The title of this thread should have been ‘ The 2026 Fix is in’.

I don’t think the public knows what it wants other than their clubs doing well and be entertained. Kneejerk Reaction is always the first horse out of the blocks when radical changes are made. The public bemoan lack of a more competitive season now complain the AFL engineering more competitive games. And what exactly do the public deep down want? Other than a more exciting games I doubt many can articulate their thoughts further than that.

Funny that I was at the 21 GF and stayed on and I can’t remember Heroes being played or anything else after the game. But by then I was emotionally floating off to another planet.

The reason Cripps was let off was something to do with being denied due process whatever that means. I am quite sure that charges can be worded to deliberately sabotage tribunal hearings by creating get out of gaol technicalities.

It’s effing sports entertainment and been so for a long time. No use moralising on a high horse. It’s WWE with an oval ball. Once all the froth and bellowing is over, the fans will love it because most are of simple tribal tastes. The AFL is giving fans more of what they want and that’s more contests and blood and guts.

On reflection I am now for the Wildcard round. The second half of the past season was mindlessly boring due to the lengthy conga line of dead end games. I look forward for 12/13th on the ladder in rounds 21/21 having a red hot go in an effort to move up to 10th and knocking off complacent sides which have there top four spots locked in already. Give it a few seasons it will be just normal business just like the current rubbery fixture we now have.

At our current state it is a benefit to us so that’s all I care. It’s not just a battle for 7th to 10th but also clubs below that who have incentive to fight out the season and have a sniff for a wildcard game.

Amazing that Scott Pendlebury who has played 425 career games has never played at Geelong and likely never will.

What I like about trade week is that we haven’t got a clue who we end up with before it starts or even half way through it aside from some targeted players. Always mysterious though not hard to suspect who we might lose.

We were second last and they were last on the ladder that year. We won both our games against them. I missed that one but was at the return game at MCG when we scored 27 goals. Battle of the Swiss Cheese defences. 38 goals combined scored in first game and 42 scored in second game.

Like Goodwin his Pythonesque constricting game plan was good for a few years and he was very unlucky to not win at least one of his first 2 GF’s with the Saints. But in his 3rd try, the passé defensive mindset and inability to score freely throughout the season much like Goodwin’s after 2021 left Freo firing blanks when the flag was there to be won in the 2013 GF against the Hawks. This one is a little obscure but here we have Collingwood legend and media star Lou Richards and US Senator Richard Lugar who was a well known politician and TV political pundit. The similarity in names is bizzare as well.

Looks like Demonstone definitely has a taste for history and the esoteric. Who would have thought George Burns and Gracie Allen would have been named dropped on Demonland.

Surprisingly Strauss and Maric have better kick averages than recently departed Charlie Spargo who arguably was our best ball disposer by foot though this year his efficiency dropped off markedly. If only we could unearth another Travis Johnstone.

Sharrod Wellingham in the Western Australian suggests that WC who have picks 1, 2 and 13 trade out their number 1 or 2 pick for 2 other first round picks so that they end up with 4 picks in the top 20. Holding 7 and 8 pick would be tempting for us to make this deal if we choose to play the numbers game to acquire a player we really want. To be fair a new player is going to say kind things about a club champion and leading diva in a club video. Are hardly going to complain if they felt ignored or wronged. Could easily be scripted as well.

In 2023 when both Petracca and Oliver were becoming worryingly sloppy with their disposal we lost 8 games including finals for a grand total of 69 points for all losses. Bad disposal from our two biggest ball winners played a big part in many losses.

I liked his hard at it style but we have reached our quota of over 30’s. At this stage I prefer we use the rest of our vacant list spots for younger players for balance purposes.
