  1. Brisbane, based on 2021 Finals only.

Lions were most affected by key players injuries when they played the Dees and can be better (and assuming Daniher does something....  anything) and Dees seemed to have to work harder to get on top.

Whereas I think the Cats and Dogs were near full strength (except for Tom Stewart) and were comprehensively outplayed.

Cats made no major list changes, no ruckmen and same senior coach  - thus they are on a  repeat cycle for 2022.  Dogs scarring is unknown but are beatable again and haven't improved defence.

Thus Lions are my big threat. Good defence and attack and well-coached.

Tiges are too good to miss the 8 again but a few ageing stars now. And Dees have the Dusty secret weapon (Hibbered theory)

There is no doubt from his response that they know who leaked the documents. Now we just need someone to leak that name 😉

At the Coterie season launch last Friday night Mike Sheehan interviewed Goodwin.

Right up front Mike addressed the media issue and leaks etc and how Goodwin and club were handling perosnally over the last few weeks. Goodwin said "...We all know where the leak came from..."  and I've move on type of response after that quote, the journalist in question didn't even call me for a quote/comment. etc.

He seems to have had great support and Roffey in her speech had a quiet level of fury and contempt at the articles and intent. She can be on my side anytime in a fight.

Lots of people in the room were nodding, so maybe most insiders know and lets get o with 2022.

maybe I was the only one in the room that didn't know.

Underselling Tomo I reckon. There were stages early last year people had started talking about the possibility he would be AA.

yes he is undersold, esp.in comparison with Smith. Tommo is more tructworthy than Smith re; footy nous.  Doesn't fly against team mates, better disposal.  Seems for intuitive as a player.

Must come in for Petty. Smith scares me in defence.

Expecting a massive game from Oliver and Petracca. They were both ordinary last night and looked like they were playing bruise free footy. Not surprised given it is a pre-season match and not concerned.

What I did like is Gawn got the players together as they were walking off, no doubt to let everyone know that's not good enough. He was the only player that looked like he gave a sheet.

I reckon your'e right on this, esp given the Kangas game a few days earlier.  The team moved straight into gear in the Kangas game without skipping a beat (albeit against poorer opposition than the Blues)  and maybe thought all good, still got it etc.

And surely thery're only human and were to some degree thinking about the opening round, flag raising, blockbuster etc.

The Blues game still proved to them, despite giving away 6 goals and losing by 4 points , they still had the ability to come from a long way back.

Nothing to see here hopefully, except for a few issues with Casey candidates.

Like a lot of premiership sides, I think we will start the season slowly and I wouldn't be surprised if we are 2-2 after 4 games before we settle into the season and get our match fitness up.  We had a very short preseason.  On a positive note, we have virtually no injuries and not much off season surgeries so we should get into our groove before long

I wondered about this.  It was a warm humid night yet I saw the Dees running well right to the end.  Or am I missing something?

Only saw the last 20 minutes though.

Very fumbly, missed tackles, really poor kicking skills, very greasy night.

Carlton's smalls and mids looked OK but we never put any real tackling pressure on - maybe deliberate only being a preseason game.

Tracc, Clarry and Viney all tried the extra bit too often and got tackled easily. Habits from the past.

Brown, Jackson and later Weid were horrendous in the air.

    Everything looked slow, weak.

Only lost by 5 points, felt like 6 goals.

None of the Casey boys took their chance.

If there was ever an opportuniy last night was it for some of them.

Last week's annihilation maye told us there on ut won't be as easy again against real talent.

IMO Defensive systems work to suit the talent, and those on was on show last night faltered amongst others, so need the flag players mostly back. If a "system" works all the time, then everyone would be doing it.  Its the talent stupid.

They still now never turn it up. 8 goals down and could have won. Good outcome form the game for mindset.

    Doggies will notice this.

Backline is a hot mess. No surprise.

I see this as a really useful hitout for selectors  and 2nd string defence to see who puts their hand up for limited opportunities in 2022 in the dees defence.

Apart from that just get the cue in the rack for key players early as possible.

    An you numbers given?

    No, just the %'s.

