  1. I like hogan upfield
  2. I went to this game a couple of years ago. In the 2nd half it gets very humid and greasy - will Adelaide's dominance be affected?
  3. The real question is what does this mean for next week?
  4. I think this was the week to rest Gawn - not only do the conditions not suit him but he will be exhausted for the Port game PS Vince reported...
  5. Apparently he hasn't responded. Will be interesting to see if Hird declines
  6. I listened to the Goodwin press conference and his statement about Trengove makes me really annoyed "Jack is getting close and just needs to keep doing what he's doing in the VFL" This doesn't make sense i) Casey have a bye this weekend ii) in a couple of weeks Tyson, Viney and Jones will be back. Clearly the time to test him out at AFL level is now - when there are spots available and the team needs an experienced midfielder. Finally you have to ask why does Trengove have to keep performing well over repeated weeks at VFL level to be considered - when this didn't apply to Mitch White, Joel Smith and others?
  7. Is this the week to give Gawn a rest? He is clearly still getting his touch back after a long layoff and struggling to run out the games. Surely we should be erring on the side of caution. We need him firing for the Port Adelaide game in 2 weeks and the subsequent run to the finals. Can't see much good will come of putting his 208cm frame in a plane seat to Darwin and then play an exhausting game in tropical humidity. We could give Spencer a run, who will handle the humidity as he grew up in Townsville.
  8. Hopefully there is some plan like this. He is perceived on demonland as old, yet is younger than Melksham, who seems to be backed in for selection. If they are being patient he still has plenty of time, and plenty of upside.
  9. We have had many selections this year of players with modest / brief form for Casey - JKH, Wagner, T Smith, White, Kent, Stretch, J Smith We got beaten in the clearances on the weekend and need some more midfield grunt even if Tyson returns There is a 25 year old midfielder who is in the best at Casey every week and racked up 30+ possessions again on the weekend. He also happens to be an exemplar of a resilient culture which appears to be a priority at the moment. Let's find out once and for all if he can contribute at AFL level. It's time. Let's find out. Give Trengove a go.
  10. I think the puzzling thing with Trengove is not only whether his form at Casey is adequate, but the players that have been preferred to him. Clearly in retrospect elevating White last week didn't work, and this week we appear to be rushing back Joel Smith, a guy who has played only one quarter of AFL followed by a 3 month layoff, and only one returning game at Casey. I think Goodwin has done a great job taking over the reins this year. The only area I have a bit of a query is the selection of older players - the preference of Weideman and Smith to Pedersen earlier in the year was hard to understand - if we had Pedersen in some of those close losses may have gone our way. All in all re Trengove I don't think any of us know how he would go back at AFL level. That's why it is worth an experiment. Perhaps he will be a pleasant surprise like Pedersen was.
  11. I wonder if the selectors are a bit chastened after the White selection last week? In comparison selecting Trengove is much lower risk.
  12. I like the idea of resting players against GWS.
  13. I went to the game and agree with this comment. He was doing team things, directing traffic but couldn't impact much at half back the way the game was played. You would think they would have thrown him into the middle to lead from the contest, but they didn't.
  14. I was at the game and once it headed South I spent a lot of time watching our running off the ball. Mac tried his guts out and Jetta, Omac and Frost also were very good under relentless pressure. My main concern is the physical condition of half the team. Petracca, Hunt, Lewis, Pedo, Vince, Tyson, Harmes all looked to be very sore if not carrying niggles. We need to be very careful with these guys if not even rest a few to make sure we have them up and about for the business end of the season.
  15. Should they give TMac a rest this week, freshen him up after a heavy workload?
  16. Like for like, why wouldn't we go Trengove for Jones? this is the perfect opportunity, and why they kept him on list. JKH and Stretch are outside players.
  17. I am pleased they are not playing Gawn, and I hope they leave him out next week too. Our priority must be having him cherry ripe for September, and not risk his return until he is 100%. The 2nd order issue is how we cover the ruck in gawn's absence. I presume next week at Subiaco spencer will get a game. It is bad luck for him that the pedo experiment (and roving the opposing rucks taps) has gone so well.
  18. Before the game this morning I watched the replay of last years QB match. It was a fantastic performance, and the guys were clearly excited to play well and win on a big stage. One thing I found interesting was Trengove. I know Demonlanders say he's not fast enough etc etc, but his decision making is excellent and he is a beautiful kick who doesn't turn it over. These are 2 things we could do with.
  19. I sat behind the interchange bench today. After Watts kicked that great goal time on in last qtr, he ran to the bench. Mission waved him away and indicated to go to the backline. 2 minutes later he made a crucial save touching the ball on the line. In a 4 point victory he literally saved us in the dying minutes - twice.
  20. What a momentous win! A couple of thoughts: - Hunt's injury was the turning point. It was such a courageous act that it steeled the resolve of the team - Pedo is more than a backup player - Petracca is ready for the centre bounces - We often play well without Hogan - We now know we can lay 90 tackles - we need to address the favourites v underdogs performance differential There is something there Congratiulations to Goodwin, a great validation for him tonight PS Also Bernie Vince played a great game on Sloane and the boys wanted to give him a good 200th. He has been one of our best mature age recruits ever.

  22. 90 tackles - only 6th time in history for mfc
  23. Did Bernie just give Lewis a free kick?
  24. 90 tackles ...
