  1. I don't see why he doesnt like the idea of being a utility. He can float forward and provide an option, play a kick behind the play or play through the midfield. Whilst he openly said he will thrive being able to play in a consistent position, he trained with the back group struggled to find the form from the previous season, played forward and had several solid games, played mid and was lost. i feel that he has the potential to be a good mid, but the reason he didnt succeed as a back will ultimately be why he may struggle in the midfield, he didnt demand the footy enough when we had it. Lynden Dunn is a perfect example, when we have the ball in our back half he demands it and thus he got the ball alot more than Jack out our backline. Nathan Jones does it through the midfield. If watts did this we would be a better team! I am a big believer that if Jack watts can get 20+ disposals, with 15 + being kicks we will go along way to winning games as he is a terrific user and decision maker
  2. is anyone surprised? As soon as we signed Vince, Michie and Tyson and the possibility of getting Cross, Magner and Taggert were sure to go.
  3. the fact that pick 2 would be used on an unproven kid is much the same and makes your point a little redundant. this trade is a big win for the MFC whether or not Tyson comes on to be a superstar at the very least he will be a good midfielder and 10-12 year player much like anyone we would have drafted
  4. This is a significant win for the MFC. Dom Tyson is a midfielder in the new mould with a bit of height on him, plays inside and disposes the ball a hell of a lot better than most of our list. Whilst Kelly is a very good pick 2, in a draft where midfield talent is pretty equal, pick 9 is a good acquisition. I feel that there is a vfl player that melbourne are interested in and that pick 50 is where we will be going with this, not sure but just the feeling i have
  5. -melbourne may not be as active as people think this year, why? because although Paul Roos has a proven track record of turning battlers into consistent role players, the fact of the matter is, most of the people who are available are shizen. -if we get Daniel Cross and that is all we get out of this trade period, i would not be entirely surprised -not many names have been thrown up that have made me think they are a necessity instead of using a draft pick. (apart from the rubbish ones, like shuey and rockliff) -on a serious note the only player i have heard who we have been offering for a trade is sam blease, while this may not be true i feel that it is not a completely ridiculous idea, i doubt he has much value -finally, i heard from a direct source that we are going to get (insert really good player) for (insert lowly draft pick/poor player)
  6. i do agree that midfielders develop quicker, but it is alot to do with the players around them too. he will be competitive but we need to be bringing in players who are able to take a load off the younger players, and i dont think he would be able to do that. We need players who will be able to come in and impact immediately as we already have the young players. Having said that, my main point is the fact that howe for adams is not a trade that we should be doing and although adams is going to be a good player, we would have 3-4 targets ahead of him at the moment
  7. alright, apologies, but i believe there is an inkling of hindsight bias, like with nearly all of our draft picks
  8. i feel like he would slot into a small forward role, due to his movements and his speed. i agree he played the third tall role, but positionally he is suited to the small forward role where he can just sit in the 50 and crumb, he just lacked defensive pressure.
  9. well i understand that the midfield is our problem, but if you are trading howe for a midfielder who is still only young and is going to be 4-5 years away from being at his peak then I doubt you want the problem addressed either. dustin martin is a much better player than adams, so if that is the question i would want him ahead of adams. i am not saying adams wouldnt be a handy player to take, i just doubt that trading jeremy howe is in the best interest of the football club, nor do i think that the problems with howe are as bad as you are suggesting and i also do feel that trading howe is a stupid idea, the whole point is adams is a player which is in the similar age group to our midfielders already, the area which we are lacking is 24-27ear old mids who are going to give 5-6 years at the club and help out the younger players develop. The clear solution is to bring in experienced midfielders players in the 24-27 bracket who will be able to provide 5-7 years and leadership throughout the midfield. although adams is going to be a good player, he will be another young talent and will not fix our midfield problem or our lack of leadership EDIT: im not even that much of a howe fan, it just seems like a stupid idea. nathan jones, james frawley also have trade currency lets trade one of them for taylor adams if they dont accept howe
  10. positionally though he played as a small forward, more of a crumber than a power forward.
