toumpas showed a few really good things, but also if anyone expected him to come into a game and get 25 touches and lay 5 tackles they were thinking of the wrong player. did we have an outside game today, no, was he often in space, the next kick on, yes. he will be a jet, no knock on ollie wines though because he is a going to be a gun to, but let him play more than one game, more than one season, let him play 5 years-10 years then we can judge him
-
want to defend him cant defend any players after today go to casey tappy, play well, get recalled, and play hard for the ones... really was hoping to see him get a run through the midfield this year, would have liked to see Neeld chuck him in there when we were losing every centre clearance having rodan and byrnes in there, although he has no form to back it up, i just felt we needed a bigger body in there, someone to throw some weight around abit, someone to bump cornes and make him think about whether he wanted to spend the whole match tugging on jones jumper
-
it wouldnt have happened if bloody pederson kicked it correctly to clark and hit him up, he had his oppenent left for dead and anything that was remotely near him he would have marked and kicked the goal

Agreed, I have never left a game before the end of the match, and I still maintain that i wont, but I was close today. I am not disappointed by losses, but rather expected them this season, with the third youngest list and a midfield that is well off the pace of good afl quality, but the way in which we lost was disappointing. I am no afl player, but there are a few things on the footy field that you can control no matter how good you are as a player, you can go hard at the ball, put your head over the ball, talk, sheppard/bump/smother, tackle, chase, keep your head up and never give up. From the list there, not many did all of them, let alone one of them. Too many times melbourne players were standing still thinking the next person in the zone would be able to cut it off, or they were not willing to make the 100m hard run to get across and cover the next man on in the chain. I do not condone throwing punches on the footy field, but Nathan Jones was getting hammered left right and centre from Kane Cornes, who did not give him an inch, if i was Tapscott, Sylvia, Grimes, anyone really near him, I would have been coming of the lines and protecting him, at least once to let Kane Cornes know he couldnt do it all day. I just want some passion for one another, passion for the jumper, passion for the club, passion for the coaches and also passion for the supporters. I do not expect melbourne to win games, but i do expect melbourne to play with 100% intensity the whole time, playing for each other, playing for their own pride and playing for us.

I know lots of players are involved with charity's, but when it was really cool to see that James Frawley, Mark Neeld and Colin Sylvia had recently become ambassadors for Footys4all. A few of my close friends run the charity and it's a really good cause, like all charity's are haha! Neeldy and Sylvia among others will be heading down to the RCH to hand out some footys! http://www.footys4all.com.au/ And check out their fb page too

Mao Tse Tung around 80 years ago when introducing his game plan for a communist China said win over those who can be won over easily and work on those holding the middle ground. I think col is one in the middle ground and hopefully we can keep him! He is handy, good body and at the very least a usually competitive player! At the end of the day he could be what wins us a grand final. He won't be leaving for more money that's for sure as we will have a bit of quid freed up and could front end him a decent offer. However he did also say shoot those with an immunity to change which Neeldy did with Moloney, Martin, Morton, Gysberts so it could also be on the cards with col. Although from all reports his defensive side to his game and his team orientated play has improved. I'm hoping a big year for col and a big statement by signing on with the dees

Yeh my mids are not top quality, but i was trying to draft players who mainly kick and can hit the scoreboard, with the weighting of the categories, i tried a different approach to the draft as i felt that midfielders were not as important as a few good defenders and forwards. hopefully it works haha your fwds look very dangerous, and you took lake one round before i had him pencilled in, which was annoying haha! -

not too upset with my draft, have a few too many tip rats for my fancy, but i have a few dual position players which should help. took a bit of a gamble, went pretty hard for score and kicks, and then hopefully i can steal one of tackles or marks and that is the winning formula! although as my first few picks of the draft were done through my rankings, i tried to guess who people would take! was very annoyed once i got to my computer and 2-3 times i had a player locked in and then they got picked up! Lewis Jetta was the one that annoyed me the most :| haha M_M Lineup for 2013: BACKS: M. Golby A. Carrazzo (B,C) H. Shaw M. Hurley (B,F) L. McPharlin Centres: Josh Kennedy Matt Rosa Chris Masten Ryan Bastinac Daniel Kerr Nathan Foley Clinton Young Luke Parker Dale Thomas (C,F) Hayden Ballantyne (C, F) Forwards: Lance Franklin Stephen Milne Josh Hill Rucks: Josh Jenkins (R,F) Dan Currie Went heavy on the mids, hopefully the dual position players can mean i will be able to chop and change my side alot, very short in ruck stocks, but hopefully jenkins can play 20 odd games this year solidly and i wont have to worry about it! who ever i will be playing will definitely win the hit outs category thats for sure! -

