  1. This from the AFL website:- MELBOURNE TBC RICHMOND Nil.
  2. The injury list is shrinking at last: MELBOURNE Daniel Bell (shoulder) 3 weeks Max Gawn (knee) indefinite Neville Jetta (groin) 1-2 weeks Liam Jurrah (shoulder) 12 weeks John Meesen (ankle) indefinite Cale Morton (knee) 5 weeks Jared Rivers (knee) test Colin Sylvia (jaw) test Luke Tapscott (hip) indefinite Austin Wonaeamirri (hamstring) 2 weeks ADELAIDE Simon Goodwin (corked knee) test Graham Johncock (thumb) 1-2 weeks Brodie Martin (knee) indefinite Brad Moran (knee) indefinite Andy Otten (knee) season James Sellar (hamstring) 2-3 weeks Sam Shaw (shin) 3-4 weeks Rory Sloane (ankle) 5-6 weeks Scott Stevens (concussion) test Brad Symes (knee) indefinite
  3. Update: Matthew Bate (quad) - strained quad on returning to training after a foot injury Sam Blease (leg) - increasing workload after surgery last year Cameron Bruce (hamstring) - minor hamstring strain Colin Garland (foot) - rejoined training last week Max Gawn (knee) - increasing workload after surgery last year Paul Johnson (foot) - about to start running after foot surgery John Meesen (foot) - increasing workload after surgery last year Luke Tapscott (family bereavement) - available Jack Watts (quad) - hopes to return soon Austin Wonaeamirri (hamstring) - increasing workload after surgery last year There's also a concern about Aaron Davey who played the first half only and appeared to be limping after the game.
  4. The middle page spread of the Sunday Age sports section contains an injury list of sorts for each of the clubs. I'm certain its not comprehensive but perhaps we can use it as a basis to determine the true health of our list. I've got them down in alphabetical order:- Matthew Bate (foot) - Sam Blease (leg) - Colin Garland (foot) - Paul Johnson (foot) - John Meesen (foot) - Austin Wonaeamirri (hamstring) - Those are the players listed in the article as being on modified programmes but just off the top of my head I would add that Mark Jamar and newcomer Max Gawn (recovering from ACL op) should also be on the list although it has been mentioned that Jamar is due to resume full training this week. Not 100% sure about this but I think his problem was also the foot. We seem to have struck the jackpot with foot issues. Only two other AFL clubs have players listed with foot injuries and they have one case each: Fremantle (Ryan Crowley) and North Melbourne (Ben Cunnington). Co-incidence or a real cause for concern?
  5. ... and they're still not revealing the jumper numbers for any of the new players!

  7. According to Stephen Reilly in today's Australian: Not even the courtesy of a meeting and this from someone who was only good enough for the VFL when we last met St. Kilda in Round 22.
  8. Never had high hopes for him in the first place but given he is the most highly credentialled player apparently available ATM it was always going to be worth the club having a crack at him although he has never been a cut and dried candidate because of question marks about his fitness. The last thing we want to introduce into a young emerging side is a highly paid, unfit coodabeen who can't perform. The club went down the Kelvin Templeton path 25 years ago and I hope we've learned from the experience.
  9. Alex Keath is a 17-year-old Melbourne Grammar student who is being keenly sought by both Cricket Victoria and the Gold Coast Football Club. At the moment, the promising 196cm all rounder Keath, who was a key player in MGS's cricket and football premierships in 2008, is a Demon. He is playing in the Melbourne Cricket Club firsts in Premier Cricket today. Based on all reports he would make a great AFL player as well but it's probably unlikely that he will be able to emulate past stars such as Max Walker, Graeme Watson and 1964 grand final hero Neil Crompton by being a Demon in both cricket and football.
  10. According to the Herald Sun this morning, Daniel Bradshaw will be making up his mind today as to which AFL club he wants to go to in one of the forthcoming drafts - Carlton or Sydney. However, neither side has the first choice in the drafts so how can he announce the club without offending against AFL draft rules? Srely this is draft tampering?
  11. Well may you laugh but you're contradicting yourself. No club has been able to announce the #1 pick in the past but that's changed now. Not only that but GC17 have the the opportunity to train up their player while we can't do the same with Scully. Tell me we wouldn't gain from giving him training and guidance over those five weeks. In any event, it's clearly discriminatory to give GC17 the right to do this while other clubs can't!
  12. ... but that isn't the point. The point is that we're not allowed to announce our number 1 or 2 (despite them being obvious choices) 5 weeks out from draft night which GC17 is allowed to announce who it's picking and have them train with the club more than a year in advance. That's giving one club a substantial advantage over another.