Peter Lawrence's result was well behind successful candidates, but at 29% should give the Board something to think about that a not insubstantial number of votes went to a new and 'independent' person.

An effective Board will hear this message. Its also a good sign the members are engaged (those who voted anyway)

Can I add that at least we had an election and not some back room process as occurs usually at the Pies under McGuire.

My observation simply piggybacked Lucifers comment about (why) attendance at B&F and not AGM.

I would have thought that after a flag and an incredible amount of goodwill, an open AGM would have been appropriate.  Surely nothing to be afraid of. The existing President and Board should be out there and proud.

Kate Roffey stated early in the meeting that it wasn't in-person due to MCC/MCG protocols.  Just because cricket was held there maybe there are other issue not resolved in time to allow an open AGM.

    Anyhow that was the comment.

Considering the amount of discussion on Demonland a few weeks ago about the voting process and the pros/cons of various candidates I thought there might be something here. Would be interested to know how Peter Lawrence went.

All 3 current Directors were returned overwhelmingly with 85%  plus of votes,  Peter Lawrence came 4th with 29%.

    Who said I’m unhappy?

Obviously though, the answer to my question is - yes, we are doing enough for most.

Time will tell on this thread.

So why did you start this time-wasting thread?

Thrown some provocative statements out there, not even a general clue to what the issues are to which you allude, despite many queries on here from posters for you to do so.

No specifics, just innuendo   ..... finsihing up with ' time will tell..'

    Sheeeesh.

Collingwood in 1991, Essendon in 1994, Adelaide in 1999 and Brisbane in 2005 come to minds as premiers that somehow missed the following finals series before the Dogs.

    Richmond also in 2021.

Thanks BBP. Just shows I live in the ever-distant past.

Lions in 2005 were the 2004 runners up to Power.

Pies missed by 1/2 a game in 1991 ( to the Dees no less)

    But Hawks in 79, 2009

So in the last 50 years, 5 Premiers have not made follwoing year finals by at least a whole game.

Interestingly most/all were coached to the premiership by top notch coaches, with 4 of the 5 in the past 30 years. Recent history that can't be ignored, or just mitigating circumstances in each case.?

I can tell you right now it looks like we are sh*tting the bed behind the scenes.
Now is when the work needs to be done.

What on earth does this post even mean???

The evidence shows the club has absolutely monetarised the premiership short term turning a 1.5M loss into an operating profit of around 2.0M.

We'll need to wait for more substantial long term impacts and actions. To suggest this now, with unattributed commentary and innuendo, because that's what this thread origin is all about, , is disrespectful IMO.

The AFL is littered with clubs that failed to capitalise on success so a real risk to be managed.  North in the 90's, Hawks in the 70's and 80's.

And as said in this thread, The Dogs and Beveridge in particular made it an art form. First Premier to miss finals since the Tiges in 1968 I think (but not certain)

Pert and Roffey and team are smart enough to learn from others failings in this regard.

I would be looking at a team on the way up if I were her.

I think the Cats will drop off.

The Bombers would probably be the one.

Carlton, dodgy board but should be moving the right way this year. If they don't then who knows what will happen.

Saints will be in for a rebuild and board spill if they fail this year, they've gone about it the wrong way again.

If she was up for a move interstate then a package deal with Clarko to the Suns might be interesting.

Freo would be a good one, Sydney...

You're right, there isn't a lot on offer.

Good summary above RJAY but also a Good call by Daisy if she goes to the Cats.

Stable club with great team leadership and culture.  Scott is one of the best coaches in the AFL and she'll learn a lot from him. He can't help their list management failures.

She can return back to the Dees then in a substantial role but having seen the other side of the fence. (Unlike say Nathan Buckley or James Hird. Look how well Yze has gone coming back to us after a sojurn at a strong well coached club)

But I'll miss her on Ch 7  Friday night commentary. Big loss for us viewers.

Good to see Stanley Alves back in the fold…

Stan attended the mfc coterie season launch on Friday night. He was interviewed as a past player and spoke movingly about the club and its past and how every past player just appreciates so much what the club as a whole has now achieved.  So proud he was.

Brian wilson echoed his comments also in a touching way. These guys,  like us, really care.