Having buddy as a keeper was helpful, worked good considering the keeper rules changed mid year haha! I agree with you on the weighted pouts system, why should different categories be weighted higher than others, when it is more about how consistent your team, how can marks be more important than handballs and tackles aswell. Fair enough if it is something like 2 for everything and 1 for fd, % and hit outs but other than that I feel everything should be equally valued -
i think its more a statement of the depth of our list, we had/have a whole heap of average players that are able to slot into another team or warrant a spot on another teams list, does not mean they are a grade players, but rather they have the ability to play their roles in another side, just not what we needed at the time

the correcting of your english in the last line was too easy...

Lloyd is a [censored], hates melbourne and at the end of the day Chris Dawes was not recruited for this year but for 3-4 years down the track. Hopefully he can kick 30-40 goals for us this year like you said, but he will definitely make our forward line much stronger and less dependent on Mitch. Secondly i think dawes was playing more of the Mitch Clark/roughhead role in collingwood, playing that second ruck and forward role, so he will be playing more of a full forward position. thirdly, we were a pretty good side at converting our i50s to scores, mainly due to the low amount of i50s we had, but we were able to score of a very high percentage of i50s, hopefully this makes our fwd 50 much stronger, and leads to more scoring oppourtunities i50, on top of this i hope we can increase the number of i50s this year aswell

What do you call a spear without a head?

i think small forwards are the easiest players to recruit, as you can place undersized mids who need to work into their fitness in this position (blease), you can recruit them through the draft (saad, mileara) or you can play older midfielders through this role (davey) we worked hard on drafting the key blocks, and we have sorted out our backline, midfield and key position forwards, now all we need to recruit is a crumber at their feet. Dom barry may well fit into the role, byrnes and rodan will spend enough time through the midfield but can play the crumbing role. the fact is, the small forward will be the cream that can top the cake which is in all a pretty solid list that has been built, is our forward line our weakest area, no that would be our midfield and even our ruck stocks. we need one more jet midfielder who can top off our hard workers, sylvia was meant to be this player but hasnt grown into the position, hopefully toumpas and viney will. our forwardline is pretty strong and i would feel if we have a line up of Davey Dawes Blease Howe Clark Sylvia it is looking pretty sharp? -

No way sandilands is definitely the player you want to keep! Rockliff is no good -
I don't agree to a certain extent, our game style isn't as much short kicking and hand balling, rather than long and direct. But having said that we need to control the ball more from the outside rather than bombing it long for yardage effectively, so I guess I agree aswell haha

Can we please make it at 8:00? Seeing as its changed and now I won't be home til 8 on the 18th -
The bloke put in some good ks, would be interested to see the results of his GPS. He looks a likely type, hopefully he will love up to the hype he has around him after his solid hit out today!

Although Mckenzie screwed up a few disposals, his tackling was a real highlight! And his inside work is amazing! From my seat at etihad it looked like Nichlson had improved his kicking! It looked like hogan will be a star. Chris Dawes struggled to take a mark. Dean Kent should have played on straight away to get the 9pointer in the first game. Viney is a genuine goer, and that how quickly he bounced up after being shirt fronted by tuck (I think) was amazing. Real positives Watts run from the back line Our midfield work was much improved A fwd line with Clark, Dawes and hogan will be intimidating Tackling was good Negatives Pederson looked out of it Some real poor turn overs Frawley being killed

what odds did ya get for that? il double it for ya and you can chuck 50 this way?

the week long draft with 10 hours between picks could also be an option, if its hard to sure up a time! it stops people from missing the draft and having to rely on their pre draft determined picks
