There is still a hell of alot of improvement to go in our "engine room". I accept that clearances and forward entries improved as the year went on, but I think it could be observed that the opposition weren't taking us all that seriously in the latter stages of the season. The big boys remain a long way in the distance, and whether we have the personnel to get us to where they are remains to be seen. As much as I love Jonesy and accept that he has earned the title of A Grader, I don't know if he will ever reach that level of the man around whom you build a midfield like a Cotchin or a Watson. There's alot of hope and assumptions of greatness being pinned on Viney and Wines, but both are yet to play a senior game. Trenners' 2012 was like a car crash in super slow motion. Grimes tries his guts out but his disposal remains dubious. Bottom line is that there is everything still to prove. Talk of just needing to patch together the forwardline (as we have done) and everything will be hunky dory is getting a bit ahead of ourselves. I'd like to see how the midfield performs in 2013 before ticking it off as some appear to be doing, all before Viney has even played or Wines/Pick 4 has been selected.

Rounds possibly. A very faint possibly. Overall I would say pass.

POLL: Do you want Mark Neeld to remain coach in 2013?
P-man replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Classic Jose. I love that you are so off-put by those whose opinion differs from yours, you deem it worthy to put them on an ignore list. I also love that you feel it is worth advertising the fact you have an ignore list. -
Appreciate the effort put into this. Cheers TD.

Anyone who lets their support of the MFC be dictated by the opinions or actions of anyone on Demonland is a complete dill. Harden up princess.

I think Hulkamania started this poll. (j/k Hulk) -
Williams came as a bit of a surprise, Petterd just a disappointment. The rest, so long and good luck.

Anyone who runs with the stereotype of Melbourne supporters being well educated should take a look at our Facebook page.

I have doubts, but being a nervous wreck comes with the territory of supporting this club (and long drawn out trade periods don't help Vlad). We need to back him in this year. He's turned the place on its head, but few would say it wasn't needed.

How do you figure we got Hogan for Pick 13? Does that mean we got Dawes and Barry for Pick 3? Wow, we really did pay overs!

You're alot chirpier than I expected. Your man crush is gonesky. Suddenly he's "no longer fitting where we're going or not performing".

"Cale, stop crying or I'll be forced to slap you.."

That's hilarious. King is such a numpty. If you're going to mouth off to the extent he did (which was frankly disgusting), at least have the balls to raise your concerns to the man's face.

"Pedo" is out. Not because of its double meaning, but because that is what Norf fans called him. He needs to be cleansed with a new nickname. -

If he can win some hitouts and kick straight, he can wear a purple wig and a pink tutu for all I care. -
I still can't quite fathom how/why we needed to add a sweetener to this deal and downgrade our draft picks even further. North fans would be very very happy I'd imagine.
-
I'm not jumping off the walls like some but wow, slight overreaction C&B.
-
But we already had picks 3 & 4, and we were never going to have our hand forced on Viney, so we're resting our hat on securing 3 top 5 picks (Viney debatable)? Is that such an extraordinary achievement from where we were in the draft order? I'm not questioning the choices, but I think this is blowing the trumpet a little hard.
-
I can see the logic in it, as Hogan will take a while to develop so essentially Pederson adds to the current backup stocks for Clark and Dawes, of which the other options are sketchy at best. Having said that, we've been bent over at the trade table with this one. Regardless of whether Gys bought into Neeld's plan, he is worth more than a VFL swingman and a trade down in picks.

Fair bit of truth to this.

Throwaway line mate. Singling out posters to imply their opinion is worth less than yours is low. We've been a shitheap for the better part of a decade and everyone speculates on why that is, how we can fix it, and whether the course we are taking is the right one. No-one has been proven correct on anything in this regard, because we are still a shitheap. -

Comments like this are just unnecessary. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and there will be plenty of supporters unhappy with one or both of these trades. No-one is an authority on whether it's the right decision at this point. -

Is it Pedo or Pedro? I like Pedo. -
Last spilt milk post, but in terms of pure class, Gys is ahead of the majority of those names.
