After living in Highbury New Park, just around the corner from their ground for almost a year in the mid 70's, I learned to hate Arsenal supporters and by association, the club. Their supporters (at that time at least) were the Collingwood supporters of London.

I agree with rjay... this really appears to be a case of damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Everyone criticises Sheehan for his comments and the fact he offers no solutions, then when he does outline what he sees as being wrong with the club and where changes need to be made, he is lambasted because he hasn't come up with any wildly original or new theories. The other thing that annoys me is the fact that because he is a supposed Dees supporter, this somehow gives this club immunity against criticism from him; he becomes yet another "class traitor" like Judd and Scully etc Seriously, we have some of the most well balanced supporters in the AFL (a chip on each shoulder).

Why is it a good idea? What do we know about his coaching abilities? Everyone touted Voss as the next super coach because of his great form as a player... remind me, how are the Lions traveling? What is the aim that we are leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of?

Yeah, just like Voss to the Lions.

You had better prepare yourself for "substance abuse" after a post like that. I actually find it funny like yourself, that people can demand Royal be given the axe with no real substance behind their demands, yet they are happy to have Ling, a completely untried and unknown quantity, walk into the mids coaching position...can just see it in one or two seasons time if that eventuated; the same usual suspects would be demanding Ling's head on a platter and still not grasping the idea that it might, just might, be something to do with the playing group.

Tell that to Rivers who regularly puts his body on the line. It is possible to argue that Neitz only became the forward he was because of his "apprenticeship" in the back line where he could develop some genuine hardness... hopefully, that is their thinking with Watts.

Have to say I'm rather surprised that a few are leaving Jones out or placing him low on their lists... a 29 possession game including 4 tackles, 6 marks, and again very very effective... I only recall seeing one ineffective disposal (errant kick). (and yes, I know it may appear from my avatar that I harbor a "manlove" for the Jones boy, but in actual fact, it's just a photo I took during training in Shanghai that happens to be my favourite football related shot) :-)

Lighten up Mono... it was just a tongue in cheek dig. But I don't accept the "fitter, stronger" excuse... every team has a pre-season and ours was directed more at improving fitness, strength and endurance. We are still quite slow and I'm really not sure if that is just because they really are slow or if they are just being lazy. Blease has been a breath of fresh air.

Maybe winning one quarter of football per game is their latest KPI?

Neeld will know exactly what he wants in the way of players come the end of this season (in fact, he probably already has a fair idea)... so it is going to be an interesting trade period for the Dees and I am sure he will be given free rein, so I expect to see the Dees taking a very aggressive stance in trying to close at least a couple of big deals.

I chose Rioli because when he is on song his skills are mercurial to say the least. Others I would add are Eddie Betts who is the consummate entertainer and Robert Murphy who makes everything look so effortless.

You're right of course Nasher, but if I was Bennell or Morton or MacDonald or Fitzpatrick or Moloney or Sylvia or etc etc, and read these forums, I wouldn't come away feeling too good having had more than just my playing ability questioned. Constructive criticism has a place, no doubt about that...but unfortunately, their are a number of posters who go almost to the opposite extreme with their criticisms which can become almost personal.

Bennell doesn't pick himself to play in these games...I really get sick of the player bashing that never lets up on here. Talk about ferrel behavior...there are a number here who could walk straight into cheerleader positions at Essendon, the way they love to eat their own. Bennell is playing whether we like it of not, and that is NOT his fault.

I know I'm dreaming, but what this team needs to do is suddenly have the plan click and come home with a wet sail in the second half of the season... then we would have no trouble bringing in the right players come the trade period.
