haha, OD you say this every time someone mentions the NT hangover. Yes we would've still been terrible. The point is we were noticably more terrible and lethargic. The North game was over from the beginning, and it is reasonable to connect it, at least in part, with the NT conditions from the week prior. It forms part of a pattern. Totally agree with the above. This season will be a bit like the Bulldogs last year. It will become more about percentage. The thrashings have to end and I expect by and large, they will. From there we can focus on wins. Roos has addressed the midfield with what look to be very prudent choices, but realistically it is two senior players and a handful of youngsters with very few games between them. They have a new gameplan to be learned and executed. Expectations are in check for next year.

Whenever the issue of T Mac's kicking comes up, I think of that training footage when he was strapped up with the camera. He was hitting every single player on the chest over various distances. Granted there may have been some favourable editing, and training isn't the same as match day, but there's enough there to work upon. One on one he is very good, albeit prone to the odd brain fade. I'm pretty confident he will be a long term fixture of the back 6.

Still a couple of holes to fill in terms of outside run and class. Vince will certainly help. Watts may be transformed. Toumpas is still another year away you would suspect. Blease...who knows. A bit of the unknown.

True re Craig. Perhaps by that stage Mags had gotten the shits entirely and attitude did come into play. We are speculating. Granted he is no superstar, but when played in his natural position he was serviceable.

I'd also like too see him promoted. Shamefully overlooked for selection last year, just another in a string of questionable decisions. He will certainly be on the outer now with the new signings but I like him and hope he gets a few more chances in 2014 under Roos.

Cross won't be warming the bench. The reason he was let go by the Dogs was purely because they have amassed a small army of inside mids, and he had slipped in the pecking order in a club that is rebuilding. But it's no shame being behind Griffen and Liberatore. He still was averaging 22 touches and will easily be one of our best midfielders from the get go. What he has lost in pace he more than makes up for in his desire to win the hard ball. Off field, his elite training standards are well known. Talking about the influence of Rodan or Byrnes off field was paying lip service in comparison to what Cross will bring to the club. He will be invaluable in that regard. Considering we're getting him for nothing, to question this decision is either extreme pessimism or ignorance. Cross is an excellent get.

I know he's prone to the odd silly statement but he has to be deadset joking if he is equating trading this year to last year. Welcome Crossy you ripper!

That's all fair enough, but we're talking about a midfield that is pure and utter shizen. To say he was arguably the second best, in the broader picture, isn't saying alot. I don't want to be overly critical of him because I have nothing but admiration for what he did in his first year, and I'll be happy to be mistaken if he becomes a longer term best 22, but realistically he's a slow decision maker with pretty average skills. If he improves again next year, great, but at the level he's at right now, the likes of Tyson, Toumpas, Pick 9 and Michie should be going past him pretty quickly.

Note that the question is around what position he is best suited to next season and beyond, not what his position should be by default or due to a lack of options.
