  2. Love Petracca in centre squaer
  3. Well done Goodwin and co!
  4. 60 tackles already
  5. How good was THAT!
  6. Hunt has seriously lifted the side
  7. This is a real test for Goodwin. We need to play smarter in our defence and rejig the fwd entries. I hope he leaves Pedo up forward with Weid
  8. Our guys must know we are outnumbered in fwd 50 stop finessing and have a shot
  9. Well done skipper
  10. What just happened
  11. Why did Lewis not kick for goal - instead goes another high risk handball in our fwd 50 and we turn it over
  12. These 1 metre handballs are a real problem. Tyson serial offender.
  13. So after the flurry of excitement at the end of the season with Jack playing finals for Hawthorn, he gets delisted. Will another club pick him up?
  14. In the excitement of bringing Jordan Lewis aboard there is much commentary on his leadership and experience in winning 3 flags in a row 2013/15 - all absolutely correct and positive for the MFC. In addition to this, I think his 2008 experience will be invaluable. He was only 22 at the time, the same as Viney, Petracca et al now, and they came from the clouds to knock off the dominant teams and win a premiership. His locker room tales of 2008 will be inspirational.
  15. Another great thing about this trade is bringing inside understanding of the Hawthorn playing method and composure late in games.
  16. The B&F illustrated how far our club has come offfield in administration, sponsorship and fan support. It was not long ago that the MFC went from one off field crisis to the next - see this article from March 2012 http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/dark-days-turn-darker-for-bedevilled-demons-20120405-1wfml.html
  17. I think the Carlton game shows we would benefit from a player like NDS, someone experienced who doesn't get rattled when things are going badly, and is vocally positive as well as being able to steady the ship with clean possession,
  18. Jack Fitzpatrick played his first game for Hawthorn today after being delisted by the demons at the end of 2015. He kicked the matchwinning last goal of the game that secured Hawthorn a top 4 spot. A fantastic roving off his own ruck work to run forward and let fly from 65 metres. In the post match interview he said it was only his 3rd win of his career since his debut in 2011. Now is well placed to feature in September. Good luck to Jack.
  19. The concern with this match is between the ears. When we have nothing to lose (eg Hawthorn) we come out with intensity and confidence. When we do have something to lose - when the players know that if we lose there will be hell to pay (eg Essendon, Carlton) they play differently - hesitant, indecisive, 2nd to ball. We could tell in first 5 minutes the mindset wasn;t right. The sad thing is nobody (coaches, player leaders) could turn it back on.
  20. Guys is this a crazy idea: - we need to maximise the chance of us winning the Geelong game in 2 weeks - last year we played them with Gawn and Spencer. Both played well but in hindsight it became the Gawn breakout game, and they reverted to 1 ruck - 2 rucks would allow us to leave Watts forward - Spencer is in great form for Casey - a rested Max could create even more havoc for opposition - if we are to do it we should try it this week - Spencer for Pedo?
  21. 5 things that indicated this was going to be a different demons performance: 1. First year player Hunt grabs ball sprints forward and goes for home kicking the first goal 2. First year player Oliver gets cleaned up by Rioli who immediately gets a free kick - other players get around Oliver as if to say we are not going take it today 3. First game player Weideman runs to good position calls for ball and assertively flies for mark 4. First year player Petracca is pressuring Hawks defence when errant mark spills and he kicks an easy goal 5. Senior players get around Brayshaw after turnover resulting in Gunston goal - just like good teams do all of these things inspired the other teammates - and indicated ' we are not scared of Hawthorn any more' - as illustrated by the quote from Weideman after the game " we believed we could do it" you beauty.
  22. Today's game makes it seem quite surreal that in 2010 we beat the swans by 73 points.
  23. Knocking out Hawthorn in 1990 should get more credit. They had won the previous 2 years. As I recall we played them in the last round of H & A as well - beat them twice in 2 weeks. That should have been our year - as noted earlier the drawn wc / coll game threw the finals series out and didnt help our momentum.
  24. I think if we were to win the game we needed to be up at 3/4 time with scoreboard pressure and hang on. Eg Their last goal in time on 3rd quarter was very disappointing. We need to be able to close them down when we have the lead.
  25. I think this is the week to give Gawn a rest. We need him firing for Hawthorn / Collingwood / Sydney. The flight and game in Central Australia heat will take it out of him. Meanwhile Spencer is well placed to step in and can handle the heat as he grew up in Townsville.
