What will happen to Demonland if we actually start to win
P-man replied to Bitter but optimistic's topic in Melbourne Demons
It gets a bit much, but I totally understand why it happens. We're absolutely starved of any form of success, so even meer wins results in over the top excitement. That said, any type of carry on after beating one of the newcomers to the competition is just plain idiotic. As to the concept of honourable losses, I totally get where OD and WYL are coming from. The club must develop a stronger mentality geared towards winning being the only acceptable outcome. However, you can't say there aren't degrees of consolation to be taken from losses. A 2 point loss against Hawthorn versus a 100 point belting at the hands of say, Richmond. I know which one I'd prefer. Unfortunately, realistically, I think we're still at a stage in our development where we will be looking at positives to be taken from certain matches, moreso than the result itself. Matching it with the top four seems a fair way off still. I'd love to be proven wrong. -

In saying that OD, I can't recall the last loss that could feasibly be described as "honourable". Maybe against the Dogs? -
I also couldn't give a rat's what others think of us, ESPECIALLY Bombers fans, a large number of whom are a perfect blend of arrogance and ignorance. That said, you can bet your bottom dollar that this sort of argument will return in full swing once we start winning on a more consistent basis. In fact due to the high profile nature of this investigation, pretty much any future success will be tainted in the minds of opposition supporters of the Essendon ilk. Just something we have to expect and respond to accordingly as supporters..

Mate, Ii's Bomberblitz. Their forum is one huge casserole of inanity. I only visit there when I need a good chuckle.

If it's a Nickelback song, membership renewal will be seriously considered* *not a serious statement, but dear god, anything but that.

This is probably the most positive post I've seen from you ADC. Shocking shame about LJ. Mixed emotions every time I pull my "Air Jurrah" shirt out of the drawer by mistake. Could've been a once in a generation player, and in some respects even in his short career, he was. Can't see him coming back.

I'm not sure if Viney leading any of these stats in his first year would be cause for celebration or concern.

I don't view this as suggestions for an anthem. The anthem is the club song, that isn't changing.

I don't think they're attempting to replicate the EPL pre-match anthems, so it's not rolling it out in a similar style. The crowd won't be singing along to Muse or Iron Maiden..
-
Not sure about this. Liverpool supporters have been singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" since the 60's, well before the 1985 disaster. Primarily it is sung to unify them as a supporter group. Likewise, I don't know the origins of the Hammers' "Blowing Bubbles" anthem, but I'd be surprised if it represents any higher purpose other than getting them pumped up for the game.. I did like the story about Michael Jackson going to a Hammers match and leaving before the first whistle had blown. He thought "Blowing Bubbles" was the crowd having a dig at his chimp.

I understand the frustration at attempts to jazz up the atmosphere. God help me if they ever do what he Suns have done with music after every goal.. But really, we're talking about a few minutes as they run down the race here. With the right song it could really work, though pretty much anything will trump the velvet bugler. It's a fine line between defending the game's traditions, and basic wowserism.

The irony. You make a dismissive jibe at ACDC being bogan, and then suggest one of the few Muse songs that bogans know and like, since Muse went all commercial radio-friendly. Bogans might like ACDC. That doesn't automatically make them a [censored] band.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt and put his stumbling over "Trengrove" down to a slip of the tongue. He wouldn't be the first (incidentally, do a google search on "Jack Trengrove" and marvel at the number of news articles that get his name wrong, quite often in the heading itself). He did however mention this Chris Daw bloke a couple of times. -
Not a fan of "Highway to Hell" purely for the references to "going dowwwwwn". I think we've had enough of going down. Time to go up.

100x this It's an ideal song in every sense. I'm rolling thunder, pouring rain I'm coming on like a hurricane My lightning's flashing across the sky You're only young but you're gonna die I won't take no prisoners won't spare no lives Nobody's putting up a fight I got my bell I'm gonna take you to hell I'm gonna get ya, satan get ya Hells bells Hells bells, you got me ringing Hells bells, my temperature's high Hells bells

Someone needs to tell Craigy that we don't have a player on our list named Chris Daw. -
I wouldn't mind someone explaining to me how Carlton have the 2nd best forwardline in the competition. edit: I see maurie shared this view. lol

The thing is though stu, some people get excited about unknown quantities like Taggert and Tynan. It's not completely baseless as we've seen glimpses of Tynan that show he could become a very capable footballer. But to a large extent it's unknown what they coud be, or what 2013 could have in store for them. That's exciting.

Firstly, your list isn't complete. Choosing one of Dawes, Garland or Joel Mac only brings the number to 7. Secondly, you rubbish the suggestion of Watts, but suggest Joel Macdonald? That wouldn't be a "surprise inclusion", that would be one for the funny farm. Joel Mac is a depth player, at best. Watts is one of the most talented players we have and represents the future of the club.

It's scary (for opposition) to think how good he will be once he has some quality around him, like we are hopefully now accumulating. Will bust games open. I'll give another shout out to Rory mu****in' Taggert. And the Toump. And Nong Barry. Ah, half the damn list I'm excited about. It's off-season! Yeehaw!

Careful I suggested that in another thread on the topic and had NoMoreMrNiceGuy or whatever the hell his name was come after me with pitchfork in hand. Personally I think it would, yes. But leadership titles need to be earned in a variety of ways and whether he's shown enough on the track during the pre-season, compared to others, is a big IF. Same could be said for Col.
