  1. According to MFC book 'Heroes' Frank Davis was no. 40 in 1964 and was then no. 6 from 1965 to the end of his career in 1973. Cheers.
  2. Progress scores to date: Current leaders are 9 (9 votes), 12 (7 votes), 2 (5 votes), 11 (4 votes), 16 (2 votes). Nos 35, 13, 14 and 45 have all polled one vote. Keep your votes flowing in.
  3. I have just added Allen to the No 13 list. Starting to look impressive too!
  4. Yes #9 is right up there. My personal order is: 12,11,9,35,and 2. #16 certainly is up there too.
  5. Peter Townsend was meant to be John Townsend. Getting mixed up with Royalty! Has been rectified.
  6. Well done. I'll put a 31 list now.
  7. Sorry Gippy. I did omit to include Laurie Fowler in the #9 list. Have done so now.
  8. Unfortunately, I had trouble coming up with any other worthwhile no 31 to go along with the great Ronald Dale. Can you come up with any?
  9. Which numbers worn by MFC players have COLLECTIVELY been the most productive in terms of skill and dedication to the club in the past 70 plus years? Choose your top 5 or more. Poor old number 31, despite featuring the great Ron Barassi, does not feature well in this poll. The last #31 doesn't bear thinking about! !. Gary Baker, Denis Cordner, Dick Fenton-Smith 2. Number 12 IMO would take some beating but I'm interested in what YOU think.
  10. Ditto, ditto, ditto!!!! Let him stew in his own juice.
  11. It's your choice but I'm surprised you don't have Moloney somewhere in your list. Do you have a problem with him as a potential leader?
  12. C Moloney VC Trengove LG Green, Jones, Frawley and Watts
  13. Sorry mate, but your dad is a hard marker! Barassi was a champion in all areas of the game. Skill, Guts, Determination, Courage, Team spirit, Leader, Match Winner. He had it all. Best I've ever seen and I didn't miss a match during his playing days. It's a real shame we don't have much footage available showing what a great he was.
  14. Very true. I had a serious knee problem that finished my footy career. I took up track and field competing in 200m,400m and 800m events. Knee presented no problem because there was no sudden, twisting movements required.
  15. Great first post! Welcome aboard the Demon ship 'krypton 101'
  16. Aaron Davey returning to his early career form, Jack Watts having a standout year and Jamie Bennell playing consistent, classy footy all year. I will watch Mitch Clark with great interest.
  17. Great to see Lenny Dockett's face again. A wonderful all-round sportsman.
  18. A great article on Bobby. A real down to earth, modest champion. Interesting that his full name was Robert Davis McKenzie when his main rival as an elite half forward flanker was none other than Geelong champion, Bob Davis.
  19. Tunbridge and Mckenzie on opposite flanks and both on their preferred side. (Tunbridge was a left footer). Mouth watering indeed.
  20. Don't believe the story, here I am! No, seriously, very sad news. Bobby was my childhood hero and one of most exciting players I have seen. His pace, elusiveness and goal kicking ability had to be seen to believed. Even the great Ron Barassi marvelled at Bobby's deeds. He was a bit of a larrikin but that added to his personality. A wonderful article is on the MFC website. Thanks Bobby, you were a real champion. Only wish most of the posters here could have seen you play. RIP mate.
  21. Welcome aboard 'Very old demon'. Don't let your wife stop you from reading Demonland will you. Its a good site, far superior to Demonology. Most of the posters are normal, Demon loving human beings.
  22. Yes, thanks again Bush demon. Like 'Macca' I have never seen footage of Crompton's goal. i couldn't get tickets to the GF and was at home listening on the radio. I was up on a ladder painting the roof gutters for the nail biting finish. It's a wonder I didn't come a cropper!
  23. Norm's success was not instant. In his first year(1952) we finished 6th and in his second year we slipped to 11th or second last. So, it took time for his strict methods to bear fruit. Mind you, by 1954 he had a magnificent playing list of new players to work with. In 1953 and '54 we recruited Frank Adams,Ron Barassi,Geoff Case,Peter Marquis,Ken Melville, Don Williams, Brian Dixon, Bob Johnson,Clyde Laidlaw, Laurie Mithen, and Ian Ridley. What an outstanding bunch to collect in just two seasons.
  24. Thanks for that Bush Demon. A nice Christmas pressie. Oh, for the good old days! I was there behind the goals in the great Southern stand at the Punt Road end. Must admit that late, lucky goal to the Bombers at the end of the third quarter made me start to worry a little. I was annoyed too that the siren couldn't have gone a second or two earlier. As it turned out we steamrolled them in the last quarter to record a well deserved premiership.
