs sponsors. Umm dude there's a massive backdrop with all your sponsors on there the footy isn't blocking them at all. Bet their glad he made sure they'll be seen during the re-runs of that clip all week 🤣

Spot on. A very bad look given Macca's helps pay the bills and pays for that ball to be on the  desk, and Bevo's sponsors are all on the backdrop. Bevo should know that.

Personally, I think Bevo saw his team kick 8 straight - and STILL lose. WTF he's thinking and the club hierarchy could well be asking Luke for an explanation - I know I would be.

What next  could be a sliding doors moment for the dog's season.  I see it being up to Bont now , as a class act, to drag his club forward.  If Bevo doesn't apologise today, he must be seriously questioned on his decision making.

Much talk and had wringing about our defence. I would not be surprised if Tmac get a run down back and Smith up forward if it’s not working. Still our best defenders May, Lever and Salem are all still there.

Too early to tell yet but I rate Bowey too to join that esteemed group and i have great confidence in him for tonight.. Especially as an elite ball user and decision maker.

We'll be fine with May directing traffic but sure there'll be a  few nervous defensive moments.

Yeah he was rambling on about how he wont tell his players to bash up ours but it they wanted to its up to them....what the hell concentrate on playing footy would be the general advice!

In contrast, Clayton and Josh Dunkley together on the news last night handled the issue professionally and with humour.  Non story and well spoken Clarry. Dunkley too.  Take a look Bevo.

Agree about Harmes. I think he is best in the forward half. They have Treloar and Weightman as HFF and they are both too quick. It is Hunts best possie so play him there. Possibly have Viney ( at first ) in the middle with Sparrow down forward and Harmes on bench.

Absolutely need Hunt on the ground now.

I suspect Tomlinson is out because they don't think his knee is ready for a full on 120 minutes of football.  As it is, he has made an amazing comeback from an ACL in 8 months whereas it is usually 10-12 months.

Edit: @Roost it farhas correctly posted it is 10 months since he did his ACL.

Suspect they don't want to take any chances with it.

Thanks for that. Makes sense now thinking about a 26 week season

Three defenders out is not ideal. We saw vs Carlton what the impact is of an unsettled backline, particularly when compared to last year's stable back seven.

You would expect Tomlinson, Smith and Hunt to be the replacements for Petty, Hibberd and Rivers; all three selections make sense. I am not a fan of Smith and Hunt being in the same backline though, adds too much unpredictability. At least they all got a run last week so they're not coming in from the cold.

I want Hunt over Smith.  Especially seeing Jayden and Langers on the side same and carving up the Doggies on that wing with overlap running they seemed to do a lot last year.

    Jordan in for mine also.

Hibberd's calf not too bad apparently, confirmed will miss, but not too far off.

Also interesting we did the captain's run at Port Melbourne.

A well thought out move.  Keeps players fresh avoiding long drive to Casey day befroe the game. (Langdon's not a big fan of the Fitzroy to Cranbourne trip)

    Easier media acces.

so that's 3 of our premiership back 6 missing in petty, rivers, and now hibberd

it is amazing that a premiership team has never played together again across the course of the history of the vfl / afl competition

And being  nerd I looked at the last 50 years of VFL/AFL and the most common by a long way of changes from the Flag team to the Round 1 team the next year is 3.

So we've now got our 3 identified.   I was rapt Hibberd was in the team once May went down in the PF.  Huge fan.

This time hoping May/Lever and the rest stand up for the full game.

When friends and acquaintances have spoken to me about the Premiership and I tell them I just really want to be there to see one they say we're a good team and will win a few and be up there for a long time. My mind always seems to wander back to the Bombers of 2000. After the disappointment of 1999 they only dropped 1 game for the season and people thought that would kick off a dynasty. They've barely won a final since then. In fact today marks day 6,400 since they won a final.

My MFCSS has warped into an inadequacy that we won't be able to back it up and perform on the big stage.

Thanks for your great work on this site, but Gee I think you need a good lie down before tomorrow night just to help you cope with the certain drama of the evening, and the next 26 weeks.

It was a Jake Niall statement based on practically nothing. Poor form for a journo I regard. Having said that he tips us to go back to back. And if we don't get another flag we'll be seen as underachievers. (like the Bombers in 2000 IMO)

Who would have thought the Dees being in this conversation a few years ago.

Caro on the other hand was excellent in her views on the GF replay and the Dees as a team. Said nothing was going to stop the Dees in the GF and the Dogs even now are a long way behind MFC. She admitted the Tiges got cocky after 2017, and what's wrong with that anyway?

I do agree that Max's momentum was a key factor rather than Daniel slinging him. I don't Boo but do love the theatre of it. On Wednesday night it will be as predictable as the sun coming up on Thursday morning.

Its been a thing since they invented Punch and Judy in the 1600's.

Can’t agree with this. The reason he didn’t win back to back premierships has exactly for the reason you spelled out in your last sentence. In other words, they weren’t a particularly great team, there were teams that were better equipped that year – e.g. Sydney – and he coached them to win the GF despite that. He didn’t have the fire power to go back to back.

Agree with this Of.  and as for 2021, they didn't have a Premiership-standard defence and they still don't in 2022.

Unlike Dees, Cats(with Stewart), Tigers with their system and personnel and Lions led by a fit Harris Andrews.

Last time a losing GF team played in the GF next year was 10 years ago.

I heard Gawn himself refer to it as a "Captains Dive."

Caleb Daniel will still cop it on Wednesday night from Dees fans, as he should.

The wannabe standover pose he did deserves a Boo, and was the only dark side of a game played in great spirit by both sides.

    Pendlebury - are you serious?

    Good thoughts Jontee.

I think your'e on to something re: Max and if true that's Ok,  but Pendelbury is laughable.

Naughton's underwhelming GF performance soundly beaten by My questions King's 'Insights".  So thus they are predictions which is what the game is al about anyway.  He does love salem so credit there that he's consistent in his selection for that position and recognises him in his team.  Last year he felt Salem was the key to the Dees and oppos needed a plan for him.

But great article for clickbait and King to remain relevant. I can just hear him quoting Champion data as justification.

The real indictment might’ve been at the start of the last quarter. If they change the tempo of the game and get 2 of the first 3 goals it’s a 3 goal ballgame with half a quarter left. You’ve got a shot.

Bont tried his heart out but he had many passengers.  This was clear to me as soon as Brown marked the ball from Tom Sparrows brilliant kick.  That was set up by great involvement from Salem, Trac, jackson and ANB.  Bont was a solo act.

  25. Heads up on the club website are 2 outstanding videos released today.

First is Kate Roffey's speech last night at the AFL Launch where she accepted on behalf of the club the Flag. 6 minutes without notes hitting every key message. Brilliant

Bettter is a 16 minute summary video of the GF, including player insights/ineterviews I hadn't seen but importantly the bench discussion between coach and skipper on keeping Jackson in the ruck,  and Goodwins 3/4 time speech (or an important piece of it). Not to be missed.