Kate Roffey' s address was top notch and powerful.

No way will there be a premiership hangover.

Agree on all of the above.

The other thing i'd add is we are a systems based team. And with a flag under our belt we have proof positive that the system works, so we have complete team buy in thta system (not that we didn't have it last season).

But also another year to cement that system, so it becomes completely automatic. Every player coming into the team understand the system and know what role thay have to play in it. I think that was a huge factor in the Tiger's run of success.

Also, other teams face a big problem against us, a problem that was evident last year - to what extent do they modify their own system when playing us to try and beat us?

That's a problem because system based football has proven to the most effective model in the last say decade (longer probably).

Sure every team will employ tactical tweaks to blunt opponents strengths and exploit weakness, including us. But if teams move too far away from their own system in their attempt to beat us, it is doomed to fail.

So i think the 'other teams will work us out' narrative is a furphy.

The only path to wining a premiership, and finding a way past the dees, is to develop a rock solid system that works - whatever that may be. And as dees fans know all too well developing and cementing an effective system takes years.

Which is why why i see the Bombers and Freo dong well this season. Both have been developing an effective system in the last 2-3 years, one modeled on the dees defensive structure. I think both will be really hard to score against this season and are on the right path to be top 4 teams in say 2023 or 2024.

In the dees team of the century painting it depicts norm smith giving a pre match address to the team.

On a blackboard are 3 points. One is "expect to win".

I assume this was his mantra. All of your comments above ring true  but i would add smiths point too.

This dees outfit always think they are never beaten till the end. E.g. round 23 last year.

This mindset can't be just created but must be learned via experience.

This imo will seperate our team from many challengers this season.

some cats players internally will be wondering what do we have to do to beat melbourne.  7 goals up at 1/2 time won't cut it now.

Tickets on sale tomorrow, though I’m still confused around process for members and can’t find specific info on any websites.

    - Do GA members need to ‘purchase’ a ticket?
    - Is there a limit to number of tickets per transaction? (Ie; 6 or 10)

    - Or can we just rock up, scan in and find a seat like the good old days?

If anyone has any answers I’d be eternally grateful, for a while!

Club members and Public release go on sale at Ticketek at 2.00pm tomorrow Tuesday 1st March.

Mcc and AFL members are on sale same day from 9.00am

There are limits on guest tcikets, obviously 1 ticket per member bar code.

The entire MCG will be fully ticketed. No Ticket, can't get in.  i.e no walk ups for this match as per MCC Ticketing info, even if not a sell out.

Of all the Carlton tragics in my life - and they are legion - friends with whom I usually go to Dees vs. Blues games, not one of them is going to Thursday’s match. Their excuses are many and varied, but all share a common theme: they’re flimsy af.

“It’s only a practice match, it’ll be boring”

Oh, as opposed to watching every single training session, which is riveting?

    “I hate Marvel”

Who doesn’t? Besides you never hesitate to go at any other time.

“It’s gonna be too hot” (this from a friend who, despite hating cricket, has on a couple of occasions come with me to an ODI purely to work on her tan!)

Then it occurred to me… what’s missing this year is that dread. This feeling of confidence (ie. justified confidence) is foreign. Usually with these friends it’s me who’s not keen to go to a match like this one (I’d never bail, though) and over the years, especially when Carlton were successful, my envy of them was almost palpable. Yeah nah, I could get used to this. 😁❤️💙 💪

You make a good pint WCW .

But if the Dees do to the Blues even closely what they did to the Roos last week, then that's two teams ( and their fans) that will be saying that 2022 will be another lost season without finals.  Maybe that's why your friends don't want to go - seeing that scenario live would be deflating for sure as it used to be for me in the old days.

Fair enough. It was always going to be hard for Eddie to admit that the Queens Birthday match this year would be Collingwood’s Grand Final.

    A great pick-up.

But to be fair I do appreciate that Eddie gave this game as a home game for a number of years to give us a leg up in the dark days.

But as a financial powerhouse now, its good to give back this year to the struggling Pies and give their players some 'finals-like' experience.

Naturally in the Call Daisy will be giving her insights on just what casued the Pies implosion on the day.