  11. hindsight bias. having said that i saw rockliff play and thought "oh my" he would be an extremely good pick up, but if jurrah didnt go sour he would be the perfect small forward for our list. secondly, i also remember watching a vic metro match where a one armed addam maric kicked 4 goals in a best on performance and thought crap this bloke is going to be a star. recruiters stuff up, players stuff up and at the end of the day would have been nice to be able to take both :| *edit for censored
  12. although this is true, it is true with all, most likely howe was instructed to play the loose man and someone like terlich got sucked into the contest as he often does. im sure you saw him take countless intercept marks as well, and he often positioned himself behind the ball in order to do so. that being said, sometimes he is soft on the chase and is often found hanging off his opponent, but at other times he is very quick on the chase and often pressures to smother well also. Howe is a required player, he is the only player that gets our pictures in the paper for positive reasons and it might be a little bit over the top but partially why some people keep memberships or get them for that matter.Bloody ridiculous to suggest a trade, in fact it is down right stupid. Taylor adams will be a good player, but i think there are others i would be looking at first, players like dom tyson who would be easier to get across and have just as much potential, if we can come out of a trade period having secured cross, shaw and tyson i will be very very happy. plus maybe one more older mid
  13. *BUMP* Roos is now in charge, and cleared out a few assistant coaches. But on top of that i have heard on the grapevine that Jude is looking to move back to melbourne to bring his family up and he has had an offer from a VAFA club to possibly play there next year. If he is looking to move down this way, surely it wouldnt be surprising for roos to be looking at bringing him into a role at the club?
  14. if sylvia wants to sign with melbourne then i would be more than happy with that, but i doubt he does, and the currency on sylvia to a possible top 4 club would be significant. heath shaw is very nearly the best 1 vs 1 player in the comp and his disposal craps all over terlichs, even if he has a few melt downs a bit of passion in the mfc wont go astray.
  15. how i can see us getting him in a perfect world: Colin Sylvia informs melbourne he wants to leave the club, melbourne have a little chat with collingwood and offer the swap, collingwood dont realise that they can get sylvia for free as a free agent, and let us trade shaw for sylvia. otherwise although he would be the perfect player for our list i feel that we dont have the bait to get the job done, maybe blease?
  16. I still think it's funny, hindsight is a lovely thing with many things, and it's the same with our recruiting. But at the same time everyone said how well we did out of the drafts, because at the time they were the best junior players! There was no way anyone would have taken Martin over Scully or trengove on draft day, but on current form sure, having said that the reason how Martin was loyal and signed his lucrative contract at Richmond was people's reasoning and yes that is funny to me.
  17. It's so funny that everyone was saying we should have picked him up instead of Scully because he was clearly more loyal and was going to repay richmonds faith. Well he hasn't. Mind you he fits our bill, midfield, good kick, 10 years left in him. We have some money freed up and could offer Richmond a trade with Sylvia if they are really keen! That being said, he is selfish, money hungry and does not really hang out in the best circles, and I think this has something to do with him wanting to move!
  18. The fact tynan had too many games where he was almost unnoticeable at casey cost him. It could speak of the confidence the club had on signing Sylvia. Clisby will spend another year as rookie. 6 spots to fill, could depend on our trade period aswell. Nicho and jetta seem like players roos could use
  19. So did those cornea, ebert, hartlett and boak characters
  20. Also the players he had available to him in the free agency last year were not as good as the older ones that could be available this year!
  21. Wouldn't be bad, but the reason he left was due to him wanting to go home and live in Adelaide.
  22. i know its an ankle injury, and last i heard is he was looking at starting day 1 of pre season! but you never know what is actually true or not!
  23. yeh, but those are both might not have, but i feel Monfries was wanting to leave and it was a matter of who had the most to offer, and also i think not too many other clubs were keen. it is a matter of opinion, but i guess i feel that primus set the building blocks up for the club and started the rebuild, although no doubt hinkley is a good coach i think it says more about the state of the list and the depth the midfield of port was able to develop. Westhoff and Lobbe are two players who have really shone under hinkley but you can see this with lots of players!
  24. field of dreams? or was that if you build it he will come? something similar to that, bit out of my age group but i saw it on foxtel once haha
  25. I have a different take on the primus tenure, as I feel like he helped to draft and create the list and was not really allowed to take advantage of the hard work! I think if he was allowed a run this year results would have been similar to hinkleys
