  1. There's good coverage in today's HUN with CLINT BIZZELL highlighted. The Biz will be given his chance to make it back to the big time after an injury riddled 2006 and Michael Newton, Simon Buckley and rookie Shane Neaves "are among younger players to be blooded in the pre-season with Mark Jamar and Paul Johnson to share the ruck duties." And Neale Daniher will give Nathan Jones "a bit more responsibility early in the year" by playing him on "some big name players."

  3. Belatedly, my thoughts are with Trish and the Broadbridge family.
  4. Good to see he's made up with Daniel Motlop who was in the bridal party. Wonder if future teammate Daniel Wells went along?
  5. The way Byron Pickett (fairly) terrorized some of his opponents - especially in the firs half of the season before he injured his hamstring. After so many years of seeing our players as the targets of aggression it was good to see someone in the red and blue giving back the medicine. Worked a treat against Hawthorn which has used thuggish tactics since the year dot. And didn't they squeal?
  6. There's no comparison between Kelly & Brock. I think you'll find that Brock is a lot faster, stronger and more skilled than Kelly. There's no comparison.
  7. As if the AFL doesn't have enough problems with TV rights, Carlton and the Kangaroos, Caro drops this BOMBSHELL - "West Coast continues to deny it has a drug problem in its senior list but every other club - each of which would love the Eagles' list - tells you it has, and the hard evidence continues to mount. We are not talking about marijuana." I hope for her sake that she can substantiate this allegation.
  8. Agreed. Bate has something about him that makes him out of the ordinary. At 190cm plus and with the ability to burst through packs and a good long left foot kick, he's going to cause quite a stir in the years to come.
  9. One Aboriginal at the club who started like a house on fire was Les Bamblett who played in the 1980's. I remember him in an Under 19's final and he was sensational. He followed that up with some good early games before losing form and being traded to the Bulldogs.
  10. Unheard of in the good old days but Melbourne Assistant Coach Paul Williams has just been made a life member of Collingwood. Played his best footy with the Swans IMO.
  11. Coming back from shoulder and groin problems, forgotten Moloney wants grand old flag.
  12. Andrew Obst was one of my favourites in the early 90's. This bloke's aparently not related but might be an interesting to consider for the draft - Obst hoping it's all in a name by Matt Burgan - Sportal for afl.com.au October 26 2005 http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=draft&spg...rticleid=235302 The Obst name is synonymous with South Australian football. Trevor Obst was a Magarey Medallist with the Port Adelaide Magpies, while Andrew Obst crossed the border to play 149 AFL matches for Melbourne during the 1990s. So how does up-and-coming Central District defender Alan Obst fit into the famous footballing family? Well, despite coming from South Australia and being a highly promising draft prospect, he doesn't. "As far as I'm aware, there is actually no relation whatsoever," Obst told afl.com.au at the recent NAB AFL Draft Camp in Canberra. "But I'll use it, if it's going to help me get drafted," he added with a laugh. The 18-year-old represented South Australia during this year's NAB AFL under 18 championships, before attending this year's camp. And when he was at the camp he couldn't believe he was given the opportunity to show his wares. "I'm normally a bit of a pessimist. If you told me I was going to be at draft camp a few years ago, I'd probably tell you where to go," Obst said. "Personally, I thought my year could have been better. You can always improve as a footballer, but the championships were a real good week away and I can't believe I'm here (at the draft camp) - it's just really good." Obst said he spoke to several clubs at the camp and added that the process of being interviewed by a range of coaches and recruiting managers was fascinating. "Every coach is different and the recruiting managers, but there is no way around it," Obst said. "You can only hope for the best and they do a lot of interviews Australia-wide and you don't want to go too far ahead of yourself, so it's a pretty interesting time. "It'd be pretty good to stay in South Australia, but the dream is to play AFL, so I think it'd be great."
